Active: a fully initiated member or a fraternity or sorority Alumna(e): an initiated member or a fraternity or sorority that has left the collegiate Greek system

Bid: an invitation to become a New Member of a sorority Chapter: refers to an individual fraternity or sorority house; chapter names are different on all college campuses

Greek:: a member of a sorority or fraternity Hazing: any activity that is required of an Associate or New member that is not required of an Active Member

Legacy: a potential member of a sorority who is a daughter or sister of a member of a Greek organization

National: a term referring to the central organization of a given sorority or fraternity

NPC: (National Panhellenic Council) a conference composed of 26 national sororities

New Member: a member of a fraternity or sorority who has not yet been initiated

Panhellenic: the coordinating body of sororities on a college campus Pin: (two types) the active pin is worn on the chest designating an

active member of a certain Greek organization; a New Member pin is used to designate a New Member and is not as elaborate

Potential New Member: (PNM) a person participating in Recruitment or interested in becoming part of the Greek System

Quota: the maximum number of New Members that a sorority or fraternity can take during Fall Formal Recruitment

Rec: (Recommendation) a written recommendation for a Potential Member from an alumna(e) of a chapter

Recruitment: a mutual selection process where chapters seek New
