High Street Happenings – the past year Working with the Forest Hill and Sydenham Societies we have continued to seek to improve the three town centres. A review of opportunities for Forest Hill Town Centre was presented to the Forest Hill ward assembly in June. It suggested that currently under-used sites around the Station should be developed as part of a coordinated vision, which improves the environment for local residents and businesses. SEE3 continued to receive funding from the Sydenham Assembly to support community events at Easter, Halloween and Christmas. We were delighted to run the Easter Bonnet workshop from Here for Good and the Halloween costume competition at The Sydenham Centre. Once again we received fantastic support from our local businesses as families filled the high street. We worked with local Councillors to ensure that all three centres had a Christmas tree lighting event and as we look forward to the carol singing this year we hope you will come along to bring some Christmas cheer to our high streets. Looking ahead to 2018 The SEE3 team will continue to work on the development of our three high streets. We welcome the new businesses who have opened in the area during the past year and those with plans to promote a vibrant evening economy. 2018 will see the completion of the enhancements to Dartmouth Road and local businesses with others are planning a bit of a street party in the New Year while while the road is fully closed to traffic. The Forest Hill Society Burns Night Supper will be on Saturday 27 January at the All Inn One on Perry Vale. We are delighted that The Sydenham Centre is now up and running and home to Ignition Brewery, Sydenham Arts and Spontaneous Productions. Please support their up and coming events. On Friday 26 January from 7.30pm Sydenham Arts are presenting Jah Burns – Burns Night with a Jamaican and Scottish mash up of poetry, music and a ceilidh. For more info go to Sydenhamarts.co.uk Spontaneous Productions plans for 2018 include: Love Bites Again – short plays for Valentine’s Day, The Jewess of Jews Walk – a new drama about Eleanor Marx in April and The Little Mermaid and Other Tails – a family theatre show in May-June. Check out spontaneousproductions.co.uk The SEE3 team consists of a handful of volunteers who generously give up their time to help improve the environment in which we live, many of whom have also helped with the production of this, our sixth, Christmas Calendar. Can you get involved? We need more volunteers to help deliver SEE3 community initiatives as well as activities in Forest Hill and Sydenham Community Libraries. Our thanks go to SEE3 Directors – Chair Councillor Chris Best, Treasurer Alex Feakes, IT expert Richard Hibbert and Secretary Annabel McLaren. SEE3 Town Team and Core Group SEE3 is proud to have achieved a great deal over the last five years. We are now looking for new volunteer team members to join the SEE3 Core Group. The role of the Core Group is to help achieve the SEE3 Town Team vision, devise the strategy and plan for improving our high streets.
