The trick to identifying birds is knowing which details are key to confirming the species. But you need to know what to look for first! Bird identification starts with a simple road map. Northlands Association for Special Recreation (NASR) is a cooperative partnership between the Rockford, Freeport and Belvidere Park Districts (referred to as a member district). NASR programs are open to any individual with disability-related special needs such as physical, mental and developmental disabilities and persons with mental illness, behavior disorders, and visual and hearing impairments.

Member district residents are invited to participate in specialty/ therapeutic (TR) programs offered through any member district at the resident rate. For participation in Inclusion Services at a member district other than your own member district, you must pay the non-resident rate for that program.

NASR’s Got Talent

Calling all dancers, actors, singers, magicians, jugglers, joke-tellers - the possibilities are endless. If you’ve got a talent, this program is for you! Participate in NASR’s Got Talent Show for prizes, awards, and a chance to be a star. There will be refreshments and tons of talent. Judges will vote for their favorite acts to determine who will be this year’s most talented star. NOTE: The event is free for performers/audience/family members to attend, but a $1 per person donation is recommended. Transportation is NOT provided. There will be a dress rehearsal. Location: Nordloff Center

NASR Bowling Tournament

Strike it big at NASR’s 13th Annual Bowling Tournament! Bowlers will compete in 2 games and be placed on lanes based on bowling average and age. If you are not a regular bowler, please indicate skill level when registering and let us know if you will utilize a ramp to bowl. Pizza, awards, door prizes, bowling, shoes, and tons of fun are included in the fee. Transportation will NOT be provided to this event. Location: Don Carter Lanes

NASR Fall Fun Day

Enjoy the Fall weather and changing leaves by spending the day with your NASR friends. Join us for games, tie-dye, campfires, and much more! You’ll even get to cook your lunch over the campfire.

Eggstravaganza

Outside the Krape Park Community Building we’ll be making fun crafts. Then, we’ll walk over to the to the Commissioners Garden for an Easter egg hunt.

Night Under the Stars

Come socialize and dance the night away at an unforgettable prom night experience! A light snack will be provided. Participants and accompanying staff members are encouraged to dress formally.

Bowling Buddies

Spend the afternoon bowling and maybe even make a new friend at Bowling Buddies! Perfect your game for the upcoming Special Olympics season or simply come out to have a good time. Location: Freeport Lanes
