It is the mission of the Division of Undergraduate Studies to assure that each undergraduate student at the Florida State University receives a strong educational foundation on which to build a successful academic program of studies. OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT/OFFICE

The Presidential Scholars award is the premier undergraduate merit scholarship at Florida State University. The program provides four years of coursework, programs, and support and is open to high school seniors who are admitted into the Florida State University Honors Program. The Presidential Scholars Program invests in undergraduate students with extraordinary potential to be the transformational leaders of their generation. The community of Presidential Scholars, comprised of 120 students (30 per class year), will be critical and innovative thinkers who use their talents to make meaningful contributions to society. The program is highly competitive, open to all disciplines, and provides access to the best Florida State University has to offer our students. THE POSITION

The primary responsibility of this position will be to ensure the success of students in the Presidential Scholars Program. This will include orientating the new class of scholars to campus, assisting in the development and implementation of programing for the four classes of scholars, as well as assessing the effectiveness of and scholar satisfaction with the program. The graduate assistant will support the program director in organizing seminar courses for the program. The graduate assistant will also assist and support the student leadership of the program, as well as offer mentoring to the scholars in group and individual environments. The Presidential Scholars Program works to align the individual interests and personal vision of each scholar with opportunities for engagement in the community and on campus, as well as encouraging deep reflection, personal development, and academic excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Advising and mentoring students in the program • Assisting in program application review and program assessment • Managing and preparing monthly and annual events for the program • Assisting in the administration and planning of Presidential Scholars courses (including monthly Sunday afternoon meetings) • Collaborating with campus partners on Presidential Scholars Programming • Assisting with the program’s student leadership and providing programming and support for their development

QUALIFICATIONS

• Admitted in an FSU graduate program (Preferably Master’s in Higher Education Administration) • Interest in improving student success for high achieving and motivated students • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
