Frost School of Music Where Innovation and Tradition Transform You
Fully Equipped
Preparing You for Tomorrow The Frost School of Music, one of two schools created in 1926 when the University of Miami opened, is one of the largest, most comprehensive and relevant music schools in all of higher education. The Frost School offers a diverse array of world-class programs that immerse you in the richness of music as you bring its power to others. The Frost School is a pioneer of new curricula and was the first in the nation to offer professionally accredited bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Music Business, Music Engineering Technology, and Arts Presenting. It was the first in a major university to develop a student-run label, ’Cane Records, and publishing company, Category Five. The University of Miami School of Law and the Frost School also now offer the first-ever joint degree program in
law and music business ( J.D./M.M.). The Frost School of Music also was among the first to offer degrees in Music Therapy and Studio Music and Jazz. Our hands-on Experiential Music Curriculum inspires your development as an “internal musician” rather than a rote learner and provides technology and music business training. Award-winning faculty-artists conduct prestigious programs such as composition, instrumental performance (strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion), keyboard performance, and vocal performance. Robust performance opportunities abound through the prestigious Frost Symphony Orchestra, Frost Wind Ensemble, Frost Chorale, Frost Opera Theater, Frost Concert Jazz Band, Frost Studio Jazz Band, and Frost Vocal Jazz Ensembles.
The Frost School of Music is home to the Henry Mancini Institute, which provides students with realworld, genre-blending performance and recording opportunities throughout the year. In addition, through its Miami residency, The Cleveland Orchestra gives Frost School students a rare chance to receive coaching from orchestra musicians and conductors on campus. With degree offerings ranging from bachelor’s to master’s, D.M.A., and Ph.D., the Frost School’s innovative programs, combined with its traditional areas of concentration, offer students one of the widest choices of career programs of any music school in the world.
