Dale Chihuly, an American artist noted for revolutionizing the studio glass movement and elevating perceptions of the glass medium, brings installations of Fiori (Italian for “flowers”) to The Society of the Four Arts beginning January 18, 2021. The two installations — which will be placed in the Philip Hulitar Sculpture Garden — are comprised of Black and Yellow Herons and Red Bulbous Reeds,
each demonstrating the artist’s penchant for organic, free flowing forms that evoke the natural world. “I love to juxtapose the manmade and the natural to sort of make people wonder, are they manmade or did they come from nature? That’s a very important part of my work.” said Dale Chihuly. Known for ambitious architectural
installations in cities, museums, and gardens around the world, Chihuly utilizes a variety of media to realize his creative vision, including glass, paint, charcoal, neon, ice, and Polyvitro. Chihuly’s work is included in more than 200 museum collections worldwide, including Metropolitan Museum of Art, Smithsonian American Art Museum, and Corning Museum of Glass. Winter 2021 Folio
