Your FSU Identity
The university has a number of methods for identifying you as a student and is phasing out some of those methods in the interest of protecting your privacy. The multitude of identities can be confusing. Here is a short glossary to help sort it out: __FSU (Identification) Card This is the actual student card you receive from the FSUCard Center. The magnetic strip on this card identifies you at the libraries, Leach Center, Student Cinema, and other facilities where you may receive benefits for being an enrolled student. The numbers contained on the card are rarely used to identify you on campus.
__FSU ID: This is your login to My.Fsu.Edu and your FSU email identity. It will look something like “ets05”. This is primarily your online identity and is used to access secure online functions. You will rarely be asked for this ID outside of the online environment. __FSUSN (Secure Number) This is an identifying number assigned to you, which is meant to replace the use of the Social Security number as a university identifier. Offices around campus will begin to use the FSUSN, rather than the Social Security Number or 999 number. It will look something like FN0123456. The letter and number combination was selected randomly for you. If you do not know your FSUSN, log in to My.Fsu.Edu, go to “Tools”, then FSUID, and you will go through a process of authentication to receive the number. You will be asked for this more often in coming terms. __Temporary FSU ID or “Clone” SSN You may not qualify for a Social Security Number and may have been assigned a number for on-campus use which resembles the SSN (a nine digit number that generally starts with 899 or 999). In the future, neither the clone SSN or real SSN will be used to identify you on campus, but you may still encounter offices which have not yet transitioned to the FSUSN. This number is NOT a federally issued SSN and may not be used outside the FSU campus in place of an SSN.
