From mid-August, Fig Tree Heights residents will enjoy unrivalled access to Fig Tree Park, the flourishing heart of this vibrant new precinct.

Designed by award winning Landscape Architects CUSP, this 5,000sqm+ of green space features statement fig trees sited thoughtfully throughout the park, with intimate garden spaces dotted around the oval providing shaded spots to relax and mingle. There are numerous spaces for gatherings and events in the park, providing ample room for multiple groups to enjoy the open spaces simultaneously.

The park is the perfect destination for family gatherings and kids’ parties, with shaded state-of-the-art playground equipment for all ages, walking tracks – ideal for pram access or to ride a balance bike, a kick and throw area and generously scaled shelters with picnic tables and seating.

The Yoga Lawn across the wooden boardwalk will attract morning and evening yogi for a mindfulness rendezvous, along with fitness fanatics running their own bootcamp using the outdoor fitness equipment and walking track.

Come and join us for the grand opening of Brookhaven’s Fig Tree Park & Display Village on Saturday 13 August from 10am to 2pm.

Visit some of Queensland’s best builders as we celebrate the opening of their stylish display homes. Then enjoy all the free fun in the new Fig Tree Park across the road.

There’ll be live music from Buttered, Tom Mac and Hailey Calvert. Delicious food trucks from everyone’s favourites – Benz on Miller, CharKOR BBQ and Yes Chef along with free gelato and coffee carts.

Ranger Stacey will be putting on her famous Wildlife Shows at 11am and 12:30pm showcasing some adorable Australian animals. There will also be free Australiana craft activities, face painting, First5Forever storytelling corner, balloon twisting for the kids, and Sip and Paint Workshops for the adults. You can even get your very own caricature done!

Then inside the nine display homes from Metricon, Coral Homes, Brighton Homes, G.J. Gardner Homes, DC Living, Evoca Homes and Neptune Homes there will be a host of free activations so be sure to pop in and check them out.

Fig Tree Park’s playground will challenge little and big ones with: • 5.7m high climbing structure with slide • Triple access to the top via the coconut rope bridge, the inclined rubber wall, or the internal net • A double bay swing which features a nest swing that can hold as many kids that are willing to get on!

• A see-saw and spinner for the smallest toddlers

Other design features: • Feature sandstone paving at key locations • Stone clad walls identifying the park entries • Drinking fountain • Fully accessible path network • Sandstone bush steps providing an alternate way to access the lookout • Low sandstone walls provide plentiful informal seating opportunities throughout the park

Fourfold Studios is working alongside Frasers Property Community Development Manager, Marion Allard in establishing a new residents group within the Brookhaven community, scheduled to be fully operational by the end of this year.

Tell us a bit about you and what Fourfold Studios does?

Fourfold Studio are experts in placemaking, activation and engagement. We coordinate projects that support vibrant community places that reflect an authentic place identity and are loved, cared for and activated by local people and businesses. We put local people at the centre of everything we do and are looking forward to working with the Brookhaven locals.

What is the vision and priorities for the Brookhaven Residents Group?

The formation of the Brookhaven Residents Group is an important next step in establishing a self-sustaining and social neighbourhood. Our approach seeks to leverage the existing momentum of the amazing community that is taking shape and work with representatives to explore opportunities for residents to get involved in the planning and delivery of future projects, events and activations.

Who are you hoping to attract?

The ideal candidate will love getting out and about and connecting with other members of the community, getting hands on in the delivery of projects, and aspire to play an active role in shaping what projects, activities and initiatives happen in Brookhaven.

They will enjoy working collaboratively with other resident group members, Frasers Property and local stakeholders.

We are hoping to appoint a group of up to 20 members initially, requiring the personal contribution of approximately 8 hours per month.

What is the recruitment process?

Frasers Property are currently inviting all residents within Brookhaven to put forward an application for the Brookhaven Residents Group online before August 8. To ensure a fair and transparent process for assigning resident group membership, Harriett and myself have appointed an independent panel that include a range of stakeholders who do not have a day-

to-day role in the management of the Brookhaven estate. This panel will individually assess all applications using a weighted criteria framework which will be collated, and the successful applicants will be communicated to Frasers Property.

What happens then?

Marion will contact the successful applicants directly and invite them to attend a series of three workshops.

During these sessions the collective will first discuss the ongoing management and governance of the group, and once established, identify and select their first project.

Would there be other opportunities to get involved?

Absolutely. The appointed group will develop opportunities for how other members of the community can get involved without being a full resident group member. This may include developing different sub-committees or having opportunities for residents to volunteer for different events or activations.

MEET BENTLEY

Brookhaven’s Youngest Entrepreneur Brookhaven’s youngest entrepreneur, nine-year-old Bentley, is making a name for himself by selling bottles of ‘worm wee’ to the local community.

Bentley acquired his first worm farm almost 6 months ago after being inspired by the worm farms at his school, Canterbury College.

Once he realised how nutrient rich the worm wee was, he started selling it to residents to use as fertiliser for their gardens at $2 a bottle.

After selling over 80 bottles in the first two weeks, he reinvested his profits and bought another worm farm. Bentley now has 4 worm farms and over 4000 worms to look after.

He checks on his worms morning and night, feeding them up to 4kg of food scraps every week. Caring for his worms and running his worm wee business is a lot of work, so he has recruited his sister to help on weekends.

Bentley uses recycled milk bottles collected from the community to bottle worm wee and provides refills for his regulars.

We encourage any avid gardeners to reach out to Bentley and make a worm wee order via the Brookhaven Facebook Residents Group.

Frasers Property is proud to be partnering with Bentley’s Worm Wee to ensure the new Brookhaven community garden is thriving.

A buzzing start of the school holidays Our first kids-only bee experience was a real success with more than 30 kids, aged 8 to 15 joining our beekeeper, Jack Stone for a unique in-hive experience, before learning the craft of beeswax candle making. It was wonderful to see their sense of curiosity grow as they uncovered honeybees inside the hives, and they had a lot of fun spotting the queen bee.
