Will’s injury left him in agony

WE’RE SO GUTTED FOR BRAVE WILL! Our hearts went out to Paralympian Will Bayley after he had to pull out of Strictly Come Dancing last week following a nasty fall. The table tennis pro sustained an agonising knee injury in rehearsals and, despite early hopes that he might be able to dance again, he was sadly forced to bow out of the competition. What we loved about Will was the fact that he never let his disability get in the way of those difficult dances each week – and he didn’t expect special treatment from the judges, either. “I appreciate that they treated me like everyone else,” he said. “I didn’t want them to feel sorry for me and think, ‘Oh, we’ll give him a 10.’” While we applaud Will’s fighting spirit, it’s a worry that, in addition

to his Strictly journey coming to a premature end, his career in table tennis could be jeopardised by his injury. It’s fair to say that most athletes who appear on the show have put their glory days behind them, but Will is – as he said himself – “at the top of my career”. “I’ve played four major tournaments this season and I’ve won three gold medals,” he explained last week. “So this is massively scary to have this injury at this moment. It’s only just starting to sink in.” Like all Strictly fans, the new gang wishes him a speedy recovery.

Katie ‘I want more babies!’

K

PHOTOS: Backgrid

atie Price has vowed to have a baby with her on/off boyfriend Kris Boyson after he grew “jealous” of the time she spends with her estranged husband Kieran Hayler. Katie ditched Kieran from a planned family trip to Dublin last week with their kids Jett, six, and Bunny, five – instead taking Kris, at his request. And now an insider has told new the mum-of-five believes she has come up with the perfect plan to ensure Kris accepts she only has eyes for him – having a child of their own! “Katie reckons a baby will give Kris the commitment he needs from her,” our insider said. “She adores babies and really believes that having another one should keep them together – at least for the foreseeable. As far as Katie can see, it’s a win-win.” Katie hinted at her baby plans last Thursday when she uploaded a clip of herself cradling her godson, Teo, on Instagram Stories and captioned it, “Omg so in love with babies, #love beingamum #lovecaring.”

10

Katie wants to reinforce her image as a mum

Kieran was banned from the trip

Giggling as she cooed over her pal’s tot, she can be heard saying, “Oh my God, I am so broody.” Her decision to have another child comes after Kris, 31, discovered Katie, 41, was set to head to the Irish capital with Kieran and their kids to film a family holiday for her TV series My Crazy Life. Kieran, 32, confirmed he was meant to be on the trip during an Instagram Live stream. “Katie was at the airport with Bunny… I was actually supposed to go with them,” he explained before breaking off and laughing. We’re told personal trainer

Kris put his foot down and took Kieran’s place on the mini-break – and Katie agreed as she feels she has some serious making up to do after a rocky few months. “Katie knows she owes a lot to Kris after her fling with Charles Drury, so she’s trying to keep him sweet,” our source said. “That’s why she went along with Kris banning Kieran from the Dublin trip. “She actually wanted Kieran there – it would have been nice

for the kids and good for the show – but Kris said no, so she went along with it.” Our source went on to explain that as well as strengthening the bond between Katie and Kris, a new baby would cement Katie’s public image as a devoted mum, after she recently took a battering in the press from Charles, 22, who claimed they took cocaine together and rated her “1/10” in the bedroom. “Having another baby will reinforce her status as a mother – not some drug-addicted, badin-bed has-been that Charles made her out to be,” our mole said. “That’s why she’s been going above and beyond by posting pics of the kids of late – to show Kris and the public what a brilliant mother she is. She’s wanted another kid for so long and, with Kris apparently sticking around, she knows it’s now or never.”

NEWSFLASH

To prove her commitment to on/off boyfriend Kris Boyson, broody Katie Price is eager to add to her family

In his tell-all chat, Charles confessed that he and Katie – who’s also mum to Harvey, 17, Junior, 14, and 12-year-old Princess – had also spoken about “trying for a baby”. “She kept saying she wanted another child and how we’d have really beautiful babies,” he said. “Nothing ever came of that

because I didn’t want to jump straight into it. I might have dodged a bullet with that one.” Just hours after Katie and Kris touched down in Dublin, a fan asked Kieran on Instagram Live how he co-parents his kids with Katie. “I have the kids every two days, it’s a 50/50 split,” he replied. “I just want an easy life. The kids

have an up-and-down life on one side, stable on my side.” However, he added that he’s on friendly terms with his ex. “I’ll always be amicable with Kate,” he said. “She’s the mother of my kids. She’ll be in my life for a long time.” You can say that again, Kieran! Lisa Blake

EXCLUSIVE

B‘ eing sexy comes n a t u ra l l y t o u s ’ The hottest band on the block strip off for and reveal which celebs have been sliding into their DMs

T

here aren’t many things we’d rather do on a chilly Wednesday afternoon than gawp at – sorry, grill – three handsome hunks. So imagine our delight when X Factor: Celebrity ’s hottest act, Try Star – aka rugby players Ben Foden and Thom Evans, both 34, and Levi Davis, 21, agreed (with a little cheeky persuasion!) to flash their flesh for our sexy shoot! After steaming up our TV screens with their saucy, and surprisingly good, performance of Blackstreet’s No Diggity in the audition show, the lads left us wanting more. And that’s just what we got when they wowed viewers – and mentor Simon Cowell – in the first live show with their mash-up of Ginuwine’s Pony and Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road. Chatting to the trio, it sounds like they’re only just getting started, too. “We’re doing this for a potential career in music,” says a devilishly handsome Thom. “That’s what we’re all about.” He’s not kidding. In between posing for shots on set, the boys spend their downtime in the changing room practising their vocals for their next performance and working out their staging. Being one-third of Try Star is clearly a welcome relief to band member Ben, who’s spent much of the past year in the headlines for less than favourable reasons. Back in February, Ben confirmed

14

that he had “committed adultery” after reports claimed he had cheated on first wife, Saturdays star Una Healy – mother of his two children, Aoife, seven, and four-year-old Tadhg. He’s since found love again with new wife Jackie Belanoff Smith, who he married in August after a whirlwind romance. Here, the boys tell us what Simon is really like behind the scenes and which boyband’s success they’d love to emulate, plus single members Thom and Levi reveal what they really want in a woman… Hi lads! How have you found X Factor: Celebrity so far? Thom: We’re absolutely loving it. We keep having to pinch ourselves because we’ve watched the show countless times. Coming off stage last Saturday was the biggest buzz we’ve individually ever had. How did you celebrate? Ben: We didn’t, really. We gave it the big chat that we were going to do this and that and then we all ran out of steam. We were going to live the rock and roll lifestyle, but we didn’t. Thom: We had a camomile tea and went to bed! Sounds sensible! How are your fellow competitors? Thom: I honestly can’t speak badly about anyone. Everyone

15

is so positive and wishes everyone the best. It’s a real feel-good environment to be in and I wish there was something bad I could say. [Laughs] Ben: Everyone on the show is so nice and it’s so heartbreaking for two people to go. Anyone who leaves at any point from here on out is going to be heartbroken because it’s so much fun. Has anyone surprised you by how down to earth they are? Thom: I just loved Vinnie [Jones]. I watched all his films growing up and he played that real hardman, scary guy and he has that scary look, but he’s such a nice guy. We got on with him straight off the bat. Have the judges been telling you to ramp up the sexiness? Thom: I think that naturally just comes to us! [Laughs]

‘I feel like I have to rein it in sometimes!’

16

Ben: Oh, Tommy! Thom: When I’m up there with these guys we’re just rocking out. Being with them just naturally brings it out! It’s like being with two mates and having the best time ever. Ben: You feel like you’re in a big nightclub. Thom: I feel like I have to rein it in sometimes! [Laughs] Levi, you said Megan McKenna was attractive. Is anything going on there? Levi: You’ve done your research, well done! Look, I’m on the show to be a professional and I said she was hot in an interview – and she is – but nothing’s going on there. So do you fancy any of the other contestants, Thom? Thom: I agree with Levi – I would be lying if I didn’t say I find a few

acts attractive. But that’s just… Ben: …your natural animal instinct? Thom: There are a couple… But I’ve forgotten their names! Ben: Louis Walsh? [All laugh] What’s it been like having lots of new-found female attention? Ben: New-found?! Thom: It’s just really nice waking up with a few more DMs of good wishes. It’s always nice, isn’t it? What’s the weirdest DM you have received? Thom: I don’t think I could repeat it. There have been some pretty funky ones! Have you had messages from other celebs who aren’t on the show? Thom: Yeah, there have been a couple. The one who made me laugh the most was Judy Murray, who I did Strictly Come Dancing

with. She used to call me “#Desperate” when I did Strictly because I always had my top off, and she wrote, “Great to see nothing changes, but fair play because I loved you boys up there. You brought the fun.” And that was really sweet because I think she’s amazing. Nice! What type of women do you go for? Ben: I like blonde Americans from New York – usually with the name Jackie. Quite specific! Levi: I go for personality. Someone who makes me smile and finds my unfunny jokes funny. And what’s your biggest turn-off? Levi: Not laughing at my unfunny jokes! Ben: I think everyone has the same one, but I’m a really big believer in hygiene. A girl who smells nice, her hair smells nice, nice-smelling breath, like when you kiss her on the cheek and she has a nice smell. Thom: Someone who takes themselves too seriously, I think. I like to have a laugh. I like to be serious every now and again, but not someone who’s serious all the time. How does Jackie feel about the increased attention, Ben? Ben: I don’t get any increased attention, I’m usually getting smashed on Twitter by people slagging me off! I think she thinks she’s pretty safe because of what happened in the past. If anything did happen again, I’d literally be chopped up into pieces and buried in a forest! She’s super relaxed. Americans are very different to how they approach relationships. She didn’t know me as a rugby player and didn’t know about the show, so she just met me for me. That’s what I love about her. She’s pretty understanding. She comes to all the shows. She’s got a T-shirt with Try Star on! What makes her The One? Ben: She’s like someone I’ve never met before. And I’m a social person, I’ve met thousands of people, and when she walked into the room my eyes were instantly drawn towards her and she was someone I wanted to get to know straight away. She’s interesting, smart and very sexy. She ticks all the boxes in so many ways. And I like the fact she’s a risk taker as well and is impulsive and would do something to shock her friends and family. The whole thing was very romantic. Has being in Try Star and doing The X Factor: Celebrity

disrupted your honeymoon period together, though? Ben: Where we got married was unique. It’s one of the most beautiful places of the world – Nantucket is seriously amazing – so we sort of had our honeymoon where we got married. It hasn’t impacted the honeymoon period because we were back in New York for a month or so. Are your children going to come and watch the show? Ben: Hopefully. Will they come with Jackie? Ben: Yeah, they’ll come with my mum, my dad and Jackie. How has it been co-parenting with Una? Ben: We’re doing what we can. When I’m in England I have them as often as possible. It’s quite tough being in America, but I had them for the whole of August. When I can have them, I do. I’d like to have them with me as much as possible. Do your kids think it’s cool that you’re in Try Star? Ben: They’ve been away in Florida at Universal Studios, so they’re

having a whale of a time. I think they’ll be amazed by the whole spectacle. I want them to see it so when they grow up they’ll have memories of me being on stage. Has Una given you any feedback or said what she likes about the performances? Ben: No, because she’s been away. I don’t really try to get her to critique us because she is a professional. You’ve had quite a whirlwind 12 months. Do you have any regrets? Ben: I’m a big believer in fate and that everything happens for a reason. Obviously, I haven’t handled myself in the best manner, but I have nothing but love for Una and wish her the best in everything she does in the future. I want us to have a great relationship going forward. I want us to be best friends. We have two amazing little people together who are our pride and joy, so we’re going to be bound together forever. Have you met her new partner, David Breen? Ben: He’s involved in the rugby world so I have

17

18

bumped into him, but since they’ve been together I actually haven’t seen him because he’s been busy and I’ve been floating in and out. But hopefully we will get to hang out some time. You’ve kindly stripped off for our shoot. Who do you think has the best body in the band? [Ben and Levi point to Thom] Levi: Ben and I are still playing. We need the winter weight! Thom, do you think you have the hottest body? Thom: No! It’s each to their own. I’m not everyone’s cup of tea. Levi: You’re my cup of tea! Who is the vainest? Ben: I don’t think we’re that bad. Thom: We get ready pretty quick. People will think we’re vain, but we’re pretty easy-going. Ben: I’m just happy getting a free haircut! Levi: I’m on a student budget! Who is the best dancer? Thom: I think Levi’s got the moves. Ben: Well we know who the worst is. I’m an A for effort, but C for talent. Much to work on! Who’s your biggest competition? Levi: Everyone is amazing. I’m not just saying this to be diplomatic. Every week we go out and think, “Oh my God they were great, their performance was amazing.” You want the competition to be tough, you don’t want it to be easy. All we can do now is focus on us, because everyone is so good. What’s the dream after the show? To record an album? Ben: Oh, 100 per cent. To come up with our own identity and our own style of music – to go into the studio and write our own songs. Thom: And to tour the country with that same buzz we had on Saturday night. I could do that for the rest of my life. Just the feeling of being with these guys on that stage, I’ve got a hunger for it like no other now.

‘I go for personality – someone who makes me smile’

Which boyband would you like to be as big as? Ben: Hanson? [Laughs] Are there many three-piece boybands? Hanson is the only one I could come up with. If you could pick one boyband to be in the world, it has to be *NSYNC or Backstreet

Boys. They were the biggest bands, right? Thom: One Direction? Ben: We want to do our own thing! What’s Simon really like? Thom: He’s been great. Ben: He’s been very opinionated. [Laughs]

BEN ‘TROLLS DON’T REALISE THE EFFECT OF THEIR WORDS’ O S We all make mistakes and I think we should all be a bit more forgiving. I’ve done things I’m not proud of and for people to hold that against you and constantly refer to it – I don’t think it’s right. I know for a fact these people wouldn’t say it to my face. If you’re not willing to say it to someone’s face, then why put it on the internet for people to read? When you read those nasty comments they can fester. People put on a brave face, but when they’re alone that’s when those sort of things eat away at you. There have been times over the last 12 months – before I met Jackie – that I went to some dark places and was a bit like, “I don’t really know where my life’s going or what’s going on.” But I

think everyone goes through points like that. I think people who troll don’t realise the effect of their words. When things are done in a hateful manner or said in a way to try to hurt someone, that’s where Facebook, Instagram and Twitter have to be careful with how they govern their sites. Years ago, Una used to have a horrible troll who said nasty things – even about our children. She’d block him and delete him, then he’d open another account. I think people need to have domains registered to their account so there’s an address, so if you do something that is illegal then the site or the police can find where you live.

Thom: That guy just knows everything there is to know about successful artists, whether it’s groups or individually. Even the judges with their comments, we take everything on board. That’s one thing about being professional rugby players – you take it and try to improve and make it better. Thom, you competed on Stric Strictly Come Dancing. H How does this compare? Thom: It’s similar in some ways, but doing X Factor: Celebrity is even more enjoyable because it’s singing, ddancing and being with these two guys. I love music th and I’m happiest when singing or dancing, so doing them both is an actual dream. JULIA BROOKS The X Factor: Celebrity live shows continue Saturdays on ITV

Fair enough. It’s been three years since you were on I’m A Celeb… I’m going out again! I’m going on the ITV2 show for three shows, so I’m looking forward to that. I loved I’m A Celebrity and I made really good friends – it was one of my favourite shows to do. It changed me, because since then I’ve been obsessed with being outside. I go hiking and camping and I love it. You look amazing! What’s your fitness regime? I love hiking. I often do up to 20-mile walks in Pembrokeshire. I’m in the middle of buying a house in Wales. I’m a bit of a nomad. I just wish there were twice as many days in the year, because there’s so much I genuinely love doing and I don’t have time to do it all. What would you still love to do? I’ve fallen in love with doing radio. I’ve got a Saturday show on BBC Radio Wales. It’s doing really well and we have the biggest laugh. Have you got any plans for your 60th birthday next year? It’s too early for that yet, but there will be lots of holidays. I’m lucky I’ve got my aeroplane and my racehorse. Life is just good! Did you enjoy the Pride of Britain Awards this year? It was wonderful – the people are wonderful. It was so special.

‘I was like Holly Willoughby – I was on everything’

22

Because it was the 20th, it came with all the memories of those who have been before – many of whom are no longer with us. And it was also lovely to see how lives have changed. It was like a Pride of Britain wedding. It’s an emotional night. How did you manage to hold it together? I struggled, to be honest. Particularly when we showed montages of previous winners and it tumbles in your head – you remember it so vividly. I was a bit choked at the end, I have to say. Is there one particular story that’s remained with you? There are quite a few, not surprisingly, for all sorts of reasons. Especially a lot of the children who are very ill. The foster parents’ stories touch you, because they have such love. I met up with one of my favourites, Betty McGlinchey, who’s fostered over 1,000 children. She’s 80 and she’s still got four of them in the house. She’s amazing. You realise there are so many different ways to be a good person. Your children were with you at the awards. How do they feel about the limelight? I deliberately kept them out of the newspapers and that is what has become their norm. Katie and I have hosted a few things for The One Show, because she’s worked at NASA. For me, it’s not for a celebrity parent to sell their child,

you’ I feel very strongly about that. Because once you’ve sold privacy you can never pull it back. Every decision they make is their decision. They love Pride of Britain because they’re very kind people. My best friend, who I met when she won a Pride of Britain award 20 years ago, came too. Were you starstruck by anyone at the do? I don’t get starstruck. When the celebs are at the event, the awards peel away a layer and they expose themselves a bit more heart-wise. Everyone dresses in a very respectful way and that’s the tone I’ve always wanted to set. It’s an amazing turnout from all walks of life, because it’s the big one. Twenty years ago, I was a bit like Holly Willoughby – I was on everything. We’ve driven it all the way for 20 years. Do the awards make you feel more grateful for what you have? Absolutely. I wake up every day and I know how lucky I am. I choose not to live a celebrity life. Ninety five per cent of celebs live in London, but I choose not to. I want a different life. I want to be around normality, rather than the hamster wheel of turning up to everything. I love my life. I laugh so much and I’m happy and calm. I do things that I genuinely want to do. Pride of Britain and meeting all these people has molded me in that way. GEMMA MCCARTNEY The Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards, in partnership with TSB, is on ITV on 5 November at 8pm

hances are, if you’ve got little ones in the home or are planning on starting a family, you’re on the hunt for ways to look after your baby without breaking the bank. And number one on the list? Nappies, of course. Aldi has a range of amazing, affordable, high-quality nappies – and a host of awards to prove it. Converts Liz and Drew, who have just had another baby, were impressed by the cost-cutting they managed when they started shopping at Aldi, and are now huge fans of Mamia nappies. “We love Aldi, and the nappies are the big hit,” says Liz. The saving they made by swapping from other nappy brands is made all the more pleasing by the excellent quality of this improved, redesigned range. “Mamia

nappies are super absorbent, soft against our baby’s skin and really flexible with how they fit,” says Liz. “The waistband is stretchy and the tabs are resealable so it’s easy to ensure he’s comfortable.” In fact, Liz thinks the nappies are the most comfortable they’ve tried. Mamia nappies range from newborn (launching in the new technology late November) to size 6 easy pants for toddlers. They have an ultra-dry air system and 12-hour leak protection, and have won a host of accolades. Aldi was even named Supermarket of the Year in the Loved By Parents awards, not only for the nappies but for the entire Mamia range. Liz and Drew also swear by Mamia wipes. If you’re new to parenting, you’ll soon discover that you will go through more baby wipes every day than you could ever have imagined, so it’s

Liz and Drew haven’t looked back since they discovered Aldi baby products – and they think you won’t either.

Marnie Simpson & Casey Johnson

The former Geordie Shore star has finally had her first child – a son – with boyfriend Casey. The baby’s arrival will have come as a huge relief, given that Marnie, 27, had to be induced as she was 12 days over her due date. Just days earlier she spoke of the “discomfort” she was experiencing, saying, “I feel horrific in so many ways!” A rep for the new mother announced, “Marnie gave birth to a beautiful baby boy yesterday afternoon. Mother and son are both doing well.” And later, proud Casey, 24, shared a sweet snap of his son’s hand clasping his finger. Congrats!

Just four months after this year’s series of Love Island ended, contestants Ovie and India have called time on their summer romance. The couple, both 28, who came third on the dating show, are believed to have parted ways due to “conflicting schedules”. And while an insider claimed the genetically blessed pair finished things “amicably”, last month India was accused of cheating on the basketball player with footballer Kieran Gibbs while Ovie was rumoured to have been getting close to TV presenter Maya Jama – something he has denied. We doubt these two will stay single for long!

But the former Emmerdale actor, who’s partnered with professional dancer Oti Mabuse, reveals he’s refusing to think about the final just yet. “Oh gosh, it’s premature!” the 35-year-old tells us, while Oti, 29, adds, “It’s one of those things where you have to take one week at a time. You can’t put yourself under pressure on how long the journey will be. You spend so much time with your partner, it’s a blessing we get on so well. Kelvin: I’m a perfectionist, but I’m also a realist. I’ll never be able to dance like these guys [the professionals]. Is Strictly all consuming? Kelvin: Yes it is! I’ll get a text from Oti at 1am with a screenshot showing where my arms could be better. That’s because she’s committed. SICK OF BEING SICK

SIMON’S A PRO

You may have seen me out and about last week looking very uncomfortable – it’s because I’m still in such awful pain with my back. I can barely stand up straight. I’m sick of crying about it, but it’s really restricting me. I’m going to a clinic later this month to see a gynae specialist, but early indications suggest it’s endometriosis, which can take years to diagnose. The pain is stopping me from doing the housework, and when the housework starts building up it affects my mental health. All in all, I’m having a really rough time – I’m nervous about my panto starting next month, but if it comes to it, I’ll just have to grit my teeth and get on with it.

If you’re Simon Cowell you can do whatever the hell you like, so I wasn’t that surprised to see he cancelled his massive 60th birthday party due to “scheduling conflicts”. I’ve known Simon for years and I can tell you, the man is the epitome of professionalism – he’s always gonna do what’s best for his business. Thanks for the invite, by the way, Cowelly. I presume it must have got lost in the post?!

MY ROCK L weekk I saw daft Last d f reports that I was “scared” to trust Ryan after what I’ve been through with men. Let me set the record straight on the real story – I trust Ryan more than I’ve ever trusted anyone in my life. I don’t know where these reports come from. Believe me, my only pals at the moment are my kids and Ryan. I trust him implicitly. I could put my heart in his hand and he’d carry it with pure delicacy. Soppy… but true!

RIDICULOUS RINGS

So Nicki Minaj’s engagement ring is worth over $1 million, apparently. I’m sorry, but that is absolutely ridiculous, you could feed a small country with that sort of money! I remember my first engagement ring – and I’ve had a few – from Brian was a simple white gold band with a diamond that cost him £1,100. To me, being brought up on a council estate, that felt like a fortune, but I chose it myself and it meant the world to me. George’s ring, below, was a bit more expensive – I think it was worth about £3.5k. I’ve no idea how much Mark Croft spent – he probably got it out of a cracker.

HATE LETTERS

I was horrified to read that Scarlett Moffatt received a handwritten letter in the post calling her fat. It reminded me of a truly awful experience I had when I was pregnant with my Molly. I was at my mum’s flat in Warrington and a letter to me was hand-delivered through her door, saying, “I hope you lose the baby, you’re only with Brian for the money,” and “I hope the baby dies inside you.” It stressed me out so much I started bleeding and was rushed to hospital. I almost miscarried my Molly because of what some vile troll did to me. Words can cause so much damage. Think before you put pen to paper, people!

isa Snowdon tells us she’s feeling “more confident than ever” about her body – and we don’t blame her! The 47-year-old model and presenter always impresses us – and leaves us a little envious – with the stream of bikini snaps she posts on Instagram. “Life’s going so fast that I just think there are so many things I used to worry about in my 20s that I just don’t now,” she tells us. “There’s more space in your brain. It’s a really positive way to feel.” Another reason Lisa’s got a smile on her face is that she’s loved-up with her fiancé George Smart, 40, who popped the question on Christmas Day 2016. The TV presenter got back together with George in 2015, 15 years after they first dated. “When you’re younger, you’re so eager to get out there and see what life has to offer, not necessarily relationship-wise, but work-wise and travel-wise, that you don’t appreciate what’s happening in the moment,” Lisa tells new in our exclusive chat. Here, the former I’m A Celeb star opens up about her lack of wedding plans, her fitness regime and why she’ll be dodging reality TV in the future… Hi Lisa! You’ve been a model, appeared on reality shows, are busy presenting… What’s left on your career bucket list? I look back and I’ve had such a varied career, I just want to continue what I’m doing. The only other thing I’d love to do would be

a dating show that would reflect the relationship I’ve had with George and how we revisited our relationship after a huge 15-year break – looking back on how sometimes you let him or her pass you by. I’d like to get into the psyche of relationships and why you connected with people and why it didn’t work at the time. We’d tune in! Why do you think it works better this time round with George? We’re just older and he’s gone off and done the stuff he needs to do and it’s the same with me. At the time I was travelling and living in LA. There is also a seven-year age gap and that wouldn’t have worked as well back then. He’s lived a life and so have I. Fair enough! We have to say, you’re in amazing shape! How do you do it? Just healthy living. I have a good diet, but I don’t want to be too restrictive with myself and if I fancy some chocolate I have it. Do you feel more confident in your body now? I do. Everything’s not as perky as it once was. Back then you worry too much about, “Pinch a bit here, pinch a bit there.” Now I feel strong and good from the inside and I think that radiates, so you don’t sweat the small stuff. You don’t worry about a bit of cellulite. It’s silly to obsess about those things. What have you learnt about yourself as you’ve got older? You have the power to say no to things, which is very liberating. I’m a good person, kind, generous and thoughtful. I quite like myself. You appeared in Strictly in 2008 and I’m A Celeb in 2016. Are there any other reality shows you’d like to try? No – absolutely not. I loved Strictly and wanted to do it. It was a massive tick off my list. The jungle I wasn’t keen on. So you wouldn’t consider the gruelling Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins? I got asked to do that and I said no. I’m pleased I didn’t do it because it looked like absolute hell. But I love watching it. What advice would you give to the celebs going into the jungle this year? Just try to forget there are cameras there, which is quite hard and I couldn’t. Try to be yourself as much as you can. INTERVIEW

@MICHELLEOBAMA I love following former First Lady Michelle Obama. I saw her on her book tour and I spent the whole show in tears. Her work ethic, journey and intelligence are so inspirational. Following her on Instagram takes me back to when I watched her and the things she said that stuck with me.

@GIRLVSCANCER Lauren Mahon had breast cancer a few years back. She’s overcome it, but on her Instagram account she helps to give you a level of perspective. She’s incredible to follow because of her positivity and her practical tips for anyone who is going through something similar.

She also loves dressing up and she wants to support designers from where she’s from. Her Instagram shows pictures of her wearing African and Nigerian clothes. She shows it’s OK to be multifaceted.

@CHESSIEKINGG Chessie King has a body positivity account and she does a lot to adjust your mindset around perfection online and shows her body for what it is. She makes me feel a lot better. It makes me realise my body isn’t here for other people to critique.

@RUPIKAUR_ Rupi Kaur is a poet and I find her words really beautiful. Something about the language she uses gets me in the right headspace to see the world as something positive, especially when the news can get you down a bit. he was spotted supporting her long-term pal James Argent following his recent health scare, and new can reveal another reason Lauren Goodger was so keen to be by Arg’s side – to end the feud between her and her first love Mark Wright. Lauren, 33, jetted to Majorca to watch Arg perform just days after paramedics dashed to his Essex home following a concerned call from his on/off girlfriend Gemma Collins. And the former TOWIE star is hoping her show of solidarity won’t go unnoticed by Arg’s best mate, her ex-fiancé Mark, a source tells new. “Lauren’s secretly hoping that supporting Arg will help her get back in Mark’s good

Our source explained that Lauren has been dishing out advice to the 31-year-old. “She’s been telling pals she’s going to help Arg with his

Her hope is that Mark will get involved and he’ll start talking to her again, to thank her for her efforts to help his closest mate.” Lauren and Mark dated on and off for 11 years, but ended things once and for all in 2011. Mark began dating actress Michelle Keegan a year later and they married in 2015, while Lauren had relationships with jailbirds Jake McLean and Joey Morrisson, but has failed to find lasting love. The former couple clashed several times after going their separate ways, but Lauren says she’d like to be back on speaking terms with Mark. “I’d happily say hello. I haven’t got a problem – it’s history,” she explained. The star, who flaunted her curves in a neon bikini during her

Our insider added, “Lauren is convinced that once she’s got Mark back on side it will help open up doors to meet a new guy. She thinks once their feud is mended, guys from her past will start flocking to her again.” Let’s hope your plan works, Lozza! Karmel Doughty

YOUR BITE-SIZED ROUND-UP OF THE WEEK’S TOP CELEB GOSSIP

ZAC’S SNAP GETS FANS IN A FLAP!

Zac Efron admirers went into near-meltdown last week after he posted a shot of himself hanging out in a sauna… as you do. At first glance, they were bedazzled by the Baywatch heartthrob’s taut torso and sculpted biceps. But on closer inspection, they noticed a suspect, er, object, poking out of the top of his shorts. It couldn’t be, could it?! Fans went wild, speculating that the 32year-old actor had inadvertently flashed his pecker to his 40.5 million Instagram followers – before reality hit that it’s just the drawstring on his shorts. “Omg, that black string on your shorts could second for something else. Kinda in the craziest position. Lol,” one fan posted. Another commented, “I had to do a quick little double take and zoomed in on this picture!” As for the man himself, he simply captioned the provocative pic with heat and praying hands emojis. We second that, Zac!

JAKE’S HOLIDAY HORROR! S Club fans, rejoice! The band are in talks about a reunion to celebrate their 20th anniversary next year. Members Rachel Stevens, Jo O’Meara, Tina Barrett, Jon Lee, Bradley McIntosh, Paul Cattermole and Hannah Spearritt are said to be contemplating an arena tour. “It’s still early days, but they’re talking and fans may be in for a treat in 2020,” an insider revealed. There ain’t no party like an S Club party!

Jake Quickenden was rushed to hospital while on holiday in Bali after suffering a horrific head injury. The Hollyoaks star, 31, slipped by the pool and bashed his head on a step, which resulted in 25 stitches, a CT scan and an X-ray. Ouch! Sharing a gory snap on Insta, he wrote, “I’m pretty sore and feeling sorry for myself, but as I look back I was so lucky. I’ll be fine in a week or so after I get the stitches removed.” Reflecting on just how serious the incident could have been, the hunk advised fans to “be careful” because “a little loss of concentration can end badly!” Get well soon, hun!

JOEY ESSEX The TOWIE favourite, 29, is to take on his toughest TV challenge yet – a stint on the gruelling Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins. “Joey is really determined to show people he’s not just this glam reality star living a life of luxury. He can get his hands dirty,” a source said.

OZZY OSBOURNE After suffering a few health scares in recent years, rocker Ozzy, 70, has started planning his own funeral. “I’m thinking of having them play a recording of my voice at the service, shouting, ‘I’m not dead yet.’ That’ll scare them!” he said. We wonder what Sharon thinks?!

RICHARD AND JUDY ARE BACK AGAIN! After thrilling fans with their brief return to the famous This Morning sofa last month, former hosts Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan are planning on making further appearances. “We’ll do some more,” promised Richard, 63. “They’ve asked us and we need to work it out.” Richard – who presented the morning TV show with Judy, 71, for 13 years until 2001 – also reassured the show’s current hosts, Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, that they’re not looking to replace them. “We’re not after anyone’s jobs or anything like that,” continued the dad-of-two, who recently starred on The Circle. “It’ll be like having an occasional party.” It’s a party we’ll be glad to attend!

CHRISSY ‘I THOUGHT JOHN WAS GAY OR A MODELISER!’

MELINDA MESSENGER The ex-glamour model, 48, has pulled out of her role as Fairy Stardust in the Robin Hood pantomime at New Theatre Royal in Lincoln. “So sad that I won’t be donning my fairy wings due to a personal family situation which came to a head end of September and which has made it impossible for me to appear,” she tweeted.

Chrissy Teigen has confessed to turning detective on her hubby, John Legend, 40, before they became an item. The model said she scoured online gossip sites to see if John was gay or a player! “He was kind of known at the time for either being in the closet or a modeliser,” the 33-year-old said. “I used to go on the websites and it was always either how I was his beard, or how he paid his past serious girlfriends, or how he was with some new model. Oh my God, I would read everything,” she added. The pair are now happily married and have two children, Luna, three, and 18-month-old Miles.

SIMON COWELL Days before his 60th birthday celebrations, X Factor: Celebrity judge Simon cancelled the lavish bash. “Simon’s priority is his incredibly busy work schedule over the next month,” a spokesperson said.

BRITNEY SPEARS The singer has revealed she’s a secret bookworm in a new Instagram video. “I feel like a princess, wait no a queen... a goddess, as i’m reading The Inner Goddess Revolution at the moment,” the 37-year-old captioned the clip. Go, Brit!

SCARLETT ‘BE KIND, PLEASE!’ Scarlett Moffatt , who last month backed new’s #TurnOffTrolls campaign, has revealed things hit a new low last week after she received a vicious handwritten letter at her home address. The 29-year-old shared an excerpt from the scathing note on Instagram, which included the words “so fat”. “Turns out I’m not even safe from vile comments in the comfort of my own home. I WILL NOT let bullies like this get me down,” Scarlett raged. “Let’s just be kind to people as we don’t know what’s going on in their lives #bekind,” she added. Ignore the haters, Scar!

Y

ou don’t exactly have to squint to spot Sinitta sitting pretty behind Simon Cowell at the X Factor: Celebrity live shows. The 80s pop goddess has famously been besties with Simon for decades, and as a result she’s bagged a place by his side. While Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger judge the acts every Saturday night, it’s Sinitta, 56, who has Simon’s ear. She holidays with his family, they share ideas and she even put him on a strict healthy eating plan. “But there was a point where he took it too far,” she tells us, which is why she found herself wanting to hide chocolate bars in his lettuce! Sinitta is also on a mission to change the stereotypes of female football fans. The Chelsea FC supporter loves of the beautiful game and even aspires to be a referee! But before we get to her ball skills, we want to hear all the backstage goss from the X Factor. Ratings may be in decline, but Sinitta’s not worried. What she is concerned with is figuring out which members of Try Star she can get her claws into! Here, the star reveals who’s romancing who backstage and

40

why Simon’s infamous harem is finally defunct… We’re loving this series, Sin, but ratings have been down… It’s fine. I spoke to Simon yesterday and he sounded really happy with how things are going. You have to remember, viewing is so different today to 13 years ago. The days of 20 million viewers because there was nothing else to watch on a Saturday night are long gone. The millennials watch the show on their phones or on catch up. It’s all OK. Is the show still fun to be a part of after all these years? Oh yes, but it’s different with the

Sinitta’s family holidays with Simon and Eric

celebs. This series, everyone’s already a star in their own right, so backstage it’s a completely new vibe. It’s very swish. There’s a champagne bar, the friends and family roam free… The contestants even have riders! Who’s got the most outrageous rider? Probably the V5 girls. Oh my gosh, what a life to be an influencer – maybe they get sent it all for free? They’ve got everything. Flowers, champagne, sweets, things tied up in ribbon. And they all have an entourage! But they’re not divas. Are there any romances blossoming backstage? The Love Island boys and V5. I can definitely see something happening there. Erm… do you know something we don’t? Ha, I’m just guessing! But there are a lot of hormones flying around backstage. And the girls are gorgeous. The rugby boys are hot, too. Are they single? Two are, one’s married… Well, I’m just saying, I’m single. And they’re all very cute. I’d definitely go for whichever ones aren’t married. I’m on the market, after all! But no, I’d better keep a respectable distance.

The pair are old friends

What about the judging panel – are Simon and Louis still at each other’s throats? All I can say is, thank goodness Nicole is sat in the middle of them! Louis gets so sulky and stroppy with Simon. When Simon critiqued Megan McKenna’s outfit on the first live show, I just wanted to tell Louis to shut up. Simon’s entitled to his opinion. Louis was being ridiculous. Yeah, but you are a bit biased… Well, maybe I am. I probably do take Simon’s side. Though I will stand up to him if I think he’s wrong about something. Any chance of getting you on the judging panel? I think I should take Louis’ place,

Do your kids [Magdalena, 14, and Zac, 13] hang out with Eric? Yeah! We all go on holiday together and everything. They adore him! He’s a really sweet little boy. His mum Lauren Silverman is my best friend. So the harem is no longer? The tabloids used to call it that, but now it’s just Simon and Lauren. I’m very happy to be a part of the friendship group, though. He trusts me, he knows I have no agenda. It was me who got him on to the diet that led to his weight loss. He was starting to look unhealthy She dated and I told him so. He took it on John in 1996 board because it’s me. He’s since told me I saved his life. Did you think he lost too much weight at one point? Yes. I thought he was looking gaunt, so I told him to slow down. He’d cut out sugar and his calorie intake dropped dramatically. His body changed massively. I wanted to hide chopped-up Mars bars in his salad! I think he looks really well again now, though. He certainly does. So tell us why you’re keen to change don’t you? PRIDE OF BRITAIN AWARDS, GROSVENOR HOUSE, LONDON A host of celebs donned their glad rags to honour some of Britain’s unsung heroes last week. Former Strictly pro dancer and yummy mummy-tobe Ola Jordan looked blooming gorgeous in a sparkly gown as she walked the red carpet with her hubby James. The star, who’s due to give birth in March, told GLG she doesn’t think James will cope well when she goes into labour. “He’ll be terrible! He’s more scared than me – he’s more afraid. If things aren’t going the way they should be, I think he’ll be quite bad,” she said while James was out of earshot. She also admitted her blossoming baby bump has come in handy at home, saying, “He’s doing my housework. I told him I can’t do it!” Well, you can’t argue with that, James! Next up, we chatted to X Factor: Celebrity contestant Megan McKenna, who told us she’s glad she’s being taken seriously as a singer at last. “It’s been really tough the past few years. I feel people are finally recognising this is something I’ve been working on my entire life,” she explained. Fellow X Factor contestant Martin Bashir dished the dirt on who the real Mr Nasty is out of the show’s judges. “Simon was the one I was most fearful of, because of his reputation,” he admitted. “But

Nicole came to my practice last weekend and tore me to shreds. I haven’t been as badly treated as that since I played rugby for my university and I conceded two tries!” And there we were thinking Nic was a softie! Meanwhile, former Love Island star Chris Hughes told us why he was flying solo at the event, admitting he’d left his girlfriend, Little Mix star d. Jesy Nelson, tucked up in bed. “I gave her a kiss on the e forehead and told her I’d be back soon,” he told us. So is an engagement on the cards any time soon? e “We’re just focusing on life and being happy,” Chris said.. “I think the next step would be buying a house.” Fellow Islander Curtis Pritchard let us in on the secret to his and Maura Higgins’ lasting romance. “Open mindedness and allowing each other our own space,” he told us. “I’ve only known her for three months le. and things are going incredible. ke I just think we just need to take it slow. I want longevity. I don’t’t want something that’s rushed into, because that’s normally when you make mistakes.” Wise words, Curtis! ‘I’ve made a great friend in Joe Swash’ Maura Higgins on being battered and bruised in DOI training and why women should follow her lead and embrace their sexuality

M

aura Higgins has had her hands full since making it to the Love Island final in July. She presents on This Morning, is in training for Dancing On Ice and is the new face of Ann Summers lingerie. Phew! As we chat to the 28-year-old about her Be More Maura campaign, she can’t quite believe her luck. “It’s a dream come true for me to work with Ann Summers,” she says. “I can’t believe that my face is going to be on the front of shop windows!” The Irish model is loved-up with pro dancer boyfriend Curtis Pritchard, 23, and the pair revealed last month they have made it official. No more eggs or baskets involved! Here Maura talks all about DOI rehearsals, getting close to her co-star Joe Swash and why Curtis is still 100 per cent her type on paper…

Hi Maura. How are things going with you and Curtis? Things are very good, I have to say!

You’re so busy at the moment – do you get much time together? It’s hard to see each other all the time, but we see each other when we can. We’ve spent a lot of time together recently and we make time for each other, which is the most important thing.

You’ve made it official. Do you feel closer to Curtis? I was very close to him before so it’s really only a label, but it’s lovely to be his girlfriend. It couldn’t be

With Joe and some of the DOI team

going any better and we’re happy at the pace we’re going. We’re not trying to do anything for headlines. We were official for a while before we told anyone. We’re in our own little bubble.

Do you ever argue? No. Of course we have normal disagreements about silly things like the weather, but that’s it. We have a lot of fun.

Did you feel a lot of pressure on you when you came out of the villa? I don’t feel any pressure. But I’m very different to a lot of people – I just do what I want.

Lucie Donlan and Joe Garratt the other night and we had another double date with Tommy Fury and Molly-Mae Hague. And I see Chris Taylor all the time – he was one of my best friends in the villa. We try to stay in contact with as many as we can, but we’re so busy.

How’s the DOI training going?

It’s going really well. I’ve definitely progressed and improved, but I’ve got a long way to go.

Is it harder than you thought it would be? Oh, 100 per cent! So much of skating forward is more complicated than you can ever imagine. But I’m very competitive and I really want to do well. Fingers With boyfriend crossed I get to at Curtis least the semi-finals.

You certainly are! Do you keep in touch with the Islanders? I do. We had a double date with

Have you met any of the other celebs taking part? I’ve met them all – it’s a good team. Me and Joe Swash call each other outside of training. I’ve got some really good friendships from it.

Have you met his girlfriend Stacey Solomon? Not yet, but I’m planning on it when I get the time. He wants me to meet Stacey and the baby.

Your Ann Summers campaign is called Be More Maura. Why should women be more like you? I’m very confident and ballsy and I stand up for what I believe in. I think women should feel confident about themselves. A lot of people put a smile on their face, but are they confident? Ann Summers is the perfect partner to spread this.

The campaign is about embracing sexuality too. Do you have a high sex drive?

Have you fallen over a lot?

Yeah, sex is a very good thing and people should love it. GEMMA McCARTNEY

Loads! I’ve got bruises all over my legs. I’m battered and bruised, but it’ll be worth it.

E W E EV E R Y K! This Thi week,k Pete P hits hi the h town without i h EEmily il andd thinks hi k RRobbie bbi W Williams illi hhas ggot iit right… igh I had a great night at the Pride of Britain Awards. It’s one of my favourite events because it’s all about celebrating the country’s most deserving heroes. Emily usually comes with me, but sadly she had to work. I didn’t have a hugely late one because I had to be up at 4am for Good Morning Britain. By the time I got home on Tuesday afternoon I was knackered. Unlike Junior, who didn’t get out of bed until after 12 – but it was half-term! I took him to the cinema to watch Joker for some dad and lad time. Junior’s really serious about being an actor, so the film’s star, Joaquin Phoenix, is someone great to study. I’ve been in talks with a big director in the States, and while I think J has what it takes to act professionally, I want him to wait until he’s at least 16.

SORRY LADIES

It’s official – men are funnier than women! Uni researchers found that us guys are better at telling jokes, after scientists analysed gags from more than 5,000 people and rated blokes’ jokes 66 per cent funnier. Well, there you go. Although, let’s be fair, the person who carried out the research may have been a man. In all honesty, I think it’s bollocks, as there are so many fantastic female comedians. I’d like to get this straight, though – I’m funnier than Emily... But maybe it’s just because I think I’m funny.

What an insult!

When I was on Good Morning Britain last week I got really riled by a debate about banning over-70s from voting. Former Apprentice contestant Joanna Jarjue was arguing that the older generation shouldn’t have a say because they don’t know what’s right for younger people, while Boris Johnson’s dad Stanley was defending the need for their vote. I’m in Stanley’s corner. Older people have life experience and they’ve taught us so many lessons, such as the power of free thinking, respecting people’s opinions and not being wasteful – things the young can sometimes lack. The over-70s are the backbone of our future generations.

LIFE LESSONS Robbie Williams says he was once asked to give a troubled Zayn Malik guidance following his departure from One Direction, but he refused because he was battling his own demons and didn’t have the heart to tell him things might not get better. I can completely relate to why he didn’t feel right giving advice. When I was struggling with my mental health in the 90s, I remember going up to certain people in the industry and asking for advice, but they didn’t know what to say. Thankfully, Robbie’s come out the other side, which reminded me of a time when we were both performing at the Europe Music Awards and Robbie knocked on my dressing room door to ask if he could share, because Mark Morrison had kicked him out of his. I just remember him saying how much he didn’t like the industry. It was shortly after he left Take That and was trying to make it solo. I believe that unless you’ve come through it, you’re not in a position to give advice. I’m glad Robbie has highlighted that.

A tricky debate Nature presenter Chris Packham has urged Ant and Dec and I’m A Celebrity bosses to scrap trials that use live animals. I can see his point, but the insects the celebs are asked to eat in the trials are consumed by people in other countries around the world every day, so can it really be classed as animal cruelty? Plants are also living organisms and have feelings too, so should we not eat those either? On the other hand, I do think the eating trials would work just as well without using live insects. From an entertainment point of view, watching the celebs eat vomit fruit and fermented eggs is just as gruesome!

he call came over the hospital public address system. “Can security go to A&E? Security team to A&E now.” It was a bright morning in March 2018 and I was at University College Hospital, near London’s Euston, on a routine call. As I waited in the main reception, two security men rushed past me and at that moment my radio crackled into life. The signal was poor, but I just made out the word UCH. I had no idea why police had been called to the hospital, but I was right there on the spot so I had to go and investigate. I stepped through the double doors into a corridor and headed for A&E. On my way, a nurse stopped me and said the security men had run the wrong way. “It’s through there that you want,” she said, pointing to a second set of double doors. As I pushed them open, I was struck by how eerily quiet it was. UCH is a busy hospital and is always bustling with patients and staff. But as I walked in I could see about six people standing with their backs to me, all looking in the same direction, but saying nothing and not moving. Whatever it was that had grabbed their attention, I couldn’t see, because they were blocking my view. I pushed through and that’s when I saw him – a powerfully built man in his 30s, smartly dressed in a suit and tie. He was holding a handgun and pointing it straight at a nurse. She was

I later discovered he’d fired three blank shots before I arrived at the scene. It was only when I was back at my station in Islington, London, being treated for concussion, whiplash, bruising and scratches, that it began to sink in. It’s a very busy patch and in my five and a half years on the job I’ve been called to some serious crimes, but nothing like that had ever happened to me before. Like all unarmed officers, my training is to run away from guns and wait for armed officers to deal with the situation. But I was so close to him that at that moment the choice was either to go forward or run away, leaving all those people in danger. That didn’t even cross my mind. But when I’m at home I find it easy to leave it behind and enjoy my young family. I was promoted to sergeant this January and now work in Stoke Newington, Hackney. My role has changed – it’s more deskbound these days. My focus is trying to help out my officers, but I do still go out to the more serious calls. In my job, I’ve really enjoyed going to schools and telling the kids what we do, or sitting down with communities and listening to their problems and trying to find solutions. We get called to everything you can think of – domestic calls, stabbings, antisocial behaviour. One of the most satisfying parts of my job is dealing with victims of really serious crimes, like rapes. We’re the first there and being able to say, “It’s OK. We’re here now and you’re going to get the help you need,” is so rewarding. I might not know how things turn out in the end, because many times cases get passed over to specialist units. But I’m proud that we’re the first people there, and the first to make them feel safe. The awards were overwhelming. I can’t believe I was there. The large space also boasts a stunning cream coffee table and a co-ordinating side table. With talons like that, we’re guessing Georgia probably doesn’t do much housework, leaving her time to perfect her look in front of the Hollywoodstyle make up mirror in the dressing room.

Look at those little paws! We see why Georgia loves cuddling her Pomeranian pup, Monkey. And we’re also rather taken with those sleek white cupboards. A breakfast bar with leather stools separates the living area from the modern kitchen. Monkey relaxes on a super-soft shaggy rug in front of an elegant 1930s-style mirrored table, bringing a touch of the boudoir downstairs.

Georgia perches on a stylish slate grey armchair in a corner of her pared-down dining room. The brushed steel storage cases echo the cool tones of the rug.

‘I’ve cried over my figure’ Geordie Shore star Abbie Holborn, 22, on her fluctuating weight and her ‘phobia’ of the gym HEIGHT 5FT 8IN WEIGHT 10ST 2LB DRESS SIZE 10 Hi Abbie. Are you body confident? Lately I’ve started to accept this is my body and this is the way it is. It was hard living in the Geordie Shore house. You had the likes of Chloe Ferry and Holly Hagan with their hourglass figures – they can wear the most skin-tight dresses. I just don’t feel comfortable wearing them. I prefer to wear outfits that suit my figure more, like long trousers and a crop top. It is hard when you’re in there – I want to look my best, but I constantly feel bloated. There were times in the house where I cried because I felt like shit!

Do you put on weight in the house? Last series, I put on 8lb. Before filming starts I will train really hard so I look my best. I was really lacking in confidence when I came out of the last series. That’s the downside, but I’m quite lucky – I have a fast metabolism. It takes two or three weeks for all the water weight to go and then I feel alright again.

What is your favourite part of your body? My arms. When I put on weight it never goes to my arms, it goes to my belly. But I’ve never had an issue wearing nice crop tops. I’ve always been a bit scrawny on my top half.

don’t get anything done.” Us girls are never happy!

Are you a healthy eater? I am quite healthy. I have prep meals delivered and they’re so much easier.

How’s your workout regime? I used to have a personal trainer because I had a phobia of the gym. When you don’t like the way you look and it’s full of mirrors… I couldn’t bear it. But I had to bite the bullet, so three months ago I joined one. I do spinning classes – I really enjoy them. I try to do a bootcamp twice a year as well.

Which Friday night takeaway is your favourite? It’s got to be a Chinese! I get a lot – chicken curry, chow mein, salt ‘n’ pepper chips and chicken balls.

Have you tried any diets? I’ve tried shakes before and they were an absolute no-go. You end up starving yourself. Then you end up going on a rampage and stuffing your face because you are so hungry. I really like prep meals and the portion sizes are right.

Running isn’t just a form of exercise for Taylor, it’s a chance for her to listen to new music and explore her surroundings. “For me, running is about blasting a whole bunch of new songs and running to the beat. It’s also good because it makes me find a gym wherever I am,” she says.

2

The Look What You Made Me Do singer takes a balanced approach to her diet. “During the week I try to eat healthily, so that means salads, yoghurt, and sandwiches,” she says. “No sugary drinks. I try to keep it lighter, but it’s nothing too regimented. I like comfort foods like a burger and fries or ice cream.”

3

For Taylor, exercise has a practical purpose rather than just to look good. “Working out is not so I can get skinny,” she says. “It’s so that I’m not panting on stage.”

4

Her philosophy is to work hard but to treat herself for her efforts. “I have a need to feel like I’ve earned things, so when I have a week of working really hard, I get to have a day or two off – whether it’s from exercise or watching what I eat,” Taylor explains.

5

Taylor guzzles water to flush out her kidneys. “I have so much water in my dressing room – I drink, like, 10 bottles of water a day. But she turns to Starbucks for her daily treat, opting for “skinny vanilla lattes on weekdays” and “spiced pumpkin lattes on weekends”.

Get in the zone

Looking for a fun way to motivate yourself? The Myzone heart rate monitor, used by Strictly lovebirds Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Márquez, turns exercising into a game. By sharing your data in real time on screens at participating gyms or with your friends in the partner app, the MZ-3 adds

a dose of friendly competition to your workouts. The device monitors heart rate, calories burned and time, and converts these into Myzone Effort Points (MEPs), so it gives credit for effort and an accurate view of how effective your session has been. Gemma has been using it to get

back to full fitness after having baby Mia, born in July. But the monitor is also good for complete beginners or gym bunnies looking for new ways of tracking their progress. ■ Priced £129.99, see myzone.org

It was obviously a relief to hear that Louis had no heart or feeding problems, which can come with Down’s. But if he had done, we’d have coped. Louis has always been a happy soul, just like any other little boy. He didn’t walk until he was about three – he just shuffled on his bottom – but that didn’t stop him being accepted into a mainstream nursery when he was two. We wanted him to socialise and make friends and all the staff and the other children accepted him. It was the same deal with his primary school. We chose a mainstream one and he thrived. But what always made me angry was that people who didn’t know about Down’s thought it was terrible and that the children had no life and could never achieve anything. “But what can you expect when you never see them on telly or in adverts – it’s like they don’t exist,” I’d say to everyone. The agency promotes greater diversity in the fashion, beauty and media industries, with models of minority ethnic origin, older people, larger and smaller people and people with disabilities. Karen mentioned Louis to Angel, who got straight on the phone to me.

TV STAR Louis’s first job was opening that show in Shepherd’s Bush, west London. He’s done other adverts and live shows since, with his biggest job being a Back To School advert promoting Sainsbury’s children’s clothes. He played a boy being taken to his first day at school by his big sister. We were so excited about it, but gutted when we realised we’d miss it because it was going to be on TV in August 2015 when we were on holiday in Spain! I was in the kitchen of our holiday villa with the TV tuned to a British channel as Louis helped me make lunch. I was amazed to see the advert come on. “Quick,” I shouted to Jason, who was in the living room. “It’s Louis on the telly.” Jason rushed in, but he was too late.

Five years ago I got pregnant again – Jason and I always wanted four children and having a child with Down’s wasn’t going to put us off that goal. When I refused all tests, the hospital staff were shocked. A consultant even phoned me at home to push the test and I got angry. “I have a son with Down’s and I love him,” I said. “If I have this test, what does it say about Louis?” In the end, Hayden, now five, was born without Down’s and has no other problems. “What was it like seeing yourself?” he I know Louis needs a little extra care and asked Louis. WOMEN’S HEALTH GOES HIGH-TECH From tracking menstrual cycles to easing menopause symptoms, reveals the gadgets helping us transform our lives

I

t’s taken the male-dominated tech industry a long time to produce genuinely useful women’s health products. But at last the tide is turning – out with cringeworthy gizmos such as 2013’s anti-overeating “smart bra” and in with the likes of Elvie’s clever wireless breast pump. Innovations labelled “femtech”, to help manage periods, maximise fertility, ease menopausal symptoms and strengthen pelvic floors muscles, aim to give women better understanding and control of their bodies.

AVA FERTILITY TRACKER Worn at night, the Ava Fertility Tracker (£249, avawomen.com) is a bracelet which monitors signs that alter during a woman’s cycle such as resting pulse, temperature and sleep pattern, to indicate five fertile days a month. With claims of 89 per cent accuracy, data fed to an app helps wearers understand their cycles.

68

MYLOTUS FERTILITY MONITOR The hand-held myLotus monitor (from £149, mylotus. com) measures luteinising hormone concentration in a urine sample to indicate when a woman can get pregnant, helping them to conceive naturally. The monitor gives a precise LH readout which can be tracked by the app. As ovulation occurs within 24 to 36 hours after an LH surge, myLotus is a good option for women with irregular cycles, as well as those who aren’t familiar with their ovulation days. It is particularly aimed at women over 40, when ovulation can be erratic. Many women report speedy results after months and even years of trying to conceive.

GRACE COOLING BRACELET

ELVIE BREAST PUMP

One area where femtech has been slow off the mark is the menopause, but that’s finally starting to change. A new product on the horizon is the Grace tracking and cooling bracelet (gracecooling.com), which hopes to fend off hot flushes day and night. The smart bracelet monitors temperature, detecting an imminent flush before the wearer is even aware it’s on the way, and activating a cooling patch on the wrist. And there’s an app so wearers can track the frequency of their flushes.

Any woman who’s spent hours bent over a noisy breast pump, tethered to electric wires, tubes and a bottle of breast milk, won’t have been surprised that the original batch of Elvie wireless breast pumps (£249, elvie.com) sold out within 24 hours. The silent, wearable pump fits inside a bra and pauses when the boob-hugging “bottle” is full. An optional app monitors milk volume, tracks history and can control the pump remotely. Former Olympic skier Chemmy Alcott even posted on social media about expressing in a ski lift.

MARODYNE LIV

MOONA PILLOW COOLER

INNOVO PELVIC FLOOR TONER

While osteoporosis can affect both sexes, women are more at risk of developing the condition after a hysterectomy, menopause or more than six months of absent periods, all of which can affect bone density. The Marodyne LiV (£2,995, marodyne. co.uk) is a low-intensity vibration device designed to stimulate and regulate the stem cell processes, key to generating tissue, with 10-minute daily sessions. The technique was developed in collaboration with Nasa to help astronauts regain bone density lost during time in space.

The Moona cooling system (£310, getmoona.com) wasn’t designed specifically to help with night sweats, but research has shown that some menopausal women were able to fall asleep more quickly after using it and reported feeling more rested the following morning. The Moona consists of a device which monitors the room’s brightness, humidity and temperature while the water cooler fits inside any pillow to create the ideal temperature around the head and neck.

Urinary incontinence affects one in three women in the UK, usually after childbirth or menopause. The stigma around the subject has meant that many women have assumed there’s nothing to be done except buy incontinence pads and soldier on. But there are a growing number of gadgets designed to help women regain bladder control by strengthening their pelvic floor muscles. Innovo (£249, myinnovo.com) looks like a pair of cycling shorts and contains conductive panels that stimulate muscles.

Used internally, the pelvic floor muscle trainer Pelviva (£199.95 for 15 devices, pelviva.com) is covered in foam that adapts to the shape of the wearer. It uses reactive pulse technology – a type of muscle stimulation – and claims to achieve 25 per cent deeper penetration of pelvic muscles than similar products. The devices are single use, which may be a turn-off for the environmentally conscious, and for maximum effect a month-long programme using one device every other day is recommended.

There’s an app for that...

As well as an increase in femtech gadgets, there are several useful apps aimed at improving women’s health and wellbeing, and many of them are free to download

The Clue period app (helloclue.com) tracks more than 30 details, including skin, hair and sleep, to demystify women’s cycles, predicting fertile windows, PMS and period dates.

CLEMENTINE

Founded by marketing executive Kim Palmer when she started suffering panic attacks, Clementine (clementineapp.co.uk) offers hypnotherapy to improve emotional wellbeing, helping to boost confidence, control anxiety and aid sleep.

NATURAL CYCLES

Used in conjunction with a basal body thermometer, Natural Cycles (naturalcycles.com) is designed as a birth control app, predicting fertile days so women can try to avoid becoming pregnant.

MINDFUL IVF

Meditation app Mindful IVF (mindfulivf.com) is designed to help women at all stages of the IVF process, with daily prescriptions for preparation, initial stages, embryo transfer and the two-week waiting period. The last two steps are paid-for content.

STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER With barely a month to go until the release of the new Star Wars film, popular YouTube star Colin Furze has been challenged by two of the cast, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, to make a real working landspeeder, the form of transport used in the films. Young people from the Children In Need projects will

be getting involved to help him build it, ready for a big reveal in the studio. Even if you’re not a fan of the movies, you can’t fail to be moved by the sheer innovation and creativity shown by youngsters making an actual vehicle from scratch. Let’s hope the force is well and truly with them on appeal night!

STRICTLY COME DANCING

72

What could be better than lifting the Glitterball trophy, we hear you ask? Lifting the Pudsey Glitterball trophy is what! And this year we’ve got four EastEnders stars waltzing in from Walford, hoping their salsas and sambas become pride of the Square. The lucky actors – who’ve no doubt been begging Strictly contestant Emma Barton for tips – are Ricky Champ, Louisa Lytton, Maisie Smith and Rudolph Walker. They’ll be taking to the dance floor live with the pros and will also compete in a group number, in a bid to be crowned the CIN champs.

You might have to ask your parents (or or ackerjack grandparents) about this one, but Crackerjack was the children’s show from the 1950s 0s right through to the 80s. Long before the Teletubbies and Mr Tumble were a twinkle in their creators’ eyes, Crackerjack was bringing games, comedy and music to kids across the country. It’s getting a revamp in 2020, hosted by Sam and Mark, and they’ll give us a little taster of what’s to come in the CIN studio, no doubt with lots of stunts – and lots of slime!

THE ENGLAND FOOTBALL TEAM VISIT Last year, The Three Lions got agonisingly close to World Cup glory and as a result became role models for millions of children across the country. On appeal night, three of the standout players – Marcus Rashford, Raheem Sterling and captain Harry Kane – will join Mark Wright (who’s not too shabby on the pitch himself) in surprising kids from the England Amputee Football Association. If you thought losing to Croatia last summer was a tearjerker, wait until you see the work this charity does supporting these brave little ones.

DOING IT FOR THE KIDS!

ZONEIN ZONEI

TV Q&A

This year’s Children In Need appeal is broadcast live next Friday. Here’s what to expect, from the best segments within the show, to host Graham Norton’s pick of the night

‘I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE STRICTLY SPECIAL!’ THE HIT LIST Marvin and Rochelle Humes will welcome artists who have previously performed on official CIN singles to this special edition of the quiz show, to test their pop knowledge. Hoping to beat the buzzer in this modern-day version of Guess The Intro are hip-hop artist Wretch 32 and former JLS member JB Gill, Sugababe Heidi Range and Girls Aloud’s Nadine Coyle, plus Michelle Heaton from Liberty X and Blue’s Antony Costa. No pressure guys, but you should all ace this particular subject!

GOT IT COVERED

The Got It Covered documentary was broadcast prior to the live show, but some of the stars involved will be in the studio on the night to talk about their experience of the project. And what a project it was! Basically, a whole bunch of ridiculously famous people got together to record an album of bespoke cover versions for CIN. So if you want to see Olivia Colman put her Oscar to one side and take to the mic or Doctor Who’s Jodie Whittaker paying homage to Coldplay, or even Hollywood heavyweight Helena Bonham Carter cranking out a Joni Mitchell classic, this is the segment for you.

Graham Norton is back on CIN hosting duty, alongside Mel Giedroyc. Here, he reveals why he loves doing the show – and why he’s particularly excited about this year’s EastEnders offering... You’re back again, Graham! What’s your favourite part of presenting the live show? It’s a joy to be reunited with Mel and to hear the extraordinary stories of hard work and courage from all over the country. Why is Children In Need so special to you? It’s one of those rare occasions when the whole

country is inspired to join together to support some truly inspirational causes. Do you have any standout moments from previous years? I’ve always enjoyed the EastEnders musical numbers, so I can’t wait to see what moves they’ve got in store in the Strictly special this year. A huge amount of money was raised in 2018. Do you think it’s possible to do the same again? It seems impossible, but we can dream. After all, that’s what CIN is all about. The BBC Children In Need Appeal night returns to BBC One on Friday 15 November

During the emotional show, the pair discuss the singer’s life in the public eye, his high-profile relationships – including his romance with Cheryl Tweedy – and being a father to their son Bear. Ant assures us we’re in for a treat and reveals some of Liam’s revelations will “shock” viewers. Here, he talks Liam, Chez and why he can’t veg out watching TV… Hi Ant. Were you a fan of Liam before this experience? I’d met Liam before, but I can’t say I was a fan of One Direction because it wasn’t my era. Even when people tell me about people, I like to make my own decisions. I give people the respect of taking them by face value. So I didn’t have any planned questions – I just wanted to get to know Liam. He is so young to have so much life experience.

Liam spills about Cheryl on the show

You use interrogation tactics on SAS: Who Dares Wins. Did that skill help when interviewing Liam? It didn’t take much grilling. He’s very open to conversation. That just goes to show the type of guy Liam is. I did enhance on a few areas, but he’s very unafraid of himself and happy. He’s got this attitude of, “It is what it is.” I was refreshingly surprised by how open he was and that made for better conversation. I think why he was so open was because he knew I could relate. I’ve been there on the other side of the spectrum. What do you talk about then? Everything from the beginning to the now – relationships, girlfriends, marriage, Bear, One Direction, his solo career now. I had a real insight into his life. I mean everything! He’s had some real personal struggles and hurdles to overcome in life. Some things he’s going to talk about are quite shocking. It’s very brutal, open and honest. Ooh. Tell us more… Ha, ha. No, I can’t. You’ll have to watch the show, but what I can tell you is we covered everything. I think a lot of people will get a lot of positives out of it. Does he go into the ins and outs of his relationship with Cheryl? Yep! [Breaks into fits of laughter] He sure does. He’s really open about it. He’s not afraid to let us know what he’s been doing and how things are. Did filming this style of show push you out of your comfort zone? Yeah, this is a completely different show to what I’m used to. You’ll see a completely different Ant Middleton. People are used to the screamy, shouty guy and that’s just my military side. I’ve been through so much myself. That’s why it’s great to relate to these people. You nearly died climbing Mount Everest in 2018. Has that changed your outlook on life? Yeah, don’t climb any mountains during storms! I did that to show a bit of grit and

THE OH! ZONE Britain’s Got Talent magician Richard Jones on sucking up to David Walliams and returning to the show where he found fame

THE LAST SHOW I BINGE-WATCHED was Bates Motel. It’s terrifying, but good at the same time. I think I’m starting to like horror stuff. THE FUNNIEST PERSON ON TV is David Walliams – he’ll like that. He’s a great guy. I’D LOVE TO DUE DUET WITH Taylor Swift, if you can sort that ou out for me. I think she’s been avoiding me… THE LAST ALB ALBUM I DOWNLOADED was Drake’s latest offering, Scorpion. I saw him at The Jingl Jingle Bell Ball previously. He’s a great eentertainer. A SH SHOW I NEVER MISSED was Brita Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions. Is th that a boring answer? I loved do doing it, it was really emotional. Go Going back and seeing how m many people are involved in pputting that show together w was really overwhelming. THE BEST FILM EVER MADE is Titanic. I’ve watched it about six times all the way through and it gets me every time. THE APP I USE MOST is weekend.com. If you want to get away and do something, there are loads of wicked destinations on there at the click of a button.

‘THIS SHOW COULD HAVE BEEN SO CHEESY!’ Twinkle-toed love guru Ashley Banjo brings us a new series of Flirty Dancing

T

he Banjo is back, fronting the show that sees singles looking for love through dance, in an unexpectedly brilliant hybrid of Blind Date and Strictly. Now in its second series, Flirty Dancing can take credit for several successful love matches, although Ash, 31, worried it could have been a very different story. Here, he reveals why… Were you surprised by all the love series one got? I was, actually. When you first tell people about the concept they think it’s got a lot of potential, but it’s also got a lot of potential to be a bit cheesy, too. But I think people were surprised by what the show was and how beautiful it was. I was over the moon that people liked it. Will any of the Diversity crew be joining you again? Absolutely. We couldn’t do it

without them. We’ve got three of the girls, Starr, Georgia and Morgan, and then we’ve got Perri, Warren, Nathan and Chris. So throughout the series you’ll see loads of the group. Do you and the singles ever disagree about the routines? It’s my vision, but at the same time Ash says chemistry is important

ZONEOUT ZO With wife Francesca and daughter Rose

FIL I love the saying, “Two heads are better than one.” I would ask the girls, “How would you feel if a guy did this move?” and I’d ask the guys, “Is this too much or do you think he could do more?” I talk it all through and come up with the movements, but they’re the best, most experienced sounding board. We put our heads together to create the perfect date. When you’re watching the dance dates, are you watching for the moves or the chemistry? Chemistry, every time. Of course I know that they want to get the moves right, but it’s all about the chemistry. Put it this way – the moves without the chemistry will always look good, but chemistry without the moves will always be better. Are any of the couples from the first series still dating? Yes, there are a couple of them who are still dating and a lot of them are still in touch, which is exciting. You met your wife Francesca dancing. Can you remember what music you were grooving to that day? It probably would have been an old-school hip-hop track. I’m not sure, but nothing classically romantic – something by Notorious BIG, I imagine! What was your first dance at your wedding – and did you choreograph it? We danced to a song called I Do by Boyz II Men. We love R&B and boybands, and Boyz II Men are the best boyband ever – the song was just perfect. We didn’t choreograph it, we just danced around for a little bit… which was nice! Flirty Dancing, Fridays, 8pm, Channel 4

M

THE IRISHMAN STARRING: ROBERT DE NIRO, AL PACINO, JOE PESCI CERT: 18 WHAT’S IT ABOUT? It’s 1950s America and World War II veteran Frank Sheeran (De Niro) finds himself working for mob boss Russell Bufalino (Pesci). He hones his craft as a hitman over the years, rising up the ranks of the mafia to become an enforcer, as well as working with Jimmy Hoffa (Pacino), a union boss with links to organised crime. But it’s not long before the two men clash…

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT? Don’t be scared by the 209-minute running time, and don’t dismiss the much-discussed anti-ageing technology too quickly. This epic

gangster yarn flies by, and the magic that is CGI means you could legitimately mistake De Niro, Pacino and Pesci – combined age 231 – for young men in the early scenes. Fans of director Martin Scorsese will correctly hail this his best work in years and having arguably the greatest actors of all time in one film cements this as a legitimate masterpiece. And the best bit? Just two weeks after its cinema release, it’ll be ready to stream on your TVs… via the medium of Netflix (and thrill).

VERDICT: LEGENDS ASSEMBLE FOR THIS EPIC CRIME CAPER

VANESSA BANISHES HER DIET DEMONS ROMANCE IS ICING ON THE CAKE

Vanessa Feltz is the first to admit she’s one of the nation’s most famous yo-yo dieters, but judging by her svelte appearance at the Pride of Britain Awards, she’s finally conquered her demons. FOREVER FRIENDS

78

Jen has ruled out a new series of the show. And despite my excitement, I think it’s for the best. While the new Cold Feet works because it’s always been about angst and relationships, the magic of Friends was to do with them laughing through their twenties in an incredible (and unaffordable) flatshare. Twenty-five years on, that might not be so magical.

If you’re not following Geri Horner on Instagram, then I suggest you start. Her slightly bonkers but endearing posts have garnered her more than a million followers – and so pleased is she with her success, she’s reportedly decided she wants to become the UK’s answer to Gwyneth Paltrow. The first step in Geri’s masterplan is to boost her YouTube channel by offering us unsuspecting Brits wellbeing advice, cooking tips and, I imagine, general Geri-isms about life. I’m not sure the world actually needs another Gwyneth, but there’s no denying she’s made a mint out of her mix of pseudo-science and philosophical ramblings on Goop. If there’s one woman in this country who can get away with telling us to steam our vaginas, try out goat’s milk cleanses and walk around barefoot, then it’s Geri!

PHOTOS: Getty

I’m not the biggest fan of our favourite TV shows getting reboots and I’ve long argued that bringing the cast of Friends back together would be a big mistake. But I have to admit, I’ve been wavering ever since Jennifer Aniston posted that picture on Instagram a couple of weeks ago of the legendary six-some hanging out. Now she’s stoked it even further by telling Ellen DeGeneres, “We would love for there to be something, but we don’t know what that something is. So we’re just trying. We’re working together on something.” Before you get too excited,
