Trushel re-elected president of Ag Society Ed Trushel was re-elected president of the Carroll County Agricultural Society (fairboard) during the annual reorganizational meeting Dec. 9 at Atwood Resort and Golf Club. Kevin Host was elected vice president. Tammy Sanderson and Margaret Mesler were hired as secretary and treasurer respectively. Trushel has served as president of the group for many years. Host was elected vice president for the first time, replacing Jim Long. Trushel expressed his appreciation to Ruth Ann Tinlin and Vern Pearson, who both were in attendance, for their many years of service to the board as office assistants during the county fair. Following a lengthy discussion about the price of memberships and exhibitor passes for the 2014 Carroll County Fair, members voted to increase admission (gate) prices for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to $8, and for Friday, Saturday and Sunday to $10 for the 2014 fair. The increased prices include grandstand shows, but not rides or track seats. Memberships

and exhibitor ticket prices were increased to $30, which includes grandstand shows, but not rides or track seats. The last increase in membership passes was in 2011, according to Treasurer Margaret Mesler. After a discussion about cutting a day from the fair schedule, Trushel said the dates for the 2014 fair cannot be changed, but could be for the 2015 fair. In other business, the board: -AGREED to renew the American Electric Power (AEP) 12-month lease for 2014 with the same language and payment as the previous lease. -MET in executive session to discuss personnel. Kennedy From A-1 When Stone was a teen, he saw LBJ and J. Edgar Hoover dining in Washington D.C. When Johnson briefly left the table, Stone asked for Hoover’s autograph and had his picture taken with the man. Even then, he felt Johnson was “very tall and intimidating. “The Man Who Killed Kennedy - The Case Against LBJ is a nearly 400-page trip into a time of grief, disbelief and cover-ups. Stone’s book can be purchased at bookstores and online. For more information about Stone, visit www.stonezone.com. “Lyndon Johnson was just evil, stated Stone. “Even the Texans called him ‘Lyin’ Lyndon. Stories on local residents who shared their memories of the Kennedy assassination appear on Page C-1.

what they are looking for. In the meantime, they are utilizing every tool at their disposal to market the county. Along with new Facebook and Twitter accounts, the staff is utilizing every available site to market properties in the county. “Tana listed a couple available Carroll County properties on Ohio Insight (a Website offered through Jobs Ohio), Dodds noted. “They are already sold. The pair is asking local residents to become involved as well. “We are asking anyone who has real estate or a building they would like to sell to contact us. We are building an inventory and are willing to list those properties, regardless of whether or not they are listed with a realtor, Dodds said. Tana chipped in saying she is also asking residents to become involved in the Facebook page and has been posting photos and asking residents to identify the location. “We’re also inviting residents to submit their photos to the office, she said. Photos can be submitted via email to McClelland at tmcclelland@carrollcountyohio.us Dodds said marketing and responsible development is the key to taking advantage of the oil and gas boom in the Utica Shale and maintaining the heritage of the county. “Our number one goal is to improve the quality of life for all of Carroll County while preserving our heritage, said Dodds, who has strong historical ties to the community. “We work close with developers to set long term goals so businesses that locate here will be here for future generations, he said. “We are also working with developers to revitalize the downtown area. We want to bring pride to the community, he noted. He said companies are investing in the rail line that travels through Carrollton, which could open an entirely new option for businesses and industry. “We are also working on bringing water and sewer from Malvern to the Commerce Park along SR 43 with a project called the Northern Corridor. When that project is complete, it will open the area along the railroad tracks for development as well as the Commerce Park. Much of the work of an economic development office is behind closed doors, which Dodds acknowledged, often leads the public to wonder if anything is going on. “There is plenty going on in Carroll County, he said. “We are working on some exciting projects that involve commercial, industrial and park development as well as some retail business. We are also working on housing for seniors, assisted living and nursing homes, which will be needed as the population ages. We post what information we can for the public. We do a lot without being seen. Residents can keep abreast of economic development activities by “liking their Facebook page, Carroll County Economic Development, following them on Twitter, @EconomicDecCarrollCo, or calling the office at 330-6275500.
