Iceland
Akureyri Akureyri, also known as the Capital of the North is Iceland’s second-largest city after Reykjavik. However, the fact that it’s full of quirky cafes, elegant restaurants and beautiful art galleries that draw in tourists by the thousands each year proves that it doesn’t play second fiddle in any other aspect. During the summer months, this town’s botanical gardens are booming with colourful flowers, despite the snow-capped peaks in the background. Exploring Eyjafjörður, one of the longest fjords in the country, brings plenty of wildlife into view, including puffins and even humpback whales.
Suggested holiday:
If you’re a serious Christmas lover, you may wish to visit the fairy tale-inspired Christmas House, open 365 days of the year. The sweets on its bright red roof and white, snow-like detailing mean you can’t miss it.
