MEET JODY
With “faces of the nightlife” we introduce a prominent person in each edition who contribute to the nightlife as we know it.
For our first edition, we will introduce you to Jody. The current owner of 3 venues and over 13 years of experience. FN: You have been a face of the nightlife for a long time; how long exactly?
ago. A few of the other bars were treated really badly and some places got nothing at all.
JA: I started working at Happy Cock while I was a teacher with the JET program around 15 years ago. I opened Fubar nearly 13 years ago, followed by Cream, Two Dogs and finally moving Cream over to M8 last year.
FN: How would you feel about making a career switch?
FN: How and why did you start? JA: I was always interested in meeting new people and making drinks and after teaching for 3 years I realised that I couldn’t do a 9-5 regular job in an office so I used all the money I saved from my 3 years of JET and opened Fubar. FN: If you look back at where you started, how do you feel about where you are now? JA: I can’t complain, I wish I had maybe opened a bigger place about 4 years ago and also invested in bitcoin, but apart from that I am farely content. FN: Did things go different than you expected? JA: The only thing that was a cause for concern was all the problems with the dance licensing and the police a few years 4 Fukuoka Nightlife Magazine
JA: Well with Two Dogs we tried to go in a slightly different direction. I think that this is probably the way I will go in the future if I was to open another place. FN: What is the best and worst thing about being bar owner? JA: Best thing is knowing that people are still having a good time and meeting a load of different people. The worst and best thing is being able to drink while you work, sometimes you are in the mood and it just helps to make a great night. Some nights (usually after a heavy night the day before) drinking is the furthest thing from your mind but if a customer offers, you can’t refuse. FN: What is the most important thing that keeps you going? JA: Still enjoying what you do, if the job ever got to be a chore then I think I would step back.

FN: If you could change one thing what would it be? JA: The drinking age in Japan from 20 to 18. FN: Why ‘s that?

FN: What are your plans for the future? JA: Probably another Two Dogs and try and hold some fun events. I want to plan a “onesies” pub crawl. FN: Is there something you would like to say to our readers? JA: If you haven’t been down Oyafuko before please come and check out some of the bars and restaurants. Obviously we would love to have you at Fubar, M8 and Two Dogs, but if that’s not your scene there are lots of great places. Oyafuko has the highest concentration of bars and clubs in Fukuoka, as well as a lot of foreigner owned places.

「ナイトライフの顔」 では、現在のナイトライフに貢献する著名な 人物を各エディションに紹介します。
初版では、現在趣向の異なる3店舗を経営し、13年間に及ぶ経 験を持つJodyを紹介します。
FN: 長期にわたって夜の仕事をしてき たかと思いますが、正確にはどのくら いですか？ JA: 15年くらい前、JETプログラムで英
語の先生をしているときにHAPPYCOCKで働き始めて、約13年前に FuBarをオープン、続いてCream、Two Dogsをオープンしました。昨年Cream からM8に移りました。
FN: なぜクラブ・バーの経営をしようと 思ったのですか？
JA: Two Dogsは少し方向性を変えよ うとしています。 もし次に新しい店舗をオープンする としたらTwo Dogsのようになると思 います。
FN: オーナーとして一番いいこと/ 一番悪いことは何ですか？
JA: いいことは人々が楽しんでいるの を肌で感じられることと、沢山の人と 知り合えること。
ルを作ることに興味があり、英語を3年 教えたころには自分には9時-17時的 な仕事は向いてないと思ったため、3年 間貯めた貯金を元手にFuBarの開店 をしました。
悪いことでありいいことでもある のは、仕事をしながら飲むことができる こと。時には飲みたい気分だったり、場 を盛り上げるためであったり。時には（ まぁ、だいたい深酒をした翌日）飲みた いなんて全く思っていなくてもお客様か ら勧められたら断れないこと。
現在をどう思いますか？
最も大切なことは何ですか？
JA: 元々新しい人との出会いとカクテ
FN: 昔(始めたころ)を振り返り、改めて JA: 特に不満はないけれど、強いて言
うなら4年くらい前にもう少し広い場所 に移りたかったのと、 ビットコインに投 資しておけば良かったなということくら いですね。
FN: お店を始めてから、予想外の展開
や思っていた通りにならなかったことは ありましたか？
JA: 考えさせられるのは、数年前のこ とですが、風営法の改定によりダンス 禁止や警察による立入でひどい扱い を受けたクラブやバーがあり、現在で は跡形もなくなってしまったところもあ ることです。 FN: キャリアを180度変えること(昼で はなく夜働くということ)にどう感じて いましたか？

FN: モチベーション維持をするうえで
JA: まだこの仕事を楽しんでいるし、
もし煩雑になったら一歩下がります。
FN: もし、ただ一つ何か変えられるとし たらそれは何ですか？
JA: 日本の飲酒可能年齢を18歳に したい。 FN: それはどうしてですか？
JA: 18歳といえば十分自己責任で 飲めると思うし、 ビジネスにもつなが るから。 FN: 将来のプランは何ですか？
JA: おそらく2店舗目のTwo Dogsの オープンと、“着ぐるみではしごバー“ みたいな面白いイベントをしたい。

JA: もし親不孝通りに来たことがない なら、是非一度は来てください。 もちろ んFuBar・Two Dogs・M8に来てほし いけれど、 もし合わないと思っても大丈 夫。福岡で一番娯楽が密集している親 不孝通りでは、 レストラン・クラブ・バー など自分に合った楽しみがきっと見つ けられます。外国人オーナーのお店もた くさんありますよ。

Coyote Ugly Saloon

When the word got out that Coyote ugly saloon was coming to Fukuoka, we weren’t sure what to expect. So we did some research; we visited their website, viewed some videos, and checked out some of the forums to see what others had to say about it. It didn’t take long before we got very excited!
The content of our research was filled with beautiful women dancing on top of bars and in front of a cheering crowd. The moment we set foot in the recently launched bar, we were impressed. A beautiful lady stepped forward and greeted us. Ready to show us the available seats and pour us a drink. Everything was according to what we had read online. The exciting atmosphere, the beautiful women dancing on the bar and the Japanese/American menu are definitely a great conversation maker.

The bar itself is ideally located in Tenjin, within walking distance from the station. If you feel like dancing after the show, or want to grab a bite anywhere else there are plenty of clubs, bars, and izakaya in the direct vicinity available.
コヨーテアグリーサロンのことを初めて聞いたと き、 どんなところなのか全く見当がつきませんで した。手始めにネットで検索してレビューを読ん だりビデオを見たりしているうちに、福岡の開店 が待ち遠しくなりました。 この場所は、応援している大勢以前、バーの上 で踊っている美しい女性がいっぱいいました。 真新しい店内に足を踏み入れるやいなや驚か されました。
綺麗な女性が挨拶で出迎えてくれて席へと案 内してくれます。 そしてウェルカムドリンクを注い でくれました。 ネットで読んだものとすべて同じ でした。 ワクワク感のある店内にバーカウンター を使った魅力的なダンス。
ここにいると話題に尽きません。 それと日本 語と英語のメニューが雰囲気づくりを手伝っ ています。
お店自体は天神の真ん中、駅から徒歩圏内に あります。
コヨーテアグリーサロンに来て、 その後クラブで 踊るもよし、バーでのんびり飲むもよし、居酒屋 で腹ごしらえするもよし、 どこへ行くにもすべて 徒歩圏内です。
