Attention all Fort Liberty Paw-rents! Something awesome is on its way that is bound to make tails wag with excitement! Coming soon to Fort Liberty will be our very own Paws on Post Pet Kennel! Paws on Post is gearing up to be your go-to destination for all things pet pampering. Whether you are headed out of town for a few days or just need a place for your furry friend to socialize and play, we’ve got you covered!

Our facility will offer a wide range of add-on services to cater to your pet’s every need. From extra walks to some one-on-one playtime, your pet will be treated like royalty from the moment they walk through our doors. And let’s not forget about bath time, because who doesn’t love a squeaky-clean pet? For those pups with a nose for adventure, we will be offering the option for scent work activities to keep their minds sharp and their tails wagging. For those fur babies that need some extra love, YES, extra love and cuddles can be added as well.

We are not open just yet but let’s talk getting ready. We want to make sure that every pet that walks through our doors is happy, healthy, and safe. That’s why we require all furry guests to be up to date on their vaccinations and any testing needed, as well as registered with the on post veterinary clinic. We also have a few breed restrictions (as highlighted in reg 40-5) in place, just to ensure everyone gets along just great. Finally, our younger furry clientele must be at least four months old to join in on the fun. Don’t forget to pick up and drop off your pets on time so that our staff have plenty of time to prepare for incoming guests and to reduce traffic in the facility.

Mark your calendars and get ready to unleash the fun with Fort Liberty’s Paws on Post Pet Kennel. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome your furry companions into our Family. Keep an eye out in June on our website (liberty.armymwr.com) and social media (@fortlibertymwr) for updates and get ready for a tail-wagging good time.

KEEPING PETS CALM:

Strategies to Mitigate Anxiety from Loud Noises Such as Explosions or Low-flying Aircraft

• Create a Safe Space: Designate a quiet room or area where your pet can retreat Sound-proofing this space with heavy curtains or blankets over windows can help muffle loud sounds.

• Use Background Noise: Soft music or white noise can mask the jarring sounds of explosions or loud music, providing a soothing backdrop for your pet.

• Desensitization Techniques: Gradually expose your pet to recorded sounds of fireworks or loud events at low volumes, increasing their tolerance over time. Always associate these sessions with positive reinforcement, like treats or affection.

• Anxiety-Reducing Apparel: Consider dressing your pet in a weighted vest or calming coat. These garments apply gentle pressure, similar to a comforting hug, which can significantly reduce anxiety.

• Talk with Us: For pets with severe anxiety, consulting with us at Cliffdale Animal Hospital about natural supplements or prescription medications can be a crucial step. Our team can offer tailored advice and treatments to help your pet cope with the stress of loud noises.

A GUIDE TO PROTECTING YOUR FURRY FRIENDS:

In the warm, humid climate of our area, the risk of heartworm, fleas, and ticks is heightened, making preventative treatments essential. This region’s conditions foster a breeding ground for mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks, increasing the likelihood of pets contracting heartworm disease or suffering from flea and tick infestations. Regular preventative care not only protects pets from potentially fatal diseases like heartworm and Lyme disease but also safeguards your family from related health risks and the inconvenience of home infestations. Investing in such care is a key aspect of responsible pet ownership, ensuring a healthier, happier life for pets and peace of mind for their families.

Preparing Kids for Back-to-School Success

As the lazy days of summer start to wind down, it’s time to start thinking about the upcoming school year. For military families, the transition back to school can be even more challenging, but with some preparation and planning, you can set your kids up for a successful start. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help your kids prepare for the new school year:

Set a Routine

Start transitioning your kids back to a school routine a few weeks before the school year starts. Establish regular bedtimes and wake-up times to ensure they get enough rest for the school day. Encourage them to practice getting ready for school.

Review and Refresh

Summer break can lead to a loss of academic skills known as the “summer slide.” Help your kids prevent this by incorporating some educational activities into their summer routine. Encourage them to read books, work on math problems, or explore educational apps.

Get Organized

Create a designated study area in your home with all the necessary supplies. Consider setting up a planner to keep track of assignments, projects, and important dates. Teach your kids how to use organizational tools to stay on top of their schoolwork.

Set Goals

Encourage your kids to set academic and personal goals for the new school year. Whether it’s improving their grades, making new friends, or trying out for a sports team, setting goals can help motivate them to stay focused and engaged.

Plan for Extracurricular Activities

Discuss extracurricular activities with your kids and help them choose ones that align with their interests and goals. Whether it’s joining a sports team, participating in a club, or taking music lessons, extracurricular activities can enrich their school experience and help them develop new skills and interests.

Preparing for the new school year can be an exciting time for both parents and kids. Remember to stay positive and supportive throughout the transition back to school. Acknowledge any anxiety or concerns your kids may have and reassure them that it’s normal to feel nervous about the new school year.

New Guidance on Federal Resumes

Federal employment is a popular option for job seekers. Army Community Service Employment Readiness Program specialists help clients interested in federal employment navigate the job search process efficiently. Specialists help clients create their USAJobs.gov account, understand hiring eligibilities, tailor resumes, apply for positions, prepare for interviews, and even find the proper attire to wear during the interview or job fair.

“You can walk into our office any day at any time, and we are probably talking about a federal resume,” says Debbie Slaughter, ERP Specialist. “We offer a federal resume workshop and help craft individual resumes during scheduled appointments. It’s a popular service.”

A large part of federal resume counseling is combating resume myths. Federal resumes are more detailed and require more information than private sector resumes. Previously, there were no guidelines on how many pages the federal resume should be.

“Most applicants know a private sector resume needs to be less than two pages in length, but the federal resume has typically had no limits, until recently,” said Carolina Echeverri, ERP Specialist. “Now we suggest no more than five pages.”

Many job vacancies on USAJobs.gov now include a statement advising that the uploaded resume should have five pages or less. As a result, job seekers need to make their qualifications and achievements more concise and relevant. This limit is currently a pilot program for many federal agencies.

An effective resume should cover the most recent ten years of experience. A candidate should always emphasize expertise relevant to the vacant position, removing anything that does not directly support qualification requirements.

For more information, please visit the ACS Employment Readiness Program on the 3rd Floor of the Soldier Support Center or call 910-396-2390 or 910-396-1425.
