Dear IFMSA-Family, Dear SCORAngels, Dear Fatima, Ieva and Mariona, My name is Francisco Duarte and I am a 5th Year Medical Student from the beautiful city of snow, CovilhĂŁ (Portugal). I come before you to apply to be the next SCORA Regional Assistant for Europe for the term of 2020/2021. Well, looking back 4 years, I would never imagine being here today writing this. I cannot precisely point to the exact moment I started working in SCORA because SRHR has always been a big part of my life journey and inner personal discovery. Despite that, college allowed me a safe space to grow my wings and dedicate the last four years doing something that brings light to my life. That is, advocating for better SRHR for the future and capacitating students and the community to be empowered to fight for them. After several years of participating in activities that targeted the community for the avoidance of risky behaviours regarding alcohol, drugs and sexual activity, along with a passage as member of the OC for our beautiful SCORA XChange, as a participant for the SXC-RO and as NORA for my NMO, I now feel ready, capable and willing to take a step further in advocacy and spread my wings on an international setting. Since January, I have worked closely with and paid attention to all of the SCORA IT work, particularly closer to our RA work (and let me say, wow). I started to get that tingle whenever RA was mentioned. What do I intend to do? I hope to make IFMSA a closer structure to NMOs and their students, aiming for better exposure of the SCORA work and journey in each region, specifically Europe, while developing our tiny European SCORA Family. COVID-19 made us look at the world in a different way: it brought us closer together and it tore us apart at the same time. When looking around, we can see people screaming for SRHR to be respected and fought for. Gender-based violence, specifically domestic violence, has increased during the COVID-19 Lockdown. SOGIESC laws and rights are threatened by the rising extreme right-wing parties all around Europe. It is our job as young leaders and future healthcare providers to fight and advocate for justice and equality, including keeping everyone free from harm and free to love who they want. Together with that in mind, we must aim to inform and capacitate young people to be the advocates of tomorrow. It is our duty to advocate and fight for the ones who no longer can. Looking at our European political climate, it is extremely important that we have priorities that help us tackle these issues and capacitate our members to create campaigns, activities and projects that allow us to evolve in SRHR. So, right now you must be wondering: why is he interested in being the next SCORA RA for Europe? My vision is that if we can improve our National Officers resources and training, associating them with constant work for our Regional and Global Priorities, we will therefore allow them to nationally work better and increase the visibility of SCORA (SRHR topics). What does this lead to? We are creating new generations of tiny Angels that will spread their wings and advocate in years to come, putting IFMSA and Medical Students in the center of discussion, allowing all of us to have a voice in discussion, seated at the table with the grown-ups. And that must be the goal of every member of the SCORA IT. I would like to end by saying thank you for your work throughout the last years and for your candidatures. I believe you will take us to the next level when it comes to advocacy. I appreciate the time you took to read my candidature and I hope we can discuss it further shortly. Beijinhos, #inSCORAwedontjudgeweembrace

Plan of Action

This section should be read accordingly to the 3 Pillars I will present here:

1. Global and Regional Priorities Work 2. Angels Engagement and Capacity Building 3. Transregional and Joint NMOs Collaboration

NMO 1. National Priorities - assess the needs of NMOs (i.e. a needs assessment in the beginning of the term) and develop the RA work around these needs, as well as the IFMSA Global and Regional Priorities. 2. NORAs Capacity Building - as we should all work together, I want to potentiate the European SCORA Family. With the implementation of monthly NORAs OLMs (in which they are invited to bring on a different LORA each time) we can achieve this goal. Similarly, through the assistance of submission of activities to the SCORA Programs, we can try to connect NMOs that are tackling the same focus areas and topics to join forces and improve their activities. At the same time, we can reinforce the importance of submitting activities to IFMSA Programs as a tool that allows visibility, quality and funding improvements. For this Family to work and evolve, Mental Health should be taken care of, so a Buddy System can be implemented. 3. Regional Power - invest in one or two SWG where NORAs, LORAs and members can get together to cooperate and develop European SCORA campaigns. Continue the development of NW20, taking into consideration the logistical restrictions imposed by COVID-19. Reflect on the organization and format of NW21, through the beginning of the creation of standardized regulations for its OC. Further develop the European Policy Documents Database started last term, including exploring the potential that SCORA Policy Documents can have in national and regional advocacy initiatives.

EuroTeam 1. Regional Priorities Development - assess the Regional Priorities and the strategy of the RD and develop a plan which tackles the Regional Priorities from a SCORA perspective (i.e. if Health Workforce is once again a priority, explore the topic of Gender Equality in Healthcare settings and Sexual Harassment in the workplace environment). 2. EuRegMe21 - coordinate the SCORA Sessions, through the SCORA Sessions’ Team, allowing members to give previous input on topics they feel the need to be focused on and have a back-up plan in case the COVID-19 Pandemic does not allow for a physical event. 3. Regional Teams - collaborate and participate in discussions to help improve RA work with National Officers in the different regions. Promote a working environment that accounts for equality and freedom in opinion, as well as the use of non-discriminatory, non-offensive and inclusive language.

SCORA IT 1. AWP - develop a comprehensive and goal-targeted AWP and help ensure it is accomplished, according to the priorities. To ensure the communication between members, as well as transparency, I will make sure to do short updates on the work developed to the rest of the SCORA IT.

2. Material Development - assist the IT and possible SWGs, taking into consideration the SCORA-D strategy to improve the quality of and access to SCORA X-Changes (manuals creation), including the SCORA General Manual and the Handover file, so members can have updated and modernized guidelines and references for their activities and projects. 3. Teamwork - actively participate in OLM and in the projects developed during the term, contributing with ideas, suggestions and inputs to improve the quality of the SCORA IT work. Integrate SWGs to organize campaigns and activities centralized in the SCORA IT. Particularly engage with the SCORA DA ME in order to identify less active SCORA NMOs and encourage them to take part in discussions and allow them to grow their wings.

SCORA RAs 1. Transregional Campaigns - create and be a member of a SWG to organize advocacy moments between regions. Sometimes, different regions are working and tackling the same topic. I believe in the power of unity, so I propose that we join together to develop powerful and meaningful campaigns (i.e. joint campaign on SOGIESC Rights and Politics). 2. Open Space Discussions - allow transregional webinars to capacitate the regions with different perspectives from SCORA worldwide. As an example, if a region lacks knowledge on MHASA and focuses less on this areas, RAs and NMOs with experience on it can help by providing tools to that region on that specific focus area. 3. SCORA RA Team - create trimester discussions with the other SCORA RAs to realize common ground problems that could be tackled transregionally

External Representation 1. LRA Collaboration and Regional External Representation Develop a Stakeholder Map of European SCORA Stakeholders and explore which partnerships would most benefit the members, the materials developed by the region and the growth of the SCORA advocacy goals; Support the LRA in establishing new European SCORA Partnerships. Assist the LRA in IFMSA Delegations in European SRHR Events and in the development and coordination of SWG for the generation and revision of Policy Documents; Furthermore, it is important to analyze the impact of each Policy Document and see how members can most benefit from them. Incorporate Gender Equity and less worked focus areas and topics in the external work. 2. Regional Empowerment Help Angels locating national and international stakeholders (mapping and contacting) that allow them to increase their quality and funding for activities, as well as their advocacy efforts; Identify Regional and National SRHR priorities and discussions and assist NMOs in contacting stakeholders for better and more powerful advocacy. 3. Global Village Concept Disseminate information through the IFMSA channels, Facebook and WhatsApp Groups so Angels can easily apply for IFMSA Delegations and participate in SCORA External Events, allowing them to look up for new opportunities and scholarships.

Work Ethic & Availability People can usually see reflected in my work 3 different qualities: transparency, organization and objectivity. This way, I ensure deadlines will be met, active participation will occur and reports will be elaborated for the SCORA IT, NORAs and Members so that they can be aware of the work developed.
