SHOT ON THE
HOOK RIG
THIS TIDY LITTLE RIG IS A FIRM FAVOURITE WITH FOX PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT GURU’S SHAUN MCSPADDEN AND SCOTT DAY WHEN THEY ARE FISHING SHORT BRAIDED RIGS INSIDE SOLID PVA BAGS... As mentioned our very own Shaun McSpadden and Scott Day like to fish this presentation on braided hooklinks in conjunction with the Rapide PVA system, however you can also use it with a coated braid hooklink too with a small mesh bag should you wish. However, for the purpose of this section, we are going to concentrate on using it inside a solid PVA bag.
The rig itself is very easy to tie and works very well when you place a Line Aligna Adaptor over the eye of the hook, as this helps the rig to turn and grab hold of the bottom lip much faster. You need to use a buoyant pop-up hookbait on the Hair and then instead of placing a counter weight or split shot on the hooklink like you normally would with a pop-up you actually, as the name suggests, place it on the hook via a small piece of braid (see sequence). This split shot on the hook ensures that your pop-up hookbait only sits a little way off of the lakebed, which means when your PVA bag of pellets melts you are left with your hookbait sat at the top of the pile – like a cherry on a cake! Once a fish comes along and sucks in the contents of the bag, your rig will fly into its mouth and then the Line Aligna Adaptor will cause the hook to turn and grab hold – in fact the shot will make your hook point heavy, which will help the hook to turn and drive the point down into the bottom lip.
