PERFORMANCE UPGRADES Have you ever been riding with a group and had a hard time keeping up? Do you want to feel the thrill of being thrown back into your seat as you roll on the throttle? Then look no further. The experts here at Doc’s Harley-Davidson are the people you need to see!

There are a vast amount of performance upgrades available to suit each of your needs. If you’re just looking to let your bike breathe a bit more and change the sound, you’re going to want to do a Stage I upgrade. This consists of a high-flow air cleaner, an exhaust system and a tuner. A Stage I upgrade is the basis for all other stage upgrades so it’s a great place to start! Next you have a Stage II upgrade. This upgrade involves changing your cams and push rods in addition to the Stage I upgrade. After the Stage II upgrade we start getting into some serious engine work with the Stage III upgrade. With this upgrade you’re getting everything in a Stage II plus big-bore cylinders and pistons. Lastly, there is the Stage IV. This monster engine build includes a Stage III plus a new, bigger throttle body and cylinder heads. Let’s elaborate on some of the options you’re going to have with each of these Stages. Stage I offers a vast array of options to suit your needs. Each exhaust system available to you is going to offer a different tone and decibel level. One great example would be the Vance & Hines Big Shots Staggered exhaust. Available in chrome, this exhaust system has a classic look with the 2-into-2 styling, but still provides you with 2-into1 performance due to the power chamber crossover technology. This exhaust system is loud with a nice, deep rumble tone. There is also a quiet baffle option available to you if you decide it’s a little too loud for your taste. If you’re not in the market for a full exhaust system, there are also tons of slip-on mufflers available to you as well. You’re also going to need an air cleaner and tuner to finish off your Stage I upgrade. Harley-Davidson has many air cleaners available to you with various styles and the quality that you expect from a Harley-Davidson part. Do you like the stock look on your bike? No problem. There are options for almost all Harley-Davidson that change out your stock air filter and backing plate to replace it with a high-flow air cleaner that still allows you to reuse your stock air cleaner cover.

Once you get into Stage II upgrades you’re really going to start feeling the performance increase out of your engine. There are different cam options for you to choose from that are going to be determined by the kind of performance that you’re looking to achieve. Do you want to feel more power and torque in the lower to mid RPM range? That’s where quite a lot of us spend our time riding in. A torque cam would be perfect for those looking for a performance increase in this area. A torque cam is going to give you the perfect amount of power you can use on demand in the lower to mid RPM range to get around slow moving vehicles without have to downshift. Maybe you’re a rider who likes to get to their red line as quickly as possible. If that’s the case a power cam would be for you. You’re going to feel a substantial performance increase from the mid to upper RPM range. Moving up to a Stage III upgrade is going to provide riders with a performance increase throughout the entire RPM range, with the mid-toupper RPM range being where they will feel it the most. Milwaukee-Eight engine equipped HarleyDavidson’s will feel up to a 35% increase in this range. Talk about power! Stage III upgrades are also going to increase your engine displacement. For example, if we were to install a Stage III kit on a 107CI engine, the displacement would increase to a 114CI engine. This increase in engine displacement allows the engine to swallow more air and fuel into a more volatile mixture and when combines, generates more power when ignited. The ultimate upgrade in engine performance is the Stage IV. With up to a 40% increase in the higher RPM range on a Milwaukee-Eight engine, there is no question that your bike is going to run like never before. The stage IV upgrade is the highest-level performance upgrade offered by Harley-Davidson to provide maximum increase in displacement, compression and flow. This upgrade is perfect for the rider who is looking for stump pulling torque throughout the RPM range and who also craves plenty of arm-pulling acceleration when they hit the throttle. HEALTH BENEFITS RELATE For those of you who do know Bob and I personally, you know how health conscience we are. I tend to be uber focused and highly driven when it comes to my health; what I eat, drink and my exercise regiman. When I saw this article, I thought to myself, this is so true and right up my alley. Now this does not negate the responsiblty of a healthy life style, but it should does make for an interesting fact and makes me want to do a HAPPY DANCE! ~Cindy Blanton Chances are you’ve heard how dangerous it is to ride a motorcycle. How you are just risking your life being on your bike and you must have a death wish. For the most part, motorcycle riding is safe. It requires you to be extra attentive and aware of your surroundings. You have to think more, but you are still able to relax and enjoy the ride. Whether you’re going to the grocery store two blocks away or driving through open mountains in the fall, any rider will tell you, there’s nothing like the rumble of the bike beneath you and the feeling of being “one” or “whole” with your bike. It is a lifestyle and a passion, and it also has numerous health benefits you may not have known you’ve been gaining. You can soak in these benefits regardless if you prefer to street ride or off-road ride. The benefits come from both types of riding. Mental Outlook When people think of health, they often see health in strict terms of the physical body and tend to overlook mental health. Motorcycle riding is beneficial for physical as well as mental and emotional health. There is an array of benefits and they are not limited to these listed. Riding off-road or on streets is a great way to enjoy physical exercise and clear your head for a while. But the big thing is, it helps your brain. It improves your mood. Plain and simple. Riding makes you happy and boosts endorphins. Riding increases energy levels and your mental outlook. This does wonders with regards to helping you increase your happiness and mental health, which in turn, increases your life span. Who doesn’t want to enjoy living a little longer so you can keep riding? Core Strength and Stability Just riding and enjoying a scenic view or riding to the grocery store down the street can improve Page 20

ED TO MOTORCYCLE RIDING core strength. Think about it. You have to work out your core just to keep yourself upright on a bike. Factor in some wind, and you are definitely working yourself out a lot more. Maintaining the correct posture while riding also helps to keep your body in shape and can improve muscle tone because it’s a lowimpact exercise. Neck Strength Riding can also improve your neck strength. For some, this may not seem like a big deal, but for others with back problems or neck problems, it’s almost like a therapy to the neck and back. Make sure your bike is fitted and adjusted to fit you correctly. Craning or straining your neck will do the opposite and you don’t want to do any damage to your body. Stronger Knees and Thighs It can also help strengthen your knees and thighs. Individuals with knee or thigh issues will find riding a motorcycle is a kind of physical therapy. It requires you use your knees and thighs, but without straining them too much. Over time, you’ll build muscle while eliminating any pains. Calorie Burning Have you ever thought you’re getting your daily exercise just from your motorcycle seat? Riding takes effort, especially compared to driving in a car. Just being a passenger on a motorcycle you can burn 50 calories, but as a passenger in a car? It increases your insulin sensitivity too. This helps your metabolism, which will help you burn calories and store less fat. Riding is fun. It’s an experience. You can enjoy these health benefits without even trying. You can’t complain about that. Now go out and ride!

Where There’s RUMBLE How’s it going Full Throttle readers, Zach White here to give you the latest and greatest info from St. Charles Harley-Davidson. We have went from winter to a short spring to now the summer all in one month. Let the riding season be here in full force and the wind blowing in our hair. The sound of a ripping motorcycle passing your house or as you’re in your car wishing that was you on the bike at that moment. We have a busy month for you all this month with events almost weekly. Can’t wait to see you all at the shop and hear about how your riding season is going. We will be starting our month off with our monthly bike night on June 7, from 6pm-9pm. If mother nature doesn’t work on our side it will be rescheduled to the following Thursday. As always we will have our calendar girl contest with the next months winners and a chance to be at the grand finally and be on the cover. We are also bringing in some new entertainment “All Out Dyno Drags”! You and your buddy can see who has the true bragging rights as you go side by side and the tree turns green. Full throttle ahead as you really get the motor rumbling. We will also have different vendors set up for everyone’s likings. With ice cold beverages for sale and Free food its bound to be a good time. Also just a reminder anyone driving there vehicles this year we will have a free shuttle from the EPC parking lot just a block away and also another at Shamrocks so you will end at the after party. The next big event we will be hosting is the KSHE Rock and Roll Bike show on Saturday June 16. If you want to show off your pride and joy and have a chance to win bragging rights ride it over and enter in the show. This year it will be a peoples choice open entry and prizes for the top 10 motorcycles. We will have lots of vendors here as well for you to check out all day. When you get done looking at all the bikes in the show and checking out the vendors grab some food and a drink and relax in the Lawn while rocking out to the band playing some of you favorite rock and roll. To end the month of June is one of my favorite events of the year the Drag Specialties “Big Rig” Truck. That’s right it’s back and will be on display Saturday June 23. If you haven’t made it to any big rally’s or out to our dealership to see it make sure you do. This truck is packed with all the major aftermarket company’s newest, latest and greatest product for you to touch and feel. As well as some of the direct reps to answer all your questions first hand. That day we will also be having some local business here to show off what they do best Page 32

It’s all in the name! Our organization has been around for 30 years since Tom Hartbauer thought that the time was right for someone to “Help Our Own”. Through the years we have grown from H.O.G. Chapters supporting and helping fund us, to our Incorporation in 1997 and becoming a 501 (C) (3) Not-For-Profit recognized by the Federal Gov’t. in 2003. We are proud that our Officers, Board and all our Representatives are bikers and UNPAID VOLUNTEERS who do this out of the love of motorcycles, those who ride and the lifestyle, no matter what you ride, what you wear or who you are. If you encounter a True Hardship and are a Biker living within 100 miles of the Gateway Arch, we want to assist you financially with a “Hand Up…Not a Hand Out” when you need it most. Our application process is pretty straightforward, but some requirements are in place. We offer only financial assistance. To date we have disbursed over $300,000.00 to more than 600 bikers, and is some instances their family members. Hardships are not only due to motorcycle related injuries, but illnesses and loss due to floods, fires and other accidents. Our organization is officially named “The Hartbauer/ McBride Memorial Foundation, Incorporated”. You tell them I’ve got a GUY with a truck so I don’t need it delivered. So the bad thing about owning a truck is you always have plenty of friends who don’t think about your time but lets not go there because I don’t own a truck either, sooo… But when it comes to BETTY, don’t feel bad when you go to borrow her and the owner throws you the keys to his 2018 F-450 L 6.7 Power Stroke Turbo Diesel Platinum Pick-Up because you are Guaranteed not to get the keys to this BETTY. BETTY is a 1953 F100 and she is a real beauty, and talk about being the most popular girl around town. She is all over FaceBook and social media with so many articles and photos of her. If you don’t get your fill here, it is easy to find more. To see her live, check out Jay Leno’s Garage. Jay has plenty of nice things to say about her too. With the old Beater trucks you would expect a rough and bouncing ride but you won’t find that here, not with the TCI Chassis and the RideTech shocks. When it comes to stopping you would normally just pray but with the Wilwood 6 piston and 4 piston disc it has plenty of stopping power. When it comes to power, every one says “More Power” but with a truck like this, thats not really what you need. You want a good power band and torque and with a FORD RACING Boss 302, you get more than you ask for. The 302 is a powerful engine; just think about the Mustang BOSS Page 44

302 and all of your questions about power will be answered. Connect it to a Tremec TKO 500 5-speed transmission and you just added a lot of fun to the equation. That rumble you hear is created by the CCS Stainless exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers, always a mellow sound. The look and final stance is aided by the Hot Rods by Boyd “Columbus” wheels finished with Bronze center and a polished lip and kidney bean accents. 20X8.5 fronts & 20X12 rear covered with Pirelli P-Zero tires. When it comes to comfort and accessorizing, what better way then to start with the interior since you will be spending most of your time inside more than anywhere else while you are driving around. You have the Classic Instruments gauges to keep an eye on things and the Glide Engineering bench seat covered with the Relicate “Amber Glow” leather. To help make your worries go away the sound of the Kicker Audio system should easily take care of that. With a truck this nice you know there has to be a list of cool things done prior to paint and there is a long list, but to make you look harder I’ll just give you a few of my favorites. For instance. the shaved front bumper with air inlets, the tucked & narrowed running boards, the shaved drip rails, cowl vent and louvers, the custom roll pan with the center exhaust and the frenched tail lights. After all of the body mods you have a lot of body work and sanding but that is what it takes to make the paint nice and smooth. When it was finally ready to pull the trigger the only paint they were going to apply was the BASF Glasurit paint and clear. For the actual color you can ask but don’t be offended if they don’t tell you since it was a Special Blend for the owner. I know I normally tell you who did what it took to build something this beautiful throughout my article but, I wanted to save that to the end. This was a group effort of the guys all at Classic Car Studios right here in St. Louis.
