JK&T Wings Honors Soldiers Killed at Afghan Airport

Aterrorist attack at the airport in Kabul, Afghanistan, on Aug. 26 as the United States was withdrawing troops from the country killed 13 U.S. service members, and the unique way that a Buffalo Wild Wings® sports bar chose to mark the loss quickly spread to dozens more locations.

“Many guests have taken pictures, thanked our team members and spoken about the importance of the soldiers’ remembrance.”

– Jon Grayeb,

director of marketing for JK&T Wings

A BWW® owned by franchise company JK&T Wings honored the 13 service members by reserving a table and putting an American flag and 13 full beer glasses around it. “Once one of our locations sent us a picture of the table that they set up, and our team saw it, we thought it was a great idea and wanted to do it across the board in all our units,” said Jon Grayeb, director of marketing for JK&T Wings.

The company, which operates 93 BWW sports bars, quickly put its teams into action, and all 92 others soon followed suit.

All 93 of the Buffalo Wild Wings sports bars of JK&T Wings honored the 13 U.S. soldiers killed Aug. 26 during a terrorist attack at the airport in Kabul, Afghanistan.

“It was important because it shows our unity within our communities.”

– Jon Grayeb

“We received a bunch of positive feedback from team members and guests,” Grayeb said. “Many guests have taken pictures, thanked our team members and spoken about the importance of the soldiers’ remembrance.”

It was a remarkable bit of coordination to pass the word to each location. The displays were created at each location with minimal notice. Team members stepped up to make it happen during their otherwise busy schedules and delivered great results, Grayeb said.

“It was important because it shows our unity within our communities. It can be forgotten that community members running the local sports bar could have ties to the military, and this was a small gesture to show that we stand with them,” he added.
