FASPS is very excited to be offering a number of exciting enrichment classes for our students for the Fall 2023 School Year. These classes are for Wednesday, September 6, 2023 – Friday, December 15, 2023

Please read class dates and times carefully!

Students in Enrichment classes should be picked up within 15 minutes of the end of their class, unless they are registered for Garderie after activities or yearlong Garderie registration.

Homework Help for grades 3-5 is available Monday through Friday and is led by French-speaking faculty/staff.

If your student is registered for Yearlong Garderie, you can use the code FALL100 to allocate $100 from Garderie fees to Class fees.

NOODLE PLAY

DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS

In this class, we’ll be exploring collaborative storytelling through Dungeons and Dragons. Along the way, we’ll develop social and emotional skills that will serve us well outside of the RPG.

MINDFUL MOVEMENT

A preschool mindful movement class inspired by the fun, imaginative, and intelligent minds of children. This class is based on the most recent research on the benefits of mindfulness in children and infused with music, breathing, books, sensory exploration, and FUN! Our class is an equal balance between active and passive poses and incorporates song, dance, and time for sharing, reflection, and relaxation.

This class takes a comprehensive approach to piano/ keyboard study. Students will learn keyboard skills and music theory basics by playing popular tunes and familiar nursery rhymes. CREATIVE DANCE

Join Tiffany Bierly from the Creative Dance Center for a dance class that supports joyful self-expression! Students explore the patterns of BrainDance, dance concepts such as Energy, Rhythm, and Pathways, and practice movement skills. Rolling, swinging, leaping, jumping, turning – creative dance builds a foundation for body awareness, coordination, and motor development! Social-emotional skills are strengthened as dancers collaborate to create dances using the building blocks of choreographic forms. Students take an active role in their own learning to become skilled dancers and choreographers in this class that celebrates personal uniqueness.

ADVENTURES IN PROGRAMMING

Students adventure through code as they begin exploring coding fundamentals by making games and animations using block-based coding in software such as Pencilcode, Scratch, Kodu and more. Due to high demand, Little Chefs registration is completed on a priority basis. In order to give everyone the equal opportunity to participate in this class, priority is given to students who have not participated in Little Chefs within the previous 3 trimesters. If your student was enrolled in Little Chefs in Fall of 2022, Winter 2022, or Spring 2023, they are NOT ELIGIBLE to register in Fall 2023 and their registration will be cancelled.

Come whip, stir, and chop in this hands-on cooking class. Students explore different foods, traditions, and flavors from around the world while learning to become properly and safely familiar and comfortable in the kitchen. We provide local, all natural and organic products when available. Most dietary restrictions can be accommodated. No promises made, but I hope they make it home for sharing.

Let’s get active after-school! In this class for kids, we’ll play a different, carefully chosen sport or active game every single session. Students will put their bodies in motion and release surplus energy in a way that will help them be more present during the school day and at home. They’ll develop functional movement patterns that will make them more effective and boost their self-esteem for other sports. Along the way, they’ll practice teamwork, communication, and emotional selfregulation skills that will help them everywhere, not just on the field or court. It’s sure to be a great time!

In this master artist focused clay class, we will study the works of famous pieces and different clay types from around the world while making our own pottery in our unique styles. Students will use a variety of traditional tools, glazes, and techniques to complete their work. Students will make the pottery pieces in one week and glaze the following to ensure their pieces are fired correctly.

WEIRD NATURE SCIENCE

Have you ever wanted to be a scientist? Or to increase your understanding of the natural world? Well, you’re in luck! In this class, we’ll be learning about physics and the natural world through fun, easy science experiments that you can take home. We’ll learn about states of matter through building volcanos; we’ll learn about sound through creating ‘naturally occurring’ speakers. It’s the perfect activity if you love science, nature, engineering, or just making things blow up.

MUSIC PRODUCTION

Have you ever wanted to make your own music like the professionals? In this exciting hands-on class, students will dive into music-making the fun way! Using state-of-the-art music production equipment and a digital audio workstation on the computer, students will learn the ins and outs of music recording & production with their own private in-school digital music studios. Through creating their very own musical masterpiece, students learn basic music theory, simple chord structures, and rhythmic patterns. They can record real instruments or have thousands of software instruments and audio samples available in just a few clicks. By the end of each term, students will bring home soundtracks that they made from scratch or DJ remixes built on existing samples!

YOUNG AUTHORS

Create your own book from start to finish in French, including original illustrations. We will start by exploring and analyzing a popular book. Then, we will follow the same structure to build individuals stories of about 10 pages. The original illustrations will be made with different materials.

THEATRE AND IMPROV

New! Do you love acting and want to learn how to improvise like a pro? Our Theater and Improv (Yes And) class is the perfect place to start! In this course, students will explore the fundamentals of improvisational theater and learn how to think on their feet. You’ll develop your acting skills through fun exercises and games, as well as learn the art of “Yes And” – a technique that encourages collaboration and creativity. Whether you’re a seasoned actor or a beginner, this class will help you develop your confidence and creativity on stage. We’ll also get to do some stage design. No previous experience is necessary – just bring your willingness to play and have fun!
