TWISTED LOGIC: THE CFL WAS BORN! When the energy crisis struck large parts of the Western world in the 1970s, particularly the United States, it spurred a need for measures to conserve energy and led to a remarkable fluorescent breakthrough by electrical engineer Edward E. Hammer (1931 - 2012). It was during this challenging period that Hammer led the development of a pioneering energy-efficient fluorescent lamp in 1973, which directly led to the invention of the compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) in 1976.
