Application for Membership
The Friends of Dartington exists to support and advance the aims of The Dartington Hall Trust. • The Friends of Dartington was founded in 1985 and membership is open to all. The Friends has approximately 400 members of whom some 300 live in South Devon and others live elsewhere in Britain and overseas. • Members of The Friends receive at least four mailings each year of the Friends Newsletter together with details in advance of The Friends’ events and activities. There are discounted ticket prices for members at Friends events. • The Friends put on a programme of talks throughout the year to hear about and discuss topics related to the Trust’s work, the Dartington Estate and its history and significant artists and innovators who have lived, worked or taught at Dartington. These talks are usually followed by informal discussion over a glass of wine. The Friends also organise visits and social events. • Though The Friends does not engage in fund-raising for the Trust, donations are made to support specific projects of the Trust when funds allow. Members of The Friends are allowed a discount of 10% on purchases from most of the shops at the Cider Press Centre and from the Totnes Bookshop. • The Friends of Dartington is a broad-based organisation which is concerned with the whole scope of the Trust’s work including its core programmes in The Arts, Social Justice and Sustainability, its education, training and skills development courses, and the Dartington Hall Estate itself - its land and landscape, its grounds and gardens and its buildings both historic, modernist and more recent. • The Friends of Dartington is managed by its Committee, elected at the AGM each June. Accounts are prepared each year to show the financial position as at 31st March. It has its own Constitution, and it is an independent organisation and from time to time the Committee may advise the Trust of the views and opinions that it receives from its members.
Membership Donations The minimum membership donation is set each year at the AGM. Currently this is £12 for an individual member and £18 for two members living at the same address. If you can afford to make a slightly larger donation this will increase The Friends’ ability to cover their running costs and to make donations to support specific Dartington projects selected by the Friends through their Committee.
