The Foundation of FOSS
FOSS was founded in 1956 by the innovative engineer Nils Foss. His ambition was to offer automated and cost-efficient alternatives to time-consuming analyses in the food and agriculture industry. And though much has changed in more than 60 years, our approach to business and development of innovative analytical solutions has not. The first FOSS instruments were developed to test moisture in grain. These were followed by analytical solutions for the dairy industry, and today we also cover laboratories and companies within biofuel, feed/forage, meat and wine. In 1997 FOSS acquired Perstorp Analytical AB, thereby adding substantial strength in reference analysis methods, in 2003 we introduced X-ray analysis and in 2017 we employ more than 1350 skilled professionals all over the world. Following our ambition of adding value to our customers’ business, our Danish headquarters has become the chemometrics capital of the world. From here we build and maintain the algorithms that help businesses all over the world turn data into information and information into action. Establishing our new Digital
Services division, we walk the talk and are now ready to assist big and small food and agricultural producers optimise production in a time of digital transition.

Our analysis instruments refine measurements into information management that enables businesses to run intelligent datadriven productions with less waste and bigger yields. Controlling cost and quality across all sectors and value chains, we help food and agricultural producers limit the number of human errors, scale their business faster and reduce manual labour as well as labour costs. Over the last 60 years, we have made it our business to define the standard of analytical solutions for the food and agricultural industry. We pioneered advanced analysis for the challenging production environments in the 1960’s, and we were the first to integrate chemical composition analysis in process lines. Now our resolve and ambition have also made us the international benchmark in the field of chemometrics and real time analytics.

FOSS has manufacturing, research and development facilities in Denmark and China. Solutions are sold and supported through FOSS sales and service companies in 28 countries and by more than 75 distributors.
Financial strength FOSS is a 100% family-owned company with a solvency ratio of 81% and a turnover of €285 million, with 98% of turnover outside Denmark. We have been awarded the AAA diploma rating for the highest credit rating in D&B's rating scale and with an EBITA of more than 20% of turnover.

Our people FOSS employs more than 1370 dedicated people worldwide. Many employees have a top-level scientific or technical background, including more than 130 Master of Science and more than 20 PhDs in areas such as photonics, chemometrics, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, fermentation and bioengineering, astrophysics, optical communication, physics, quality, nanotechnology, food science and adaptive radiotherapy.
