The event takes places every year and is in memory of Peter Miller, Jason Bogle, David Aluli and Jeff Barbieto with 100% of proceeds from the sale of donation tickets going to four non profit organizations; Surf the Nations, Hawai’i Meth Project, Boys and Girls Club of Kailua and Hope Chapel Kaneohe Bay youth group. First place winners in all 5 divisions (Kai Phung, Junior Boys age 14-16, Casper O’neill, Boys age 10-13, Riley Pardini, Girls age 10-16, Asher Sprecher, Boys & Girls age 7-9 and Lucca Bacci, Super Groms boys & girls age 6-under) each went home with a brand new surfboard from HIC, Wade Tokoro and Gordon Hansen. Moku Hosts 1st Annual Long Beach Longboard Classic Not since the 1960’s has Long Beach been home to a traditional vintage long board competition, but on Saturday, September 13th, 60 participants made surfing history using only single fin long boards. Contestants, who ranged in age from nine to 65, were scored by classic contest criteria such as nose rides, hanging ten, cheater fives, drop knee turns, fin first takeoffs, spinners, length of ride and cross-stepping style and extra points will be scored for riding vintage logs with no leashes. Surfing Hall of Famer, Claude Codgen was among the competition’s judging panel. MOKU Surf is the only Hawaiian style surf shop in the New York metropolitan area. It carries a large selection of classic and performance style long and short surfboards, fishes and hybrids, along with several clothing lines, unique gifts and accessories. Many of MOKU’s surfboards are hand shaped in Hawai’i and there is a unique collection of vintage surfboards on display for the viewing public.
