Fulbright Commission News ► FROM U.S. AND ROMANIAN FULBRIGHTERS Michael S. Jones’ Book on Blaga Metafizica religiei – Lucian Blaga și filosofia contemporană (translated by Geo Savulescu and Dominic Georgescu, Editura „Self Publishing,” Bucharest), the Romanian version of Dr. Jones The Metaphysics of Religion: Lucian Blaga and Contemporary Philosophy (Madison, NJ: Farleigh Dickenson University Press, 2006) was made available to the Romanian public in September 2014. After spending a year in Romania and often returning as a visitor, Michael „Mihai” Jones is now a Fulbright Senior Scholar at the University of Bucharest, teaching and continuing his Lucian Blaga project by translating the famous Romanian philosopher’s work into English. This will benefit English-speaking philosophers by making Blaga’s philosophy accessible in their language and benefit U.S.Romanian cultural relations in general.

News from U.S. Fulbright Alumnus Stephen J. Cutler Stephen J. Cutler, Fulbright awardee to Romania in 2004 and 2011-2012 has returned to Bucharest from September to November, 2014 to teach for the Faculty of Sociology and Social Work at the University of Bucharest. His most recent article, “Is Health Affected by Dementia Worries and Concerns about Cognitive Functioning?” was published in the Romanian journal Revista de Asistență Socială (Vol. XIII/3, 2014, pp. 7-15). For the past several months, he has also been serving as a consultant to the World Bank on a project dealing with old age and population aging in Romania.

"A Celebration of Eugene O'Neill" @ American Corner Bucharest At the beginning of October 8, Dr. Adriana Carolina Bulz gave a talk about the great American playwright Eugene O'Neill. Dr. Bulz is a former Fulbright Commission intern and a graduate of the American Studies program at the University of Bucharest. She is currently an assistant professor with the Military Technical Academy in Bucharest. Dr. Bulz wrote her PhD dissertation on the reception of Eugene O'Neill in Romania and published a volume entitled "Readings in Eugene O'Neill's Drama" (2012). Professor Earl Carstens Participates in Annual Scientific Meeting Dr. Earl Carstens is a specialist in Neuroscience from University of California, Davis, and recipient of a Fulbright-University of Bucharest Grant awarded for the first time this year. Professor Carstens was invited as a plenary speaker at the annual meeting of the Romanian Society of Dermatology held in Timisoara, November 5-8. The title of his conference was Itch: from basic research to clinics. The American neurologist has further plans to continue strengthening ties to Romanian colleagues and to make his Fulbright presence in Romania a basis for more cooperation in the future.
