It is the mission of the Division of Undergraduate Studies to assure that each undergraduate student at the Florida State University receives a strong educational foundation on which to build a successful academic program of studies. With this as our mission, the Division:
• Supervises and monitors a number of state-wide and university-wide degree requirements. • Serves as the Academic Dean for most freshmen and sophomore students (exception--BFA and Music students admitted directly into their degree-granting programs). • Coordinates advising for lower-division students in all non-BFA/Music programs. • Sponsors and directs programs designed to promote retention and academic excellence.

THE CENTER FOR UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH AND ACADEMIC ENGAGEMENT
The CRE is leading a growing movement to involve FSU students in the highest levels of academic engagement, helping students take advantage of the very best a major research university like FSU has to offer. From supporting faculty and instructors as they include research and creative projects in their courses, to facilitating global citizenry and engagement through service-learning, social entrepreneurship, and research projects with community-based organizations around the world, from programming that involves undergraduates, regardless of background or discipline, in high-impact research and scholarship, to showcasing the work of our developing research assistants through symposia and publications, the CRE works across the university to enhance the educational engagement of our students and the international reputation of our university.
The CRE is a collaborative office that works closely with the Office of National Fellowships and the Honors Program in the Honors, Scholars, and Fellows House, located in the heart of campus just off of Landis Green. The selected assistant can expect a collegial and fun office environment with opportunities to learn about academic engagement and education for high-achieving and ambitious undergraduates.

INFO ON THE POSITION
The primary function of this position is to support the Florida-Georgia Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation in STEM (FGLSAMP; https://cre.fsu.edu/undergradresearch/fglsamp), which advances the success of underrepresented students majoring in STEM disciplines, and to assist with branding and promotional activities. This position will also involve extensive contact with undergraduate students through advising students in one-on-one meetings, leading group workshops, and conducting practice presentations. This position will also help with planning, promotion, and execution of several annual, university-wide events, including the President’s Showcase of Undergraduate Research Excellence (fall), the Undergraduate Research Symposium (spring), Fall Research Day, and the Global Scholars Showcase, among others.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conduct one-on-one advising meetings with students interested in CRE programs, especially FGLSAMP. • Advise and coordinate meetings and activities for FGLSAMP. • Leverage social media to promote CRE programs and events. • Assist with logistical planning and coordination of CRE events (listed above), as well as developing audience interaction activities. • Evaluate student submissions to the Research Area of the Garnet and Gold Scholar Society.
• Create and manage student applications through Qualtrics and SurveyMonkey Apply for programs and awards. • Help produce and submit assessment materials for FGLSAMP and branding and promotional activities. • Deliver workshops and presentations on undergraduate research to classes and student groups. • Professional development: ability to attend/present at the annual Florida Statewide Symposium: Best Practices in Undergraduate Research, to participate in campus trainings, and potentially other opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Admitted in an FSU Graduate Program (Masters) • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) • Highly organized and detailed oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects • Flexible, creative, and self-motivated • Ability to work independently as well as within a team • Skilled in the use of computers and appropriate software, i.e. Microsoft Office and Excel • Experience with social media and promotion needed, and experience with Canva and video creation helpful • Availability to work some weeknight and possibly occasional weekend hours
