Casa Poporului (2010) øi 1 spectacol. 3 piese scurte (Asigurare de viaflæ; Sub privirea mea; Campionul unei mari iubiri, 2011) sînt cele douæ proiecte-spectacol – de teatru comunitar – dezvoltate de regizorul øi dramaturgul Bogdan Georgescu cu deflinufli ai Penitenciarului de Maximæ Siguranflæ de la Craiova øi ambele au beneficiat în acelaøi timp de statutul dual, oarecum derutant, de intervenflie artisticæ øi de creaflie teatralæ cu prezenflæ festivalieræ. Næscute ca parte a unor „proiecte de artæ activæ pentru educaflie culturalæ øi reintegrare socialæ“ (termenul de artæ activæ fiind modul în care Georgescu îøi autodefineøte practica de lucru comunitar), cele douæ spectacole pornesc de la investigarea øi ficflionalizarea universului personal øi social al persoanelor condamnate (situafliile, intenflionate sau accidentale, însæ alimentate de un anume context, care pot duce la infracfliune, viafla de zi cu zi într-o închisoare), care participæ direct în procesul de scriere dramaticæ øi de dezvoltare de spectacol (ca performeri). Rafliunea lor existenflialæ dublæ porneøte de la esenfla demersului în sine (arta comunitaræ are drept mizæ centralæ empowerment-ul membrilor respectivei comunitæfli, un transfer al mijloacelor de autoreprezentare, în condifliile în care cei vizafli sînt socialmente lipsifli de astfel de instrumente) øi, în acelaøi timp, de la dorinfla provocærii reprezentærilor sociale existente ale grupului vizat (în cazul de faflæ, preconcepfliile despre criminalitate øi persoanele care executæ pedepse penale) – motiv pentru care nici Casa
THE HOUSE OF THE PEOPLE FROM PRISONS Iulia Popovici
(Casa Poporului House of the People) (2010) and 1 spectacol: 3 piese scurte (Asigurare de viaflæ; Sub privirea mea; Campionul unei mari iubiri) [1 show: 3 short stories (Life insurance; Under my gaze; The champion of a great love)], 2011 are the two community-based theatre projects-shows, developed by director and playwright Bogdan Georgescu together with detainees of the Maximum Security Prison from Craiova, both having benefited at the same time from the partly confusing dual status of artistic interventions and theatre creations presented in festivals. Born as part of some “projects of active art for cultural education and social reintegration” (the concept of active art being the way in which Georgescu defines his practice in community-based work), the two shows start from the investigation and fictionalization of the personal and social universe of the condemned persons (the intentional or accidental – though stimulated by a certain context – situations which can lead to crime, or the daily life in a prison), who participate directly (as performers) in the process of drama writing and show development. IULIA POPOVICI e jurnalist cultural, critic de artæ în domeniul artelor performative øi curator. Este redactoarea secfliunii de arte performative a sæptæmînalului Observator cultural din Bucureøti øi cocurator al Platformei Independente pentru Arte Performative din cadrul Festivalului Temps d’Images de la Cluj. Scrie despre scena experimentalæ de artæ performativæ, grupuri øi artiøti din România øi Europa de Est, artæ angajatæ øi practici de înregistrare documentaræ, precum øi despre identitatea regionalæ øi provocærile sociale ale artelor performative contemporane.
IULIA POPOVICI is a cultural journalist and performing arts critic and curator. She is editor for the performing arts section at the Observator cultural weekly cultural magazine (Bucharest) and co-curator of the Independent Performing Arts Platform in the framework of Temps d’Images Festival, Cluj. She writes about the alternative performing arts scene, collectives and artists in Romania and Eastern Europe, engaged art and documentary practices, as well as about regional identity and the social challenges of contemporary performing arts.
