Backstamps and Marks As with most ceramic firms there are seemingly endless backstamps and types of marks used over the duration of the life of a pottery. What I have included here are the basic types you are most likely to come across. All or most of these will have variations in design. You will also find that there are various methods of making the marks with some marks using several methods, these can vary from the use of transfer prints, handpainting, impressed or stamping the marks into the body, moulded marks and rubber stamped ink marks. In the past ten years there has been a growing demand for personalised special backstamps often designed by the commissioning agents. Wade & Co., Union Pottery, Burslem 1887-1927
