A celebration of the best films made by young people aged 13-18 from across Ireland. This gala screening of the finalists in Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year Awards 2023 is followed by the annual Awards ceremony in association with RTÉ and Screen Ireland.

Against All Odds

Extraordinary young people, amazing stories. This unique event showcases films from across the globe. All made by young filmmakers with inspiring stories to tell. From Ukraine to South Korea, these films celebrate diversity and determination.

Introduced by Sinéad Collopy (Smother, Hidden assets, Every Five Miles) is a Limerickborn, award-winning screenwriter whose work is heavily inspired by her twenty years of experience in child protective services in Ireland. Sinéad’s script Every Five Miles was produced as part of RTÉ’s Storyland and centers on a woman’s journey to help a car-washer she suspects is the victim of people-trafficking in Ireland. Sinéad’s work has been selected by the BAI Mentorship scheme, the BBC Writer’s Room, and Her debut feature script ’77 was selected for development through the Screen Ireland Spotlight Scheme in 2020.
