447 132080/149 Federal mahogany inlaid sideboard philadelphia, pa, late 18th/early 19th century Serpentine front with three varisized drawers above four curved drawers on square tapering legs, pencil line inlay to drawers, doors and legs, dart and panel inlay to bottom edge of case, old oval brasses with bails. H: 41 in. W: 56 1/2 in. D: 25 in. provenance: Property from a prominent Chestnut Hill Collection.

note: Typed note and letter accompanying early photograph of the sideboard (see above) reads: “Sideboard belonged to Staats Morris (brother of Lewis Morris, a signer of the Declaration of Independence) and his wife, widow of Richard Brooks Robers and original member of the Order of the Cincinnati. Staats Morris was my g. grandmothers’ step-father. She was a Roberts. At the death of Staats and his wife, the sideboard was inherited by one of their daughters. May have been Blendina. Her daughter gave it to my mother and father when they were married in 1879. Been in our possession ever since. (Signed) Sophia Gray Armitage.” $5,000-7,000
