An established coach with a track record of success in leading her golfers to NCAA Regional competition and conference championships, Lisa Johnson was named the head coach of the Nebraska women’s golf program, June 17, 2019.

Johnson, who came to Nebraska after serving as the head coach at the University of Idaho (2007-19), became just the fourth head coach in the 45-year history of the Husker women’s golf program.

“She is a proven winner and a fierce competitor who relates well with her players,” Nebraska Athletic Director Bill Moos said. “I have admired Lisa’s body of work for some time and truly believe that she has what it takes to compete for championships.”

Johnson, whose hiring followed the retirement of Robin Krapfl after 32 seasons guiding the Husker program, said her mission was to bring the highest level of achievement to Nebraska golfers both on and off the course by building on her own experiences and Nebraska’s tradition of success.

“I am incredibly thankful and excited for the opportunity to lead Nebraska women’s golf,” Johnson said. “It is an honor to take over for Coach Robin Krapfl. She left a terrific legacy, and I can’t wait to get to work with the strong roster we have returning and the incoming freshman.”

As a coach, Johnson’s success at Idaho has been impressive, including the 2016 and 2018 Big Sky Conference titles.

Johnson led Idaho to three NCAA Regional appearances during her time in Moscow, including trips in 2010, 2016 and 2018. Her teams also finished second in the conference five more times, including 2009, 2012, 2014 (Western Athletic Conference) and 2017 and 2019 (Big Sky).

Johnson was a two-time WAC Coach of the Year (2010, 2012). She earned her PGA Class A Professional status in 2016.

Johnson’s golfers have enjoyed outstanding individual success. She tutored two-time All-American Kayla Mortellaro

to three WAC Player-of-the-Year honors and a WAC Freshmanof-the-Year award. Mortellaro, who earned individual NCAA Regional bids in 2009, 2011 and 2012, and competed as a member of Idaho’s 2010 NCAA Regional team, went on to earn her LPGA card in 2013.

In 2019, Vandal senior Sophie Hausmann joined Mortellaro in becoming a three-time individual NCAA Regional participant. Hausmann, a two-time Big Sky Player of the Year (2018, 2019) and a four-time first-team All-Big Sky selection, carried a 72.2 stroke average as a senior. The native of Nottuln, Germany, competed in the 2018 U.S. Women’s Open and played in the inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur in 2019.

Hausmann and Mortellaro were joined as Vandal NCAA Regional participants by Teo Poplawski (2011) and Leilanie Kim (2015). Kim went on to advance to the final stage as an individual at the 2015 NCAA Championship.

Hausmann and Mortellaro also headline a list of 29 allconference golfers coached by Johnson in her career in Moscow. Hausmann (Big Sky) and Mortellaro (WAC) were both four-time first-team all-conference honorees. In 2019, Hausmann was joined on the Big Sky first team by sophomore teammate Valeria Patino, while Michelle Kim was named to the second team and freshman Vicky Tsai was honorable-mention All-Big Sky. Michelle Kim was also a two-time first-team All-Big Sky selection (2016, 2017) during her career, which recognizes the top five players in the conference. She added a third-team award in 2018.

Kim was one of three Idaho golfers to earn WGCA AllAmerica Scholar recognition in 2018 - her second consecutive award. Overall, Idaho golfers earned 37 WGCA ScholarAmerica awards during Johnson’s time in Moscow, while her Vandals earned 51 academic all-conference awards.

“I am committed to developing players and providing a comprehensive student-athlete experience, which includes competing at a high level and reaching the postseason,” Johnson said. “With Nebraska’s rich tradition of excellence and strong community support, I believe we will achieve those goals.”

Success in the classroom for her golfers has always gone hand-in-hand with success on the course. Johnson, who was

the Gonzaga Female Student-Athlete of the Year during her career as a collegiate golfer, led her Idaho teams to annual recognition for its academic success. The Vandal women’s golf program also has been honored each of the past five seasons with NCAA Public Recognition Awards for its multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores.

Since 2007, every Idaho women’s golfer who has exhausted her eligibility at Idaho has earned her degree. In 2009, Johnson’s Vandals were honored for posting the No. 1 team grade-point average (3.78) in the NCAA. Idaho’s 2016 team added a 3.68 GPA to rank No. 23 in the country among all women’s golf teams.

Johnson did more than just help build the Idaho program on the course and in the classroom, she assisted in all phases of fundraising, design and construction of the Jess and Kathleen Hall Performance Golf Center at the University of Idaho Golf Course, which was dedicated in 2016.

During Johnson’s first season at Idaho in 2007-08, she was also the head men’s golf coach. She went to Moscow after spending five-and-a-half seasons as the head women’s golf coach at Boise State from January of 2002 through May of 2007.

Johnson was a West Coast Conference All-Academic selection and was also the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. As a Bulldog golfer, she won three individual tournament titles and was an All-West Coast Conference selection.

Johnson graduated cum laude from Gonzaga in 2000, before earning her master’s degree from the University of Idaho in 2002.

While earning her master’s degree, Johnson served as a graduate assistant for both the Vandal men’s and women’s golf programs. The 2001 Idaho women’s team won the Big West Conference title and advanced to NCAA Regional competition, while featuring the Big West Player of the Year.

She was married in February 2008 to John Johnson, who is senior deputy athletic director/chief of staff at the University of Nebraska. The couple has twin children, Ellie and Cooper.

Chessey Thomas joined the Nebraska women’s golf team the associate head coach in the summer of 2019. She became just the second full-time assistant coach in the history of the Husker program.

“Chessey brings a wealth of knowledge to Nebraska, both from playing professionally and coaching at the highest level,” Nebraska Coach Lisa Johnson said. “I admire her work ethic, competitiveness and her ability to relate to her players. I cannot to wait to work with her again.”

In four seasons as a collegiate assistant, all four teams Thomas has coached have advanced to at least NCAA Regional play, while she helped her final two teams at Washington to NCAA Championship appearances (2018, 2019). In her four seasons as a golfer at Tennessee, she was also a part of four NCAA Regional teams, including two teams that advanced to the NCAA Championships (2011, 2012).

Thomas, who began her coaching career as an assistant under Johnson at the University of Idaho in 2015-16, came to Nebraska after three successful seasons at the University of Washington. In 2018-19, Thomas helped the Huskies to an 18th-place finish at the NCAA Championship in Fayetteville, Ark., after taking second at the Cle Elum Regional in Suncadia, Wash. In her second season at Washington, Thomas aided UW to a tie for ninth at the NCAA Championship in Stillwater, Okla. In her first year as an assistant in Seattle, Thomas was part of a Washington team that finished eighth at 2017 NCAA Regionals.

In her lone season working with Johnson at Idaho, Thomas helped the Vandals to the 2016 Big Sky Conference Championship and an NCAA Regional appearance. The Vandals also featured the Big Sky individual champion and the Big Sky Freshman of the Year, while earning three allconference selections. Idaho also produced three WGCA All-American Scholars while posting the No. 23 team GPA in the nation.

“I am really looking forward to working with Coach Johnson again,” Thomas said, “and am grateful to her and

the University of Nebraska Athletic Department for this great opportunity.”

Thomas played her college golf at the University of Tennessee, lettering from 2011 to 2014. She completed a standout career with second-team All-SEC honors as a senior.

Her 74.32 stroke average led the Lady Vols in 2013-14. In her career, she competed in 38 tournaments and produced 15 career top-25 finishes, including a tournament title at the Lady Bulldog Invite as a senior. As a junior, Thomas tied for eighth individually at the 2013 NCAA East Regional with a career-low 66 in the final round.

During her four-year career at Tennessee, Thomas was a key part of four teams that advanced to NCAA Regional play. She also helped the Lady Vols to berths in the NCAA Championship as both a freshman (2011) and sophomore (2012).

She continued her competitive career following graduation, advancing to all three stages of the LPGA Qualifying School, barely missing the final tour card cut.

Born in Santiago, Chile but raised mainly in Spokane, Wash., Thomas won back-to-back Class 4A Washington State Championships in 2009 and 2010 and was ranked as high as No. 24 among GolfWeek’s Class of 2010 commitments. She was also a standout high school basketball player, scoring more than 1,300 career points in just three seasons while earning Washington Class B All-Tournament honors for Saint George’s School.

Thomas majored in journalism and electronic media at Tennessee and was heavily involved in producing web and social media content for the golf team as a player for the Lady Vols. She spent three months as a tournament operations intern for the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) in 2015, while also spending several months as assistant golf pro at Manito Golf and Country Club in Spokane, Wash., before accepting her first full-time assistant coaching position with Johnson at Idaho.

NEBRASKA GOLF ACADEMY The Nebraska Golf Academy is a unique indoor golf training facility that offers over 2,000 sq. ft. of indoor putting and chipping surface located at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club. The Academy has seven covered, heated hitting bays and two teaching bays fully equipped with video and equipment analysis. The Nebraska women’s golf team practices regularly at the Academy during the season.

Golf Office Secretary Fourth Season

Senior Associate A.D./Life Skills 33rd Season Wayne State (Neb.) (1985)

Rose Sousek is in her fourth season as the secretary for the Nebraska men’s and women’s golf programs in 2019-20. She handles all office functions and works directly with the Nebraska golf coaches. She also serves as a secretary for the Nebraska track and field program.

She previously served Nebraska Athletics as the women’s basketball office secretary from 1999 to 2016. Prior to joining the athletic department, Sousek was a secretary in the office of Multicultural Affairs.

Sousek was born in San Bernardino, Calif., and graduated from San Bernardino Valley College with an associate degree in liberal arts in 1974. Sousek moved to Nebraska in 1986.

She and her husband, Bob, have six children, Mike, Cynthia, Ray, Tony, Dan and Amy, and 20 grandchildren. Rose’s daughter Cynthia is a University of Nebraska graduate.

JEFF GRIESCH Women’s Golf Communications 17th Season

Jeff Griesch is in his 17th season as media relations contact for the Nebraska women’s golf program and his 25th season overall with Nebraska Athletics.

Griesch serves as the Senior Associate Communications Director, coordinating all aspects of media relations for the women’s basketball and women’s golf programs while also coordinating student assignments for Nebraska’s sports.

Griesch hires and supervises the student assistants in the Athletic Communications Office, while also serving as the senior editor for all of Nebraska’s media guides.

In addition to his supervisory roles, Griesch helps Assistant Athletic Director Keith Mann in promoting the Nebraska football program, along with other office duties assigned by Mann.

Griesch enters his 22nd season as a radio color commentator for Nebraska women’s basketball in 2019-20. He also spent 11 seasons as the host of the Nebraska Women’s Basketball TV Show.

He has served as Nebraska women’s basketball contact at 11 NCAA Tournaments, including the first two NCAA Sweet 16 bids in school history (2010, 2013). He also has helped promote three first-round WNBA Draft picks (Lindsey Moore, Kelsey Griffin, Nicole Kubik) and two firstteam WBCA All-Americans (Griffin, Jordan Hooper).

Griesch spent six years as an assistant director and two years as a graduate intern in the Media Relations Office, after starting his sports information career as a student in October of 1995.

In 2007-08, Griesch’s Nebraska’s women’s basketball media and recruiting guide was voted the third-best guide in the nation by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). His women’s golf guide also finished third in the national contest, the highest rankings in history for both of those publications.

Griesch’s 1997-98 wrestling guide was voted “Best in the Nation” by Amateur Wrestling News and finished second in the CoSIDA publications contest. The Nebraska women’s soccer guide finished in the top 10 four straight seasons, including a third-place finish in 2000. His 2003-04 women’s basketball guide was voted “Best in the District” and 11th in the nation, after finishing 12th and winning “Best in the District” honors in 2001-02.

From 2000 to 2009, Nebraska’s media and recruiting publications and posters earned nearly 200 national publication awards from CoSIDA, with Griesch helping to coordinate the printing of those publications.

Griesch earned a bachelor’s of journalism degree in news-editorial from Nebraska in 1996.

He was the first two-time recipient of the CoSIDA/Wylie Smith Postgraduate Scholarship and was a Regents Scholar as both an undergraduate and graduate student. He recently ended a three-year team as the chair of CoSIDA’s prestigious graduate and undergraduate scholarship committee, which has awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars to exceptional candidates in the media relations field since its inception.

Griesch and his wife, Emily, are originally from Wayne, Neb., and have a daughter, Hollan, and three sons, Jackson, Brennan and Isaac.

Keith Zimmer has been at Nebraska for over 30 years and leads Nebraska’s Life Skills unit within the department. He also serves as the sports administrator for the swimming and diving team, men’s and women’s golf programs, men’s and women’s tennis teams and the Husker softball program.

Zimmer also oversees student-athlete transition and retention, is the liaison to the StudentAthlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the Big Ten Sports Management Committee, Nebraska’s Post-Eligibility Opportunities (PEO) program and works closely with the College of Business Administration coordinating efforts with the Masters in Intercollegiate Athletics Administration Program (MAIAA).

Zimmer, who started at Nebraska in 1987, carries more than 30 years of life skills and student services experience and provides support to all current Nebraska student-athletes, in addition to offering ongoing support, guidance and programming to alumni student-athletes.

Components of the Husker Life Skills program include individual student-athlete meetings, major life skills events, the Husker Life Seminar, community outreach, service abroad opportunities, Post-Eligibility Opportunities, graduate school assistance and postgraduate scholarships. Zimmer and his staff also play a major role in the success of the annual studentathlete achievement event, “A Night at the Lied.”

Zimmer, who worked in Nebraska’s Academic and Support Services area from 1987 to 2006, while pioneering Nebraska’s Life Skills program, is regarded as a national leader in the life skills area. He received one of the top honors in college athletics in September of 2006, when he was chosen for the Dr. Gene Hooks Award as the Life Skills Administrator of the Year. Zimmer has also served as an NCAA Life Skills trainer and is active with the National Consortium for Academics and Sport. He has also received the Chancellor’s Award for Exemplary Service to Students and has been named an honorary member of both Golden Key National Honor Society and Mortar Board at UNL. Zimmer earned his bachelor’s degree at Wayne State College and his master’s in education from Springfield (Mass.) College. Zimmer and his wife, Michelle, have two sons, Logan and Caden.

PAT LOGSDON Deputy A.D./SWA 39th Season Nebraska (1989) A member of the Nebraska Athletic Department since 1979, Pat Logsdon serves as Deputy Athletic Director and Nebraska’s Senior Woman Administrator to the NCAA and the Big Ten Conference. She also serves on the Big Ten Sports Management Committee.

Logsdon’s duties include the department’s Gender Equity and Diversity and Inclusion Plans as well as student-athlete surveys and exit interviews. She is also the senior administrator over Nebraska’s Life Skills and performance areas.

Logsdon serves as the sport administrator for volleyball, beach volleyball, women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s gymnastics.

Previously, Logsdon spent 23 seasons in football operations, including six seasons as NU’s director of football operations, the first female in Division I to serve in that capacity. She handled organization of all recruiting functions, supervised compliance activities and coordinated all football administrative operations, including travel and practice operations.

Logsdon earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Nebraska.

Nine simple words that carry impressive significance and undeniable responsibility. Words that Nebraska’s athletic director uses to lead his programs and set the tone for building champions in competition and in life.

William H. (Bill) Moos was named Nebraska’s Athletic Director on Oct. 15, 2017, and fully assumed those responsibilities on Oct. 23.

Moos, who became the 15th athletic director in the history of the storied Cornhusker program, brought nearly 25 years of experience as an athletic director at three Division I schools (Washington State, Oregon, Montana) with him to Nebraska.

More importantly, he brings an impressive track record of success in building outstanding programs, developing longterm relationships, and for doing what is best for his schools, its fans and most importantly, its student-athletes.

“When you name the top three, four, five athletic programs in the great positions as an athletic director, Nebraska is in that same breath,” Moos said at his introductory press conference at Memorial Stadium. “I want you to know that my motto has always been, in the 25 years I have been a Division I athletic director and it will be here too is very simple - honor the past, live the present, create the future.”

In his first six months at Nebraska, Moos made three coaching hires. He drew universal praise for hiring Scott Frost, the 2017 consensus national coach of the year, as Nebraska’s head football coach in December. Following the spring semester,

Moos also hired Mark Hankins to coach the men’s golf team and Sean Maymi to lead the men’s tennis program.

Nebraska made national headlines with the hiring of Fred Hoiberg as its new men’s basketball coach in 2019. Moos made another impact move with the hiring of former Husker Will Bolt to lead the baseball program, after Major League All-Star, Gold Glove award winner and World Series champion Darin Erstad stepped down from his head coaching position after leading the Huskers to the 2019 NCAA Tournament.

Moos hired Lisa Johnson to lead the women’s golf program after the retirement of long-time coach Robin Krapfl. He also hired long-time Husker assistant Paul Klempa to guide the nationally dominant bowling program after the retirement of the legendary Bill Straub, who led the program to five NCAA titles since 2004.

Former Husker national champions Heather Brink (women’s gymnastics) and Rachel Martin (rifle) were also hired by Moos to lead those national championship-contending programs.

In competition, the Nebraska volleyball team claimed the 2017 NCAA title just months after Moos was hired, before adding an NCAA runner-up finish in 2018. Both the men’s and women’s gymnastics teams finished in the top six at the 2018 NCAA Championships, before the men added a third-place team finish in 2019 - its best team showing since 1999. The bowling team has added top-three national finishes each of the last two years, and the wrestling team has produced top-10 NCAA finishes both seasons. The women’s basketball team made the NCAA Tournament in 2018, while the baseball team advanced to NCAA Tournament play in 2019.

Nebraska also has continued its excellence in the classroom, producing nine CoSIDA Academic All-Americans over the last two years, bringing NU’s nation-leading total to 338 all-time CoSIDA Academic All-Americans across all sports.

Moos came to Lincoln after spending seven-plus years at Washington State (2010-17). He previously served 12 highly successful seasons as the athletic director at Oregon (1995-2007).

During his time at his alma mater, Moos wasted little time in making his impact felt in Cougar Athletics, spearheading a department-wide rebranding effort with Nike while securing a 10-year, $35 million marketing rights agreement with IMG College.

In addition, the 2004 WSU Alumni Achievement Award winner gained Regents approval for a $130 million addition and remodel of Martin Stadium, featuring a remodeled press box with luxury seating, including suites, loge boxes and club room.

Also included in the project was a state-of-the-art video board and an 80,000-square-foot football operations building that served as the stadium’s showpiece and opened in May 2014.

As the dean of Pac-12 athletic directors, Moos was at the forefront of the conference’s procurement of a 12-year, $3 billion television contract with FOX and ESPN, a landmark agreement in college athletics. Under Moos’ direction, the Cougar Athletic Fund’s Annual Giving program saw an 81 percent increase in gifts while CAF donor members rose from nearly 4,000 to more than 7,500.

Additional facility enhancements under Moos included a center-hung video board in Beasley Coliseum that was installed prior to the 2011-12 season, giving Cougar basketball one of the premier fan experiences in the conference. An indoor golf hitting facility was also completed in early 2013, and Lower Soccer Field underwent a major renovation making the venue TV-ready while also providing one of the best playing surfaces on the West Coast, along with the addition of lights and a new scoreboard.

Other enhancements were made to the Moobery track facility, Bailey-Brayton Field, the basketball practice gym, Gibb Pool and the Simmelink Indoor tennis courts. In Moos’ seven years at WSU, Cougar student-athletes and coaches accounted for 805 academic all-conference selections, 130 all-conference accolades, 45 All-America honors and three Pac-12 Coach-of-the-Year honors.

Moos served as Oregon’s director of athletics from July of 1995 to 2007. While at Oregon he oversaw a 17-sport athletic department that grew to national prominence during his tenure.Oregon’s annual athletic department budget grew from $18.5 million in his first year to more than $40 million

by 2007, becoming 100 percent self-sufficient during that time. Under his direction the Duck Athletic Fund donor base increased from 4,930 to 12,290, resulting in an annual gifts increase from $4.1 million to $15.3 million.

Moos initiated more than $160 million in facility improvements while at Oregon. Included in that was the $90 million Autzen Stadium renovation in 2002, which added 12,000 new seats, 32 new suites, a new Club at Autzen and a new press box to the stadium. In his 12 years, the Ducks ranked first in Pac-10 football attendance 11 times, reaching 100 percent capacity in each of those seasons.

During Moos’ tenure, Oregon athletics captured 13 Pac10 championships across six different sports. He increased opportunities for women by adding two intercollegiate programs, soccer and lacrosse, and negotiated an all-inclusive shoe and apparel contract with Nike, one of only 14 in the country at the time. From an academic standpoint during Moos’ tenure, Oregon student-athletes collected 722 academic allconference selections, 34 Academic All-America selections, nine NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipients and one NCAA Top Ten Award.

During his first stint as a collegiate athletic director at Montana (1990-95), Moos created an academic support program and hired its first athletic academic coordinator, developed a facility enhancement plan that created more than $4 million in improvements, and lifted the school’s fund-raising efforts to show a 300 percent increase in private and corporate gifts.

Academically, Montana student-athletes were equally successful as the athletic department achieved a graduation rate 20 percent higher than the general university enrollment.

Under Moos’ watch Montana garnered 269 academic allconference selections, five Academic All-Americans and two NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipients.

Moos began his athletic career as an athletic administrator in 1982 as assistant athletic director at Washington State. He also served as the school’s associate athletic director (1988-90).

At Washington State, he was director of development for more than five years and associate director for nearly two years, supervising all external operations. Prior to that, he managed and owned private businesses in Washington and Oregon for eight years. He was a student assistant football coach at Washington State for the 1973 season, then spent part of 1974 in Washington, D.C., serving as a government intern.

Raised on a wheat and cattle ranch in eastern Washington, Moos attended high school in Olympia when his father served in the governor’s cabinet. Moos earned his bachelor’s degree in history from WSU and was a three-year letterman in football before concluding his collegiate career by representing Washington State in the 1972 East-West Shrine All-Star Game in San Francisco.

He served as co-captain on the Cougars’ 1972 squad and garnered first-team All-Pac-8 Conference honors. Moos and his wife Kendra have three daughters: Christa, Brittany and Kaiti; and two sons, Bo and Benjamin.

Ronnie D. Green is the 20th chancellor of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He was appointed as chancellor on April 6, 2016 and assumed the duties of the office on May 8, 2016. An official installation ceremony was conducted on April 6, 2017.

In July 2010, Dr. Green was appointed as the Harlan Vice Chancellor of the UNL Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources and Vice President for Agriculture and Natural Resources of the University of Nebraska system. In June 2015, Dr. Green also assumed the interim role of Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the NEBRASKA’S CHANCELLORS institution’s chief academic officer.

Ronnie and best friend Jane are the parents of four children, all graduates of, or enrolled at, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Justin, a political science/history graduate, is a political journalist in Washington, D.C.; Nate is a graduate of the College of Business and Nebraska Law and is with Hausmann Construction in Lincoln; Kelli is an advertising, public relations and global studies graduate and is preparing for the ministry at Princeton Theological Seminary; and Regan is a current student in human development and family science and agricultural communications. Collectively, members of the Green family hold or are pursuing a total of 15 University of Nebraska–Lincoln degrees.

Josephine (Jo) R. Potuto, the Richard H. Larson Professor of Constitutional Law, has been Nebraska’s faculty representative (FAR) at the NCAA and conference level since May 15, 1997.

In 2002, Potuto was named Outstanding Faculty Athletics Representative by the All-American Football Foundation. From 2008-09 to 2011-12 she was president of the 1A FAR (FARs from FBS institutions). Among her NCAA positions, Potuto spent nine years (the maximum) on the NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions (chair her last two years) and currently substitutes when a member cannot serve. She was one of three Big 12 Conference representatives on the NCAA Division I Management Council, served on the NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Championship Committee, and currently serves on an NCAA-wide NEBRASKA’S FACULTY REPS (all divisions) committee to advise NCAA staff on 1931-1946 — T.J. Thompson student-athlete issues and educational programming 1947-1958 — Earl Fullbrook for coaches, staff, and student-athletes. She currently 1959-1964 — Charles S. Potuto is a past adviser to the Uniform Law Commissioners Committee to draft a sports agent statute, has drafted rules governing search and seizure and hearings for the Nebraska Racing Commission, and also has written on issues of gender equity in college athletics. She has authored numerous articles on sports law issues. She just completed an article on how baseball hitting informs legal argument. The articles is in the National Baseball Hall of Fame archives.

Potuto teaches constitutional law, procedure, federal jurisdiction, and sports law. She has been a visiting professor of law at the University of Arizona, Rutgers University, the Cardozo College of Law at New York’s Yeshiva University, the University of Oregon, the University of North Carolina, and Seton Hall University. She currently teaches in the Summer Sports Law Institute at Oregon Law School.

Potuto was project director and a drafter of the Uniform Law Commissioners Sentencing and Corrections Act, as well as the drafter for the Nebraska Supreme Court Committee to Draft Criminal Jury Instructions. She is the author of three books. She was elected to membership in the American Law Institute, the Nebraska State Bar Foundation, and the Douglass Society.

Potuto earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism at Rutgers’ Douglass College, and her master’s degree in English literature at Seton Hall. She earned her juris doctorate at the Rutgers Law College.

She is a member of the bars of Nebraska and New Jersey and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts for Nebraska and New Jersey.

The Board of Regents consists of eight voting members elected by district for six-year terms, and four non-voting student Regents, one from each campus, who serve during their tenure as student body president. The board supervises the general operations of the university, and the control and direction of all expenditures. Susan M. Fritz is the interim president at the University of Nebraska, having served as the executive vice president and provost and dean of the graduate college since August 2012 and as the associate vice president for academic affairs since August 2011. Before joining the provost’s office, Dr. Fritz was the associate vice chancellor for the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) and interim dean of the agricultural research division. She also directed IANR’s international agricultural programs and is a former associate dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and department head of the Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communications (ALEC) program.

Dr. Fritz is a 1979 graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and she received both her master’s degree (1989) and Ph.D. (1993) from UNL. In 2009, she was inducted into the Nebraska Hall of Agricultural Achievement and is the recipient of numerous awards for teaching excellence. She completed a Fulbright Senior Specialist assignment at the University of Zagreb (Croatia), served 10 years as a North Central Higher Learning Commission Consultant Evaluator and was a 2012 Baldrige Examiner with the U.S. Department of Commerce. Dr. Fritz serves as a Fulbright Evaluator, a Food Systems Leadership Institute Commissioner and a Midwest Higher Education Compact Commissioner.

SMITH LEADS HUSKERS IN PURSUIT OF POSTSEASON

Senior Kate Smith will continue her assault on the Nebraska record book while taking aim at a return trip to NCAA Regional play in 2020. Smith is Nebraska’s career stroke average leader and earned an NCAA Regional bid in 2017.

Nebraska moves in a new direction in 2019-20 after Lisa Johnson was named just the fourth head coach in the history of the program in June of 2019.

Johnson took the reins of the Husker program after Robin Krapfl retired following her 32nd season as Nebraska’s head coach. Krapfl guided Nebraska to 11 NCAA Regional appearances and three NCAA Championship bids (2000, 2003, 2006) during her long tenure atop the Nebraska program.

Krapfl, who was a two-time Big Eight Coach of the Year, leaves an established tradition of success at Nebraska that Johnson hopes to build on in the future.

“I am incredibly thankful and excited for the opportunity to lead Nebraska women’s golf,” Johnson said. “It is an honor to take over for Coach Robin Krapfl. She left a terrific legacy, and I can’t wait to get to work with the strong roster we have returning and the incoming freshman.”

Johnson, a two-time Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year (2010, 2012) during her stint at Idaho, brings her own tradition of success to the Cornhusker State.

Johnson led the Vandals to Big Sky Conference championships in 2016 and 2018. She also guided Idaho to NCAA Regional appearances in 2010, 2016 and 2018. In addition, Vandal golfers made individual regional appearances under Johnson’s tutelage in 2009, 2011 (2), 2012, 2015 and 2019.

Johnson’s recent success in helping her golfers to the postseason could bode well for an experienced Nebraska roster in 2019-20.

Nebraska returns everyone from its 2019 roster, led by the record-setting Kate Smith. She set her own Husker season record with a 73.52 stroke average a year ago.

Through the first three years of her career, Smith has produced 13 top-10 finishes among her 20 top-25 showings to go along with her school-record 73.70 career average.

Smith was spectacular in powering the Huskers to a team title at the 2019 Westbrook Spring Invitational. She finished at 208 (-8) to tie for second in a tournament field that featured 14 top-100 programs and seven Big Ten Conference schools.

Smith’s tie for second matched the best finish of her career, along with being her second-best 54-hole score as a Husker. Smith’s 208 was the second-best score in school history, trailing only her 202 at Westbrook in 2018, when she also set the school record with a second-round 64 (-8).

Smith captured four top-10 finishes in 2018-19, including a tie for sixth (216) to open the season at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic and a tie for sixth at the rain-shortened Rainbow Wahine Invitational to close the fall. She added a tie for eighth (210) at the UNLV Collegiate Showdown.

“Kate is a really good player and understands how to play the game,” Johnson said. “We are going to be looking for Kate to continue to be consistent day in and day out in practice and at our tournaments. If she can bring that consistency and work ethic throughout the season, then she is going to have a really good year.”

Smith will have her sites set on qualifying for NCAA Regional competition, which she accomplished as a true freshman in 2017. In both 2018 and 2019, she just missed the qualifying cut for regionals.

Smith will be joined in the senior class by Haley Thiele and Jessica Haraden.

Thiele has been a significant contributor for the Huskers since an impressive freshman campaign in 2015-16, when she posted a 75.53 stroke average over 32 rounds. A native of Wahoo, Neb., Thiele has battled injuries the past three seasons, including a redshirt year in 2016-17. Last season, she joined Smith in competing in all 27 rounds for the Big Red. Thiele will be counted on for leadership for the Huskers both on and off the course. A three-time WGCA Scholastic

All-American, Thiele cut her 2019 stroke average (76.93) nearly two full strokes from her 2017-18 performance.

A 2019 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and two-time academic All-Big Ten selection, Thiele is hoping to find the form that propelled her to the Trusted Choice Big “I” National Championship in 2015.

Haraden, a fourth-year golfer from Thousand Oaks, Calif., played just three rounds for the Huskers last season but has shown a renewed excitement level in her game entering 2019-20. Haraden may have opportunities to contribute for the Huskers in her final season.

Juniors Noor Ahmed and Hannah Thiele give Nebraska a pair of experienced juniors to add to the mix.

Ahmed has been a frequent member of the Nebraska lineup the past two years, and Thiele has overcome injuries to represent the Huskers at each of the past two Big Ten Championships.

Last season, Ahmed finished with Nebraska’s No. 3 stroke average (76.56). After closing the fall strong with five consecutive rounds of 73 or better, she started the spring on fire. She claimed the best tournament finish of her career by tying for ninth at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. Ahmed continued her solid play to help the Huskers to the Westbrook Spring Invitational title, before being hampered by an injury the rest of the spring. The injury kept her out of Nebraska’s lineup at the Big Ten Championships.

Hannah Thiele battled injury throughout the season, playing just 11 rounds, with eight of those coming in Nebraska’s final three tournaments of the season. Thiele ended her year with a tie for 61st as Nebraska’s No. 3 finisher at the 2019 Big Ten Championships.

Nebraska’s 2019-20 sophomores provided major contributions throughout their freshman seasons.

Vanessa Bouvet produced an impressive fall campaign with 13 consecutive rounds of 79 or better to open her career. She put together one of the best career-opening tournaments by a freshman in school history with a 214 (72-68-74) to tie for third at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic. At Nebraska’s second tournament, she added a final-round 69 (-3) and opened the UNLV Collegiate Showdown with a 71 (-1). She closed the fall campaign with a 70 (-2) to tie for second at the rain-shortened Rainbow Wahine Invitational.

However, after posting four rounds better than par in the fall, Bouvet managed just one sub-par round during the spring with a 71 at the Clover Cup on St. Patrick’s Day. After shooting just one round of 80 or above throughout the regular season, she struggled to a 167 (83-84) to take 84th at the conference tournament.

Despite the rough end to her freshman season, Bouvet still finished with the third-best stroke average by a freshman in school history (75.79) and Nebraska’s second-best average on the season.

Kirsten Baete, a third-year sophomore from Beatrice, Neb., enjoyed a surprise freshman season a year ago. Baete joined Smith and Haley Thiele in competing in all 27 rounds for the Huskers last year and finished with NU’s No. 4 stroke average (77.00).

Baete struggled with her consistency during the fall but still battled her way to a 77.69 stroke average over 13 rounds. In the spring, she got hot and put up 11 consecutive rounds of 79 or better to close the spring regular season with a 75.50 average. She produced a breakthrough performance with a 210 (-6) to tie for fifth at the Westbrook Spring Invitational. Not only was her second-round 66 a school record by a redshirt freshman, it also propelled Nebraska to its first tournament title since winning the Mountain View Collegiate in 2014.

Baete’s streak of sub-80 rounds ended at the Big Ten Championships, but she finished her season with several high notes in the classroom. She captured WGCA Scholastic AllAmerica honors while adding Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and academic All-Big Ten honors.

Megan Whittaker provided another breakthrough season for the Huskers in 2018-19. The true freshman from Elkhorn, Neb., showed steady and significant progress from start to finish during the season.

In the fall, Whittaker managed a 79.81 stroke average over just seven competitive rounds, before slashing her spring average by nearly three strokes (76.86).

Whittaker played her first 16 rounds last year as an individual outside the Husker lineup, before earning her first career lineup spot at the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational to close the regular season. She opened the spring with 11 consecutive rounds of 78 or better - the only other Husker to accomplish that feat in the spring of 2019 was Kate Smith.

Whittaker had her streak snapped with an 83 in the final round of the Lady Buckeye, but bounced back with rounds of 75 and 77 in the rain-shortened Big Ten Championships to tie Smith for Nebraska’s top individual finish (51st).

Whittaker was also strong in her first year academically, claiming WGCA Scholastic All-America honors in 2019.

She built on the impressive growth of her freshman campaign with a solid summer and could be poised to be a leader for the Big Red as a sophomore.

Nicole Hansen, who redshirted in her first year at Nebraska, could be poised to compete for lineup time in 2019-20. The walk-on from Illinois earned a high-level academic scholarship to Nebraska and brings an impressive list of credentials as an all-around athlete.

A three-time Illinois Division 2A High School Championship qualifier at Lake Park High School, Hansen began to focus her attention to golf late in her high school career after also competing in pole vault and hurdles as a freshman and sophomore.

Nebraska’s experienced roster could get a shot in the arm from its only true freshman - Leah Herzog - in 201920. The 2019 Minnesota Ms. Golf, Herzog was a four-time All-Minnesota selection and the 2019 Class 2A individual runner-up while leading Red Wing High School to the state championship. She produced an impressive 69.4 stroke average as a senior after being ranked as the No. 136 recruit nationally by Junior Golf Scorecard in 2019.

Herzog, who was coached by her father, Mark, at Red Wing High School, has an older sister, Stephanie, who is a junior at Iowa this season.

Leah Herzog’s talent and drive to succeed could help the Huskers on the course immediately in 2019-20.

The Huskers face a strong schedule in 2019-20, beginning with the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque (Sept. 9-10). Not only will Nebraska’s trip to New Mexico be the first for Johnson as the Huskers’ head coach, it will also be the Big Red’s first visit to the McGuire Invitational since 1997.

Nebraska continues the fall campaign in Colorado at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Vail, Colo. (Sept. 23-25). It will be the Huskers’ fourth trip in the last seven seasons to the conference challenge - which features teams from 18 different conferences in 2019.

The Huskers head to the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Sammamish, Wash. (Oct. 8-9), before closing the fall season at the Battle of the Beach in San Jose Del Cabo, Mexcio (Nov. 1-3).

Nebraska opens the spring season for the third consecutive year at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, P.R. (Feb. 9-11), before traveling to defend its 2019 tournament title at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz. (Feb. 23-24).

The Huskers return to Arizona for the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz. (March 13-15), before traveling to the Anuenue Spring Break Classic at Kapalua Bay in Maui (March 23-25).

The Big Red will close the regular season with its first-ever trip to The Bruzzy Challenge in Argyle, Texas (March 30-31).

Nebraska returns to Maineville, Ohio, to compete at the 2020 Big Ten Championships (April 24-26). The Huskers will compete for the conference crown on the Arnold Palmerdesigned Tournament Players Club River’s Bend Course, which will serve as the host to the conference tournament for the fourth consecutive season.

NCAA Regional competitions will be held in Athens, Ga., Pullman, Wash., Raleigh, N.C., and South Bend, Ind., (May 11-13), before the NCAA Championships are held at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. (May 22-27).

Haraden helped the Huskers with a trio of lineup appearances in her second season at Nebraska, while also competing in three tournaments as an individual.

The Thousand Oaks, Calif., native made consistent progress in her first season with the Huskers and enjoyed a strong summer of 2017. She opened the season by earning her first career lineup spot at the UNO Invitational at ArborLinks in Nebraska City (Sept. 1-2). She produced a career-best tie for 19th with a 232 (77-76-79) for her first career top-25 finish.

She played as an individual outside the lineup at Nebraska’s Chip-N Club Invitational (Oct. 1-3). Haraden managed a threeround total of 238 (86-75-81) to tie for 35th alongside Husker teammates Emily Gillman and Noor Ahmed at Nebraska’s lone home tournament of the year at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln.

Haraden opened the spring as Nebraska’s top finisher at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 11-13). Haraden fired a careerbest three-round total of 230, while tying her career best with a 73 (par-71) in the opening round. She added rounds of 79 and 78 to tie for 26th overall. She added a 233 (79-74-80) to tie for 81st at the Westbrook Spring Invitational (Feb. 25-26).

Haraden added a career-best 233 (82-74-77) as an individual playing outside the Nebraska lineup at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz. (Feb. 26-27).

She continued to improve her stroke average with three solid rounds while playing as an individual outside the Husker lineup at the Hawkeye El Tigre in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (April 2-4). Haraden carded a 54-hole total of 235 (79-77-79) in Mexico to tie for 54th individually.

Off the course, Haraden earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the spring of 2017. She was also a member of the 2017 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.

A four-year contributor at Oaks Christian High School, Haraden was a California Interscholastic Federation individual finalist in 2014.

The daughter of Marshall and Joanna Haraden, Jessica was born in Los Angeles, Calif., on Nov. 3, 1997. Jessica has an older brother Nick, an older sister, Anna, and a younger brother, Marshall IV. An advertising and public relations major, Jessica claimed a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the spring of 2017. She is a three-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team (2017, 2018, 2019).

The daughter of Kris and Margery Smith, Kate was born May 6, 1999, in Hartford, Conn. She has an older brother, Karter.

Kate is majoring in graphic design and earned academic AllBig Ten honors in 2018 and 2019. She is a six-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. She was also chosen to the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Smith set Nebraska’s season stroke average record with her 73.52 average over 27 rounds.

She produced one of the best tournament performances of her career with a season-best 208 (70-68-70) to tie for second individually while leading Nebraska to the Westbrook Spring Invitational title in Peoria, Ariz. (Feb. 24-25). Her second-round 68 (-4) tied her season best and was part of a season-best round of 276 for the Huskers. It was her fourth top-10 finish of the year and 13th of her career. Nebraska’s tournament title was its first since winning the Mountain View Collegiate in 2014 and came against a field of 14 top-100 teams.

Smith fired a 210 (71-68-71) at the UNLV Collegiate Showdown (Oct. 21-23). Her performance at the Boulder Creek Golf Club included a season-best, four-under-par 68 in the second round on her way to eighth place.

She closed the fall with her fourth consecutive round better than par with a 71 in the only round of the rain-shortened Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Kapolei, Oahu, Hawaii (Oct. 31). She tied for sixth in Hawaii.

Smith opened her junior season with an even-par, threeround total of 216 (73-73-70) to tie for sixth at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. (Sept. 17-19). She added a 230 (76-81-73) to tie for 54th at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Wolcott, Colo. (Sept. 24-26). She was NU’s top finisher at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Highlands Ranch, Colo. (Oct. 5-7), closing at 225 (74-79-76) in a tie for 33rd.

Smith took 12th with a 223 (74-74-75) at the Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio (April 13-14) - her 20th career top-25 finish. She also tied for 16th with a 224 (73-73-74) at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz. (March 15-17).

Smith opened the spring by tying for 45th with a 226 (74-78-74) at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 10-12). She closed her season by tying for 51st (79-73-152) at the Big Ten Championship at TPC River’s Bend in Maineville, Ohio.

SOPHOMORE (2017-18)

Smith produced the best individual scores in school history with a second-round 64 on her way to a 202 (67-64-71) at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz. (Feb. 25-26). She finished third in a loaded field at Westbrook.

She continued to play at a high level at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz. (March 16-18), tying for ninth at 219 (73-74-72) to produce her fifth top-10 performance of the season. Smith added a tie for 13th with a 221 (72-76-73) in a talented field at the Mountain View Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. (March 23-25).

Smith capped 2017-18 by tying for 19th with a 2018 (75-68-75) to lead Nebraska at the Big Ten Championship in Maineville, Ohio (April 20-22). She finished with a then-schoolrecord 73.66 stroke average on the year.

Smith started her sophomore season strong with a runnerup finish at the UNO Invitational at ArborLinks (Sept. 1-2). She fired a 221 (76-70-75) to post the best tournament finish of her career. She also was named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week for the second time in her career.

Smith added her second Big Ten Golfer-of-the-Week honor of the season and third of her career with a then-career-best 212 (69-72-71) to tie for seventh at the Pinehurst Challenge in North Carolina (Oct. 9-10).

She added a third top-10 finish by taking ninth at Nebraska’s Chip-N Club Invitational at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course (Oct. 1-3). Smith closed with a 230 (77-77-76) in challenging scoring conditions to help the Huskers to a runner-up finish.

Smith settled for a tie for 34th (73-80-153) in the stroke play portion of the East & West Match Play Challenge in Madison, Wis. (Sept. 17). She closed the fall as Nebraska’s No. 2 finisher

at the UNLV Collegiate Showdown. She managed a threeround score of 224 (78-71-75) to tie for 49th in Las Vegas.

Through 14 fall rounds, Smith posted a 74.29 stroke average. She opened the spring as Nebraska’s No. 2 finisher at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. She managed a 236 over three rounds to tie for 43rd.

FRESHMAN (2016-17)

Smith opened her Nebraska career in the top of the lineup and played out of the top two spots in every tournament in 2016-17. She produced seven top-25 finishes in 11 tournaments, including four top-10 showings.

She capped her freshman season by tying for 37th in a 96-player field at the NCAA Columbus Regional (May 8-10).

Smith shot 230 (78-79-73) at the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio, as the first Husker women’s golfer to compete in NCAA Regional play since current LPGA pro Madeleine Sheils in 2012.

Smith closed her first season at Nebraska with a thenschool-record 73.90 stroke average over 31 rounds. She carded a 78 or better in 29 of 31 rounds as a freshman, including nine rounds better than par.

Smith produced a season-best three-round score with a 214 (68-75-71) to tie for eighth at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz.

(March 17-19). Her opening-round 68 was a season best.

She closed the regular season with a tie for 28th (78-7572-225) at the Hawkeye El Tigre in Mexico (April 2-4), before producing Nebraska’s top finish at the Big Ten Championships at TPC River’s Bend in Maineville, Ohio (April 21-23). She led the Huskers with a 47th-place finish (74-84-76-234).

Smith earned her best tournament finish of the season by tying for seventh with a three-round total of 215 (73-72-70) at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Highlands Ranch, Colo., (Oct. 7-9). Her efforts in Colorado earned her the first Big Ten Golfer-of-the-Week award of her career on Oct. 12, 2016.

Her performance in Highlands Ranch followed a tie for eighth with a 221 (77-70-74) at Nebraska’s Chip-N Club Invitational (Sept. 25-27). She also tied for eighth (76-70-146) in the stroke play portion at the East & West Match Play Challenge in Ann Arbor, Mich. (Sept. 18-20).

She opened her collegiate career by shooting a team-low 221 (69-74-78) to tie for 15th at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. (Sept. 12-13).

Smith closed the fall with a tie for 21st with a three-underpar two-round total of 141 (70-71) at the rain-shortened UNLV Collegiate Showdown (Oct. 23-25).

She opened the spring campaign with a three-round total of 223 (71-75-77) to tie for 14th at the Central District Invitational in Port St. Lucie, Fla. (Feb. 20-21). Smith added a tie for 31st with a 221 (75-73-73) at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz. (Feb. 26-27).

Smith’s 73.90 stroke average smashed Haley Thiele’s Nebraska freshman-record 75.63 stroke average set in 201516 by a whopping 1.73 strokes per round. Smith’s average surpassed Nebraska’s previous season record of 74.00 set by Natalie Gleadall in 2009-10.

HIGH SCHOOL/AMATEUR

A five-time Minnesota Class 2A state champion (2012-16) and a six-time Class 2A all-state selection (2011-16), Smith was the Minnesota Ms. Golf Award winner in 2016. She posted a 70.37 stroke average as a junior in 2015, and set three couse records as a senior, including a 64 on The Vintage Course.

In addition to her high school success, Smith was the 2012-13 Minnesota PGA Junior Player of the Year and the 2013 Minnesota Girls State Junior Champion. In the summer of 2015, she won the PGA Junior Series title at ArborLinks with a three-day career-best score of 209 (74-68-67.

Smith was also a member of Team Minnesota at the 2015 USGA women’s state championship.

Smith continues Nebraska women’s golf’s success in recruiting the state of Minnesota, following former Huskers Cassie Deeg (Hugo, 2013-16), Steffi Neisen (New Prague, 2011-14), Chrissie McArdle (Eden Prairie, 2004-07) and Jackie Beste (Sauk Centre, 2003-06). All were high-level performers for the Huskers on and off the course over the last 15 years.

Fifth-year senior Haley Thiele (pronounced TEEL) plans to provide leadership and solid scores for the Huskers in 2019-20.

Thiele has battled injuries the past several seasons, but will be hoping for a healthy final campaign at Nebraska.

Thiele has been a star in the classroom and community for Nebraska. She is a three-time WGCA Scholastic All-American and was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2019. She is also a four-time member of Nebraska’s Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.

PERSONAL

Haley is the daughter of Kevin and Lisa Thiele and has four younger sisters, Hannah, Lindsey, Lauren and Brooke. A nutrition, health science and dietetics major, Haley is a threetime WGCA Scholastic All-American (2016, 2018, 2019). She earned academic All-Big Ten honors in 2018 and 2019 and is a six-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.

A Sam Foltz Hero 27 Leadership Award winner in 2018, she is also a four-time Tom Osborne Citizenship Team member.

Thiele joined Kate Smith and Kirsten Baete in Nebraska’s lineup for all 27 rounds in 2018-19. She made adjustments to her swing and saw better results while continuing to overcome injuries. Thiele got off to a solid start, tying for 35th with a 228 (77-76-75) at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. (Sept. 17-19).

She produced her best overall performance with a season-best 218 (72-68-78) to help Nebraska to a team title at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz. (Feb. 24-25). Her season-best four-under 68 was part of Nebraska’s season-best 276 in the second round. She tied for 35th individually.

Thiele battled injury the next time out at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz. (March 15-17), settling for a 244 (81-82-81) to finish 73rd. She battled back to tie for 29th with a 229 (76-77-76) to close the regular season at the Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio (April 13-14). Thiele closed the season with Nebraska’s top individual round - a one-under-par 71 - on the final day of the Big Ten Championship. She tied for 66th at 155 (84-71) in the weathershortened event at TPC River’s Bend in Maineville, Ohio.

She closed the year with NU’s No. 4 stroke average (76.93), which ranked as the 10th-best average by a junior in school history.

Thiele notched her best individual tournament finish of the season by tying for 21st at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Wolcott, Colo. (Sept. 24-26). She led the Huskers with a 219, including a three-under 69 in the final round.

Thiele managed a 234 (77-80-77) to tie for 75th at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate (Oct. 5-7). She added a tie for 74th with a 230 (76-77-77) at UNLV (Oct. 21-23). She closed the fall in a tie for 53rd (81) at the rain-shortened Rainbow Wahine Invite (Oct. 31).

Thiele opened the spring with a 239 (78-81-80) over three rounds at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 10-12) to tie for 76th.

SOPHOMORE (2017-18)

Thiele returned to the Nebraska lineup after redshirting with a wrist injury in 2016-17. She got off to a strong start with a careerbest tie for sixth with a 227 (72-77-78) at the UNO Invitational at ArborLinks in Nebraska City (Sept. 1-2).

She tied for 44th over two rounds of stroke play (79-78-157) at the East & West Match Play Challenge in Madison, Wis. (Sept. 17).

She tied for 30th (78-82-80-240) in challenging scoring conditions at Nebraska’s Chip-N Club Invitational at Wilderness Ridge (Oct. 1-3). She added a tie for 60th at the Pinehurst Challenge in North Carolina (Oct. 9-10) despite a 225 (73-74-78). Thiele added a 231 (75-75-81) to tie for 72nd while playing as an individual at the UNLV Collegiate Showdown (Oct. 22-24).

She struggled to a 259 to finish 66th at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 11-13), but bounced back with her best score of the year with a 218 (74-68-76) at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz. (Feb. 25-26). Her second-round 68 was a season best.

Thiele managed a 249 (86-80-83) to finish 81st at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz. (March 16-18). She did not compete in the regular-season finale at Mountain View in Tucson, Ariz. (March 23-25), before finishing 79th with a 244 (80-82-82) at the 2018 Big Ten Championships in Maineville, Ohio (April 20-22).

REDSHIRT (2016-17)

Thiele redshirted with a wrist injury as a true sophomore in 2016-17.

FRESHMAN (2015-16) Thiele set Nebraska’s freshman record with a 75.63 stroke

average while playing all 32 rounds for the Huskers. The previous NU freshman mark was set by Kate White (76.94) in 2006-07 and has since been broken by teammate Kate Smith (73.90) in 2016-17. Thiele produced Nebraska’s No. 2 finish at the 2016 Big Ten Championships, closing her season with a 222 (75-7374) at The Fort Golf Resort in Indianapolis (April 22-24). Her tie

for 39th was the second-best finish by a Husker freshman at a Big Ten Tournament, trailing only Cassie Deeg’s 32nd in 2013.

Thiele tied the then-Nebraska freshman record with a five-under 67 in the first round of the UNLV Collegiate Showdown (Oct. 25).

She went on to smash Nebraska’s freshman tournament record, while matching first-team All-American Sarah Sasse’s then-schoolrecord tournament score of 209 (67-69-73). Thiele finished in a tie for 18th at UNLV. Thiele finished 11th with a 214 at the Pinehurst Challenge (Oct. 12-13), which included a four-under 68 in the second round. A week earlier, she tied for 17th with a 226 (77-72-77) at Nebraska’s Chip-N Club Invitational at the Country Club of Lincoln (Oct. 5-6). She competed as an individual outside the Husker lineup.

Thiele, who finished with four rounds better than par in 2015-16, fired a one-under 71 in the second round of the Marilynn Smith/ Sunflower Invite to open her career. She was NU’s No. 2 finisher, tying for 39th (88-71-76-235) to lead the players inside the Husker lineup at Colbert Hills (Sept. 7-8).

She tied for 60th (78-76-81-235) at the Golfweek Conference Challenge at the Red Sky Golf Club in Wolcott, Colo. (Sept. 21-23).

She opened the spring by finishing 49th (83-75-158) at the Peg Barnard Invitational in Stanford, Calif. (Feb. 13-14). Thiele matched Cassie Deeg as NU’s No. 2 finisher (76-74-73-223) to tie for 53rd at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz. (Feb. 21-22).

Thiele tied for 49th with a 232 (75-82-75) at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz. (March 11-13), before tying for 31st with a 226 (72-7876) at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Hawaii Invitational, March 22-23.

She tied for 85th (78-79-84-241) in a loaded 18-team field at the Silverado Showdown in Napa, Calif. (April 3-5).

HIGH SCHOOL/AMATEUR

In the summer of 2015, Thiele captured the Trusted Choice Big “I” National Championship a week after tying for third at the Optimist International Junior Championship. She also tied for fifth at the North & South Junior Amateur.

In 2014, Thiele took fourth at the Trusted Choice Big “I” after finishing 12th at the event in 2013.

A two-time Nebraska Girls Amateur of the Year (2013, 2014), Thiele claimed back-to-back state Girls Match Play crowns, while adding the 2013 Nebraska Girls Stroke Play title. She also won the 2013 Nebraska Junior PGA Championship.

A three-time Nebraska Four-State Team member, Thiele was a three-time Nebraska Class C Boys High School State Golf Tournament top-15 finisher. Bishop Neumann did not sponsor girls golf, but Thiele helped her school to a Class C state runner-up finish in 2015 by finishing fourth individually (74-73-147) at Holmes Golf Course in Lincoln, just two strokes back of the boys champion.

Thiele tied for 11th (80-73-153) at the 2014 Nebraska Class C tournament and tied for 13th (80-81-161) at the Class C boys meet as a sophomore. She finished 35th (86-82-168) as a freshman.

In the summer of 2014, Thiele qualified for the U.S. Girls Junior Amateur Championship by winning a sectional qualifying tournament at the Elks Country Club in Columbus with a oneunder-par 71. She competed at the U.S. Junior Championships in Flagstaff, Ariz. Thiele also qualified to compete at the 2015 Junior PGA Championships. She tied for 59th at the 2014 PGA Junior Championship at Trump National Golf Club in Washington, D.C. Thiele defended her state junior match play title in 2014 with a win over her sister. Hannah Thiele settled for second with a loss to her sister in the 2015 final. Haley also finished second to her sister in the 2014 and 2015 state stroke play events.

Thiele was a three-sport high school standout at Bishop Neumann, competing in golf, basketball and volleyball. She drew recruiting interest in all three sports. She was the top female golfer in the state her final three years of high school.

In basketball, Thiele was a second-team All-Nebraska pick by the Omaha World-Herald and a third-team Super-State choice by the Lincoln Journal Star in 2014 and 2015. The two-time first-team Class C-1 all-stater averaged 20.6 points per game as a 5-8 senior shooting guard for the Cavaliers. She averaged 20.5 points per game as a junior in 2014. She also played summer basketball for the Husker Elite and coaches Doug Goltz and Kevin Thiele.

As a volleyball player, Thiele was a starting outside hitter. As a junior in 2013, she produced 142 kills and 335 digs, before adding 145 kills and 317 digs as a senior in 2014.

The daughter of Tamer and Hoda Ahmed, Noor was born April 14, 1999, in Austin, Texas. She has one younger brother, Yusuf. Noor is a history major at Nebraska. She earned academic All-Big Ten honors in 2019, and claimed a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall of 2017.

She was also a member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2018 and 2019.

She chose Nebraska over Sacramento State, San Jose State, Dominican and UNC Greensboro.

Ahmed was one of Nebraska’s top performers despite battling injury as a sophomore. Her 76.56 stroke average over 25 rounds ranked third on the team and eighth all time among Nebraska sophomores.

She started the 2019 spring campaign with the best tournament finish of her collegiate career, tying for ninth with a 218 (72-72-74) in a strong field at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 10-12). Ahmed was the top finisher among the 30 Big Ten golfers in the field.

Ahmed followed with a 224 (77-74-73) to help Nebraska to the team title at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz. (Feb. 24-25). Her second-round 74 was part of NU’s best team round of the season (276), propelling the Big Red to their first tournament title since a win at the Mountain View Collegiate in the spring of 2014.

After a slow start to her season, Ahmed finished the fall season by tying for 17th at the rain-shortened Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Kapolei, Oahu, Hawaii (Oct. 31). Her one-over 73 was her fifth straight round of 73 or better to close the fall.

Ahmed finished the fall with Nebraska’s No. 3 stroke average (76.00). She opened the season with a tie for 62nd at 236 (78-79-79) at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. (Sept. 17-19).

She added a tie for 67th at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Wolcott, Colo. (Sept. 24-26).

Her streak of eight consecutive appearances in the Nebraska lineup came to an end at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Highlands Ranch, Colo. (Oct. 5-7), but she still traveled with the Huskers and competed as an individual.

Ahmed tied for Nebraska’s No. 2 individual finish at the event, shooting a 229 (77-79-73) to tie for 50th.

Ahmed played her way back into the Big Red lineup for the UNLV Collegiate Showdown (Oct. 21-23) and produced one of her best performances. She fired a season-best threeround total of 217 (72-73-72) to tie for 27th as Nebraska’s No. 2 finisher at the tournament.

She struggled in Nebraska’s final two regular-season tournaments, tying for 72nd with a 246 (85-85-76) at the Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio (April 13-14). It followed a 238 (83-81-74) to tie for 61st at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz. (March 15-17). She did not compete at the 2019 Big Ten Championships.

FRESHMAN (2017-18)

Ahmed made immediate contributions to the Nebraska lineup in 2017-18. The freshman from Folsom was one of the top golfers in Northern California while competing for Vista del Lago High School, and she closed her first collegiate campaign with Nebraska’s No. 4 individual stroke average (76.45).

Ahmed was also Nebraska’s No. 2 individual finisher at the 2018 Big Ten Championships, tying for 40th at 225 (72-77-76) at TPC River’s Bend in Maineville, Ohio (April 20-22).

Although she did not earn a lineup spot at the seasonopening UNO Invitational at ArborLinks in Nebraska City (Sept. 1-2), Ahmed posted NU’s No. 5 finish by tying for 17th with a 231 (76-79-76) while playing as an individual outside Nebraska’s lineup.

She earned the first lineup appearance of her career at the East & West Match Play Challenge in Madison, Wis., (Sept.

17-19). In 36 holes of stroke play on Sept. 17, Ahmed tied for 36th (76-78-154). Ahmed played as an individual outside the lineup at Nebraska’s Chip-N Club Invitational (Oct. 1-3). She tied for 35th (82-79-82-242) in challenging scoring conditions at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln.

She competed in her fourth tournament, again as an individual outside the NU lineup, at the Pinehurst Challenge in North Carolina (Oct. 9-10). Ahmed produced a breakthrough effort in North Carolina, firing three consecutive rounds of even-par-72 to finish with a career-best 216 and tie for 22nd.

Ahmed’s performance at Pinehurst helped her secure the second lineup spot of her career in Nebraska’s fall finale at the UNLV Collegiate Showdown (Oct. 22-24). She played solid golf again in Las Vegas, closing with a 227 (76-73-78) to tie for 63rd.

She opened the spring as Nebraska’s No. 3 finisher at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 11-13). Ahmed managed a three-round total of 240 to tie for 55th. She performed well with a 222 (79-73-70), including a career-best final-round 70, to tie for 59th at the Westbrook Spring Invitational (Feb. 25-26).

Ahmed tied for 48th with a 231 (75-75-81) at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz. (March 16-18), before tying for 45th with a 229 (73-79-77) at the Mountain View Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. (March 23-25).

HIGH SCHOOL/AMATEUR

Ahmed came to Nebraska as one of the top players in Northern California. A four-time all-conference golfer for the four-time Capital Athletic League champions at Vista del Lago High School, Ahmed carried a career stroke average of 73.8 as a high school golfer for the two-time San Joaquin Section champions. Ahmed, who qualified for the 2016 California State High School Championships, was the Junior Golf Association of Northern California Match Play Champion in 2013. She also produced multiple top-10 finishes in the Northern California Golf Association in 2015 and 2016.

Ahmed also starred in the classroom, posting a 3.96 gradepoint average. She completed eight Advanced Placement classes by the end of her senior year.

A two-time state girls player of the year and the youngest Nebraska Golf Association Women’s Amateur Champion in state history, Thiele competed in 22 rounds throughout the season, including the Big Ten Championships.

Thiele’s injury kept her out of action throughout the summer of 2017. She competed in her first collegiate event at the East & West Match Play Challenge in Madison, Wis. (Sept. 17-19).

Playing as an individual outside the Husker lineup, Thiele produced a 36-hole score of 160 (76-84).

At UNLV she opened with a 75, but struggled to an 82 in the second round and withdrew from the final round. She closed the fall with a 78.90 stroke average over 10 rounds, with eight of those coming in the Husker lineup.

She opened the spring with a 251 over three rounds to finish 64th at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 11-13). Thiele managed a 244 (83-75-86) to finish 72nd while playing as an individual outside the lineup at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz.

Thiele played as an individual outside the Husker lineup in the final regular-season tournament at the Mountain View Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. (March 23-25). She fired a careerbest 228 (74-76-78) to tie for 37th.

She made her final lineup appearance at the 2018 Big Ten Championships at TPC River’s Bend in Maineville, Ohio (April 20-22). She finished 83rd with a 254 (83-88-83) to close the season with an 80.27 stroke average.

HIGH SCHOOL/AMATEUR

One of the best players the state of Nebraska has ever

produced, Thiele swept the 2016 Nebraska women’s stroke play and match play titles. The 2015 and 2016 Nebraska Golf Association Girls Amateur of the Year, Thiele became the youngest player (18) in the history of the Nebraska Women’s Stroke Play and Match Play tournaments to sweep the titles in 2016. She defeated 19-time stroke (11) and match-play (8) state champion Susan Marchese for the 2016 match-play crown in Oakland.

Thiele won the Nebraska Women’s Amateur Championship with a nine-over-par 225 over three rounds at Norfolk’s Eldorado Hills Golf Course in June of 2016. She won the state stroke play crown by nine strokes in Norfolk.

In addition to her women’s state titles in 2016, Thiele finished fourth at the Optimist International Junior Championship in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. She fired a four-over-par 292 over four rounds. She also won the Nebraska Junior PGA Championship. Thiele captured back-to-back Nebraska Girls Amateur championships in 2014 and 2015 and was the girls state runner-up in 2016.

Hannah defeated her older sister, Haley, a three-time Nebraska Golf Association Girls Amateur of the Year (2013, 2014, 2015), for the 2015 title by carding a two-over-par 146 over two rounds at Four Winds Golf Course in Kimball.

Hannah also defeated Haley for the Nebraska Junior PGA Championship on the Huskers’ home course at Wilderness Ridge in Lincoln in July of 2014. Hannah finished with a twounder-par total of 140 at the 2014 Nebraska Junior PGA. Hannah was also a member of Nebraska’s Four State Team alongside Haley in 2014.

Hannah and Haley teamed to help the Bishop Neumann boys’ golf team to a runner-up finish at the Nebraska Class C state team championship when Hannah tied for 11th individually as a sophomore in the spring of 2015. During Hannah’s freshman season in 2014, the sisters helped Bishop Neumann to a third-place finish at the boys’ state tournament.

Hannah tied for 18th individually.

As a junior in 2016, Hannah finished 12th at the boys’ state high school tournament. She did not compete in high school boys golf during the spring of 2017 after sustaining a back injury as a senior basketball player at Wahoo Bishop Neumann.

An outstanding all-around athlete, Hannah was one of the top shooters in the state. As a junior in 2016, she knocked down 63 three-pointers and led Bishop Neumann in scoring with nearly 12 points per game on her way to honorablemention Class C-1 all-state accolades. She also helped Bishop Neumann to a state tournament berth. Her back injury limited her contributions as a senior on the basketball court.

An outside hitter on the volleyball team, she also led Bishop Neumann to the 2015 Nebraska state tournament by registering 236 kills as a junior in 2015 before leading them to a third-place finish at the 2016 state tournament. Thiele had a double-double in the third-place game to help Neumann finish with a 29-4 record.

Kirsten Baete (pronounced BAY-tee) hopes to contribute for the Huskers in 2019-20 after an outstanding redshirt freshman season. Baete set the Nebraska freshman record with a sixunder-par 66 in the second round of the Westbrook Spring Invitational to help the Huskers to a tournament title.

For the season, Baete’s 77.00 stroke average ranked fifth on the team and was the sixth-best average by a freshman in school history.

The daughter of Chris and Bonnie Baete, Kirsten was born May 5, 1999 and has one younger sister, Jayden. Kirsten is an elementary education/special education K-6 major at Nebraska and was a WGCA Scholastic All-American in 2019. She was also a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and claimed academic All-Big Ten honors in 2019. She is a four-time Nebraska ScholarAthlete Honor Roll selection. She earned a Sam Foltz Hero 27 Leadership Award in 2019, and is a two-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2018 and 2019.

She chose Nebraska over UNK, Creighton, Northwest Missouri State and Kansas State. The Baete’s own a rollerskating rink in Beatrice, and Kirsten grew up playing roller derby.

Baete produced one of the best performances by a freshman in school history with a three-round total of 210 (72-66-72) to tie for fifth and help Nebraska to a team title at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz. (Feb. 24-25).

Baete’s breakthrough performance slashed 21 strokes off her previous collegiate best. Her six-under-par 66 (Feb. 24) was her first round better than par as a Husker and was part of Nebraska’s second-round 276. Baete’s effort in Arizona included the first three rounds at or better than par in her college career. It was the first top-five performance of her career and it came in a 93-player field that featured 14 top-100 teams and seven Big Ten Conference schools.

Baete joined Kate Smith and Haley Thiele in Nebraska’s lineup for all 27 rounds in 2018-19. Baete’s 77.00 stroke average ranked fifth among the Huskers and tied for the sixth-best average by a freshman in Nebraska history.

She followed her effort in Peoria with a tie for 30th at 229 (78-76-75) at the Clover Cup in Mesa (March 15-17). Baete shot 229 again (79-76-74) to tie for 29th at the Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio (April 13-14). She closed the season by finishing in a tie for 80th at 163 (80-83) at the rain-shortened Big Ten Championship at TPC River’s Bend in Maineville, Ohio (April 19-21).

Baete hit the course for the first time as a Husker at Nebraska’s season-opening Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. (Sept. 17-19). Baete finished her first collegiate tournament in a tie for 58th at 225 (83-78-74).

Baete earned a lineup spot for the Huskers again at the Golfweek Conference Challenge (Sept. 24-26) in Wolcott,

Colo. She opened with a solid 75 before adding a final-round 74. She finished in a tie for 59th with a 231.

She made another lineup appearance at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Highlands Ranch, Colo. (Oct. 5-7), managing a 238 (79-83-76) over three rounds to tie for 80th. Baete earned her fourth straight lineup spot and shot a 231 (77-81-73) at the UNLV Collegiate Showdown (Oct. 21-23) to tie for 77th.

Baete closed the fall with a tie for 28th at the rain-shortened Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Kapolei, Oahu, Hawaii (Oct. 31). Baete shot a 75 in the tournament’s lone round to help the Huskers to a third-place team finish.

Baete opened the spring as Nebraska’s No. 3 finisher at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 10-12). She closed with a three-round total of 238 (82-79-77) in a tie for 73rd.

REDSHIRT (2017-18)

A walk-on to the Nebraska program after a strong high school career in Beatrice, Baete redshirted in 2017-18. She earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters of 2017-18. She was also a member of the 2018 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.

HIGH SCHOOL/AMATEUR

Baete joined the Huskers as the 2016 Nebraska Class

B State Champion, winning the title by five strokes while attending Beatrice High School. Baete finished in the top 10 in the state every year at Beatrice, and broke six school records.

She set the best nine-hole average at 38.5 and the best 18hole average at 74.8. Baete also posted the best 18-hole score by a Beatrice golfer at the conference championships with a score of 70, the best 18-hole score (72) by a Beatrice golfer at district championships, and the best 18-hole score (75) by a Beatrice golfer at the state championships.

Additionally, Baete won the most medals by a girls golfer at Beatrice with 40. She was named to the All-State team for two years, and was twice named to the Super-State team. All four years she was named All-River Cities Conference.

She also starred in the classroom, being named to the honor roll every semester, and graduating sixth in her class.

She was also a member of the National Honor Society.

Baete earned three basketball letters at Beatrice.

After putting together one of the best freshman seasons in school history, Vanessa Bouvet (pronounced BOO-vay) hopes to make an impact on the Nebraska lineup as a sophomore in 2019-20. A big hitter with international experience, Bouvet posted Nebraska’s No. 2 stroke average last season, which was good for the third-best average by a freshman in Husker history.

Bouvet will focus on improving her short game to continue to grow as a golfer throughout the season.

Bouvet added an international flavor to the Huskers as a freshman, coming to Lincoln from Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. She also added low numbers as she strived for more consistency in her first season of college golf.

Bouvet’s 75.79 stroke average ranked second on the team and as the third-best average by a freshman in Husker history.

She closed the fall with a career-best tie for second in the rain-shortened Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Kapolei, Oahu, Hawaii (Oct. 31). In the lone round of the tournament, Bouvet fired a two-under-par 70 to finish in a four-way tie for second, just one stroke back of Sam Houston State’s Hannah Alberto.

Bouvet got her collegiate career off to an impressive start by tying for third in a 75-player field at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic (Sept. 17-19). She finished at 214, including a fourunder-par 68 in the second round. Her performance on the second day of the tournament tied for the third-best round by a freshman in Nebraska history. Bouvet was tied for the tournament lead with two-time All-Big Sky golfer Tara Finigan from Boise State through 51 holes, after erasing Finigan’s seven shot lead to open the final round.

Bouvet tied for 40th with a 227 (79-79-69) at the Golfweek Conference Challenge (Sept. 24-26) in Wolcott, Colo. She was Nebraska’s No. 2 finisher at the tournament.

She was NU’s No. 2 finisher again at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Highlands Ranch, Colo. (Oct. 5-7). She closed at 229 (74-79-76) in a tie for 50th, before adding another tie for 50th with a 222 (71-76-75) at the UNLV Collegiate Showdown (Oct. 21-23).

Bouvet opened the spring with a 239 (78-83-78) to tie for 76th at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 10-12), before helping the Huskers to a team title at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz. (Feb. 24-25). Bouvet fired a 224 (73-76-75) at Westbrook. She tied for 72nd individually.

Bouvet notched her third top-25 finish of the season at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz. (March 15-17). She fired Nebraska’s best individual round of the tournament with a final-round 71 (-1) to close at 227 in a tie for 25th at the Longbow Golf Club. She ended the season at the Big Ten Championships by finishing 84th at 167 (83-84).

BEFORE NEBRASKA

Bouvet graduated from Jerudong International School in Brunei in 2018. In the summer of 2017, Bouvet was the runnerup at the 43rd Royal Selangor Golf Club Ladies Amateur Open with a three-round score of 218. She added a runner-up finish at the 29th KGM Open in Sarawak, Malaysia.

In 2016, Bouvet finished third at the Singapore Island Invitational, while also taking fifth at the Belgium International Open. She added a fifth-place finish at the Malaysia Amateur Open in 2017.

She has lived and competed internationally in Syria, Venezuela, New Zealand and in the United States, making her home as a youngster in Houston, Texas. She has also competed in Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Belgium, and in the World Amateur Golf Rankings her home country is listed as France.

A hard-working golfer who showed constant improvement throughout her freshman season, Megan Whittaker will work to continue her growth as a player in 2019-20.

A steady golfer who improved her scores from start to finish last season, Whittaker closed the year with Nebraska’s best performance at the 2019 Big Ten Championships.

The sophomore from Elkhorn, Neb., continued to shave strokes off her game during the summer of 2019 and could be a reliable member of Nebraska’s lineup this season.

Whittaker’s ties to Nebraska women’s golf are very strong, as her mother Kim (Lefler) lettered as a golfer for the Huskers from 1991 to 1994, helping Nebraska advance to the 1994 NCAA West Regional as a senior.

Megan is the daughter of Albert and Kim (Lefler) Whittaker.

Megan was born Sept. 22, 2000 in Omaha. She has a younger brother, Andrew. Megan, who is majoring in finance, earned WGCA Scholastic All-America honors in 2019. She claimed spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters of 2018-19. She was also a member of the 2019 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.

She chose Nebraska over Omaha, South Dakota, Idaho, Montana, Northern Arizona and Wyoming.

Whittaker produced a strong finish for the Huskers as a true freshman. The Elkhorn South High School grad matched Kate Smith for Nebraska’s top individual finish at the Big Ten Championships. Whittaker, who was making just the second lineup appearance of her career, carded Nebraska’s best score in the first round at the conference tournament with a 75, before adding a 77 in the final round to finish at 152 in a tie for 51st.

Whittaker’s improvement throughout the season was remarkable. Through seven fall rounds, she managed a 79.81 stroke average while making the adjustment to the longer courses in college golf. During the spring, she slashed nearly three strokes per round off her game, posting a 76.86 average over 14 rounds, which trailed only Kate Smith (73.79) and Kirsten Baete (76.36) among the Huskers.

Whittaker’s 77.81 stroke average on the season ranked 11th all-time among Nebraska freshmen.

She made her first collegiate appearance at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Wolcott, Colo. (Sept. 24-26), finishing at 243 (80-80-83) to tie for 85th while playing as an individual outside Nebraska’s lineup. She also played as an individual at the UNLV Collegiate Showdown (Oct. 21-23) producing a 233 (79-76-78).

Whittaker closed the fall with a tie for 56th (82) while playing as an individual outside the Husker lineup in the only round of the rain-shortened Rainbow Wahine Invitational (Oct. 31).

Whittaker started strong in the spring with a 233 (78-77-78) to tie for 64th while playing as an individual outside the Husker lineup at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 10-12).

She cut six strokes off her previous tournament best with a 227 (77-74-76) to tie for 81st while playing as an individual outside the Husker lineup at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz.

Whittaker captured back-to-back Nebraska Class A individual state titles in 2016 and 2017. She led Elkhorn South High School and Coach Mimi Ramsbottom to four consecutive Class A state team championships from 2014 through 2017. Whittaker was an Academic All-State selection in golf in 2016.

Whittaker won the 2017 FCWT Tour Championship, and recorded victories in three consecutive NJGT Tour Championships (2014, 2015, 2016). She also claimed the 2016 Nebraska Girls State Match Play crown. She was the 2017 Nebraska Girls Stroke Play runner-up and was a finalist for the 2016 National Drive, Chip and Putt competition.

Whittaker was a three-time Super-State selection on the golf course, and she was also a two-time letterwinner on the track. She helped Elkhorn South to an eighth-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay in 2017. She also competed in the 1,600-meter run and was named an Academic All-State performer in 2017.

A strong all-around athlete, Nicole Hansen redshirted in her first season at Nebraska to make adjustments to college golf.

A high school pole vaulter, hurdler and cheerleader, Hansen began to focus her attention on golf late in her prep career but was still a three-time Illinois Division 2A Championship qualifier at Lake Park High School.

Hansen hopes to see continued growth in her game in her second season in the Husker women’s golf program.

REDSHIRT (2018-19)

Hansen redshirted in her first season at Nebraska. Off the course, Hansen earned a spot on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.

Hansen produced a solid career at Lake Park High School in Illinois. She was a three-time individual state qualifier for the Lancers, while also capturing a regional and sectional title.

She tied for 23rd with a two-round total of 153 (76-77) at the Division 2A state championships as a senior in the fall of 2017.

She was also a state qualifier as a freshman (2014) and junior (2016).

A four-year letterwinner for Coach Jeff Henrickson, Hansen was an All-DuPage Valley Conference performer and a fourtime team MVP. She was also a regular competitor in Illinois Junior Golf Association events.

A talented all-around athlete, Hansen was also a twotime varsity letterwinner in track and field as a freshman and sophomore, competing in the pole vault and the hurdles. She was also a two-time letterwinner as a cheerleader.

She was an outstanding performer in the classroom as a four-time academic all-conference selection who spent all eight semesters on Lake Park’s highest honor roll.

Hansen, who carried a 5.0 GPA in high school, earned a Ruth Leverton academic scholarship to attend Nebraska.

The daughter of Jane Hansen and David Hansen, Nicole was born March 21, 2000, in Elk Grove, Ill. She has an older sister, Rachael, and an older brother, Blake. The 2019 Minnesota Ms. Golf and a four-time All-Minnesota selection, Leah Herzog could make an immediate impact on an experienced Nebraska lineup in 2019-20.

Herzog, who was the 2019 Class 2A individual runnerup while leading Red Wing High School to the state championship, produced a 69.4 stroke average as a high school senior.

During the summer of 2019, Leah partnered with her sister, Stephanie, who is a member of the Iowa golf team, to win the Minnesota Golf Association Amateur Four-Ball Championship.

Herzog joins Kate Smith in continuing a strong tradition of Minnesota golfers at Nebraska. The 2019-20 season marks the 10th consecutive year that the Husker roster has featured at least one golfer from the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

Herzog captured back-to-back Minnesota Class 2A individual state runner-up finishes in 2018 and 2019 at Red Wing High School. She led Red Wing to the 2019 state team title for its sixth consecutive top-three team finish.

Minnesota’s Ms. Golf as a senior in 2019, Herzog posted a 69.4 stroke average on the season, which represented a two-stroke improvement over her junior season.

A four-time all-state selection, Herzog set the Jewel Course record with a six-under-par 65 to claim medalist honors at the Jewel Invite. As a senior, she added the course record with another 65 at The Bridges.

As a sophomore in 2017, Herzog finished seventh individually at state. She finished 23rd at the high school state championship as a freshman in 2016, after taking 17th individually as an eighth-grader in 2015.

In 2015, she helped the Wingers to the state championship.

Red Wing added a state runner-up finish in Class 3A in 2017, and finished third at state in 2014, 2016 and 2018, before adding a Class 2A state championship in 2019.

Herzog was also the 2017 Minnesota Section Girls Junior PGA Championship winner. She finished third at the 2019 Minnesota Girls Junior PGA Championship at the Jewel Club, including a final-round 68. She also won the 2019 U.S. Junior Amateur Sectional Qualifier at Northfork Golf Course in Ramsey.

The Nebraska women’s golf team has regularly featured Minnesota golfers in its lineup for the better part of two decades, since Jackie Beste (Sauk Centre, 2003-06) joined the Huskers. She was followed by Chrissie McArdle (Eden Prairie, 2004-07), Steffi Neisen (New Prague, 2011-14) and Cassie Deeg (Hugo, 2013-16), who all played at the top of the Nebraska lineup before current Husker senior Kate Smith (Detroit Lakes, 2017-present) took the torch. The 2019-20 season marks the 10th consecutive year that Nebraska has had a Minnesotan in its starting lineup. Those five Minnesota golfers have combined to earn 13 academic all-conference honors, eight WGCA Scholastic All-America awards and five Big Ten Sportsmanship awards as Huskers.

PERSONAL

The daughter of Mark and Pam Herzog, Leah has two older brothers, Patrick and Jordan, and two older sisters, Brittany and Stephanie. Her father, Mark, was Red Wing’s head golf coach through her senior season. Stephanie is a junior golfer at Iowa in 2019-20. Leah has spent her summers playing, working at the golf course in Red Wing and teaching junior golfers.

Herzog plans to major in management through the College of Business at Nebraska.

BIG TEN CONFERENCE Known as one of intercollegiate sports’ most successful undertakings, the Big Ten is home to a lineage of legendary names and an ongoing tradition of developing strong leaders. Even in its infancy, the conference established itself as the preeminent collection of institutions in the nation, where the pursuit of academic excellence prevailed as the definitive goal.

The Big Ten is a national leader in intercollegiate athletics on and off the field, as schools have combined to win more than 450 team and 1,800 individual national championships.

The history of the Big Ten traces back nearly 125 years to the Palmer House hotel in Chicago, where on Jan. 11, 1895, then-Purdue president James H. Smart and leaders from the University of Chicago, Illinois, Michigan, Kevin Warren Minnesota, Northwestern and Wisconsin set out to organize and develop Commissioner principles for the regulation of intercollegiate athletics.

At that meeting, a blueprint for the administration of college athletics under the direction of appointed faculty representatives was outlined. The presidents’ first known action “restricted eligibility for athletics to bona fide, full-time students who were not delinquent in their studies.” That important legislation, along with other legislation that followed in coming years, served as the primary building block for intercollegiate athletics.

On Feb. 8, 1896, one faculty member from each of those seven universities met at the same Palmer House and officially established the mechanics of the conference, which was officially incorporated as the “Intercollegiate Conference Athletic Association” in 1905.

Indiana and Iowa became the eighth and ninth members in 1899. In 1908, Michigan briefly withdrew, and in 1912 Ohio State joined the conference, bringing its membership back to nine. Upon Michigan’s return in 1917, the conference was first referred to as the “Big Ten” by media members, and that name was eventually incorporated in 1987.

As the 1900s opened, faculty representatives established rules for intercollegiate athletics that were novel for the time. As early as 1904, the faculty approved legislation that required eligible athletes to meet entrance requirements and to have completed a full year’s work, along with having one year of residence.

In 1901, the first Big Ten Championship event was staged when the outdoor track and field championships were held at the University of Chicago. The debut event marked what is now a staple of conference competition. Today, the Big Ten sponsors 28 official sports, 14 for men and 14 for women, including the addition of men’s ice hockey and men’s and women’s lacrosse over the last four years. Big Ten schools compete in a total of 42 sports, furthering the conference’s commitment to broad-based programming and providing more participation opportunities than any conference in the country.

One of the conference’s proudest traditions began in 1902 when Michigan faced Stanford in the Rose Bowl, the nation’s first bowl game. Big Ten teams appeared in Pasadena twice before the conference signed an exclusive contract with the Tournament of Roses in 1946, making it the first bowl game with permanent conference affiliations.

Coupling the academic goals set forth by the leaders of the charter members of the conference and their steadfast commitment to athletics, the conference instituted the Big Ten Medal of Honor in 1915. It is awarded annually by each conference institution to a student of the graduating class who has attained the greatest proficiency in scholarship and athletics. For more than 100 years, it has been the most prestigious honor a student competing in Big Ten athletics can receive.

In 1922, Major John L. Griffith became the conference’s first “Commissioner of Athletics.” Griffith was the first of six men to assume the role of commissioner in the conference’s history, followed

by Kenneth L. “Tug” Wilson in 1945, Bill Reed in 1961, Wayne Duke in 1971 and James E. Delany in 1989. Those five served prior to current Commissioner Kevin Warren, who assumed the role on Sept. 16, 2019. Delany announced his retirement on March 4, 2019, concluding a 30-year career with the conference on Jan. 1, 2020.

After nearly 30 years with 10 members, the conference consolidated to nine schools when the University of Chicago formally withdrew its membership in 1946. Michigan State was added to the Big Ten three years later, bringing the number of affiliated conference schools to 10 once again.

In 1955, the Big Ten formulated a revenue-sharing model designed to pool all football television rights of its members and share those proceeds equally. The conference and its members continue to utilize a revenue-sharing model, dividing media rights, bowl payouts and other profits among all institutions.

While academics have always played an integral role, presidents of the Big Ten member institutions formalized the primacy of academics with the establishment of the Big Ten Academic Alliance (formerly the Committee on Institutional Cooperation) in 1958. The Big Ten Academic Alliance is an academic consortium of all Big Ten universities. Annually, the schools currently constituting the Big Ten Academic Alliance produced over $10 billion in funded research, $5 billion more than any other conference.

In one of Duke’s first actions as commissioner, he oversaw the adoption of the Big Ten Advisory Commission in 1972, designed to study conference programs and make suggestions which would further Big Ten objectives. The Advisory Commission enlists former students that competed in Big Ten athletics to serve as liaisons to the NCAA’s Diversity and Inclusion Department, the Big Ten Student-Athlete Advisory Commission and other organizations.

In 1981, the conference presidents and chancellors endorsed a proposal that enabled universities to affiliate their women’s intercollegiate programs with the conference, and the first conference championships for women were staged that fall. The Big Ten was the first conference to voluntarily adopt male and female participation goals after launching its Gender Equity Action Plan in 1992.

In December of 1989, the conference agreed in principle to invite Penn State for membership. On June 4, 1990, the Council of Presidents officially voted to integrate Penn State into the conference, giving the Big Ten 11 members.

In 2004, the Big Ten implemented a pilot program of instant replay for college football. Following the season, the conference forwarded replay proposals to the NCAA regarding the future use of instant replay, where it approved country-wide testing in 2005. In 2006, the NCAA approved the use of instant replay for all conferences.

In 2006, Delany announced the creation of the first conference-owned television network, a 20-year agreement with FOX Networks to create what would become the Big Ten Network (BTN). Launched on Aug. 30, 2007, BTN now produces more than 1,800 events across all platforms each year. BTN is in almost 60 million homes in the United States and Canada via the nation’s major video providers and more than 300 additional video providers across the country. BTN is also available through the majority of OTT providers, and via the Fox Sports App, which delivers live and on-demand programming to computers, smartphones and tablets. BTN Plus streams hundreds of additional events each season.

On June 11, 2010, the Big Ten Council of Presidents/Chancellors (COP/C) approved a formal membership application by Nebraska, expanding the conference to 12 institutions. Nebraska joined the Big Ten on July 1, 2011.

The conference expanded its footprint further in 2012 when the COP/C approved formal membership applications from Maryland (Nov. 19) and Rutgers (Nov. 20). Maryland and Rutgers became official Big Ten members on July 1, 2014, giving the conference almost 9,500 students participating in intercollegiate athletics and more than 11,000 participation opportunities on 350 teams.

Since opening in the fall of 2013, the Big Ten conference center hosts more than 300 meetings annually for member institutions, Big Ten Academic Alliance (formerly CIC) related committees and coaches’ groups. The headquarters also features an interactive digital museum - the Big Ten Experience – which brings the conference’s storied academic and athletic history to life. In June 2014, the Big Ten opened a second office in New York City, featuring both office and meeting space in Midtown Manhattan. Big Ten staff members are based in the New York City office to provide expanded coverage and service, while other conference and institutional administrators utilize the space as necessary when conducting business on the East Coast. The Big Ten and its member institutions also have access to satellite office space in Washington, D.C. The Big Ten staff works to meet the educational needs of students competing in intercollegiate athletics to allow them to excel in all areas of their lives. The conference office manages 28 different championships and tournaments, offers legislative and compliance services, oversees the production and distribution of more than 2,000 events annually, provides staff services to coaching and administrative personnel, and services media and fans interest for information on the Big Ten.

HUSKERS SET SCHOOL STROKE AVERAGE RECORD

Vanessa Bouvet made an instant impact on the Nebraska lineup in 2018-19. The freshman from Brunei produced the Huskers’ No. 2 stroke average (75.79) while capturing a pair of top-five individual tournament finishes.

The Nebraska women’s golf team set its season stroke average record for the second straight year, and Kate Smith produced another record-setting season in 2018-19.

Nebraska’s 298.96 team stroke average was its best in history and capped the 32-year career of Head Coach Robin Krapfl, who retired after the season. Krapfl’s final year was highlighted by a title at the Westbrook Spring Invitational.

The Huskers finished with a three-round team total of 853 (-11) on the 6,252-yard, par-72 layout of the Vistas Course at Westbrook Village Golf Club in Peoria, Ariz. Nebraska’s title came against a 16-team field that featured 14 top-100 teams in the nation, including seven Big Ten Conference programs.

The win gave Krapfl her 31st career tournament title at Nebraska. The two-time Big Eight Coach of the Year led the Huskers to three NCAA Championship appearances (2000, 2003, 2006) and 11 NCAA Regional bids in her time leading the Huskers.

Smith was sensational shooting the Huskers to victory at Westbrook. The junior from Detroit Lakes, Minn., finished at 208 (-8) to tie for second in a loaded tournament field. It matched the best tournament finish of her career, along with being her second-best 54-hole score as a Husker. Smith’s 208 was the second-best score in school history, trailing only her 202 at Westbrook in 2018, when she also set the schoolrecord with a second-round 64 (-8).

Smith’s 73.52 stroke average on the season broke her own school record for the second straight year. She captured four top-10 finishes on the season, including a tie for sixth (216) to open the season at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic and a tie for sixth at the rain-shortened Rainbow Wahine Invitational to close the fall. She added a tie for eighth (210) at the UNLV Collegiate Showdown.

Smith added two more strong finishes during the spring with a 12th-place performance at the Lady Buckeye Invitational (223) and a tie for 16th at the Clover Cup. Through the first three years of her career, Smith has produced 13 top-10 finishes among her 20 top-25 showings to go along with her school-record 73.70 career average.

While Smith joined fellow juniors Haley Thiele and Jessica Haraden in providing leadership for a young Nebraska team

that featured no seniors, freshmen Vanessa Bouvet, Kirsten season, before earning another lineup spot at the Big Ten Baete and Megan Whittaker bolstered the Big Red lineup.

Championships. At the conference tournament, Whittaker Bouvet put together one of the best freshman seasons matched Smith at 152 to tie for 51st and lead the Huskers. in school history with her 75.79 stroke average over 24 Sophomore Noor Ahmed and redshirt junior Haley rounds. LARRY ROMJUE (1975-79)

The first head coach of the Nebraska women’s golf team, Larry Romjue guided the program to a successful start in its first four seasons. Under Romjue, the Huskers won the 197576 Big Eight Conference title, qualified for the 1976 AIAW Championships and finished second at the AIAW Region Six meet in 1977. Romjue retired in 2001 after 31 seasons as the men’s coach.

The second head coach of the Nebraska women’s golf team, Jerry Fisher led the Huskers to 12 tournament titles, including the 1980-81 AIAW Region Six championship and the 1983 Big Eight Tournament championship. He spent eight seasons as Nebraska's head coach.

In addition to his Husker head coaching duties, Fisher served as the head golf pro at the Country Club of Lincoln from 1972 to 1987.

ROBIN KRAPFL (1987-2019)

The third head coach of the Nebraska women’s golf team, Robin Krapfl led the Huskers to 31 tournament victories, 11 NCAA Regional appearances and three NCAA Tournament berths (2000, 2003, 2006). A two-time Big Eight Coach of the Year, Krapfl spent 32 seasons as NU's head coach after serving as the women’s golf assistant coach for three years. She has guided the Big Red to more than 2,300 victories and led NU to 100-win seasons on 10 occasions. She retired following the 2018-19 season.

NEBRASKA’S NCAA ALL-AMERICANS The first NCA A AllAmerican in Nebraska women’s golf history, Joanne Brooks was one of the best golfers ever to compete for the Huskers.

When Brooks completed her eligibility after the 1993 season, she held nearly every NU individual school record.

She ear ned All - Big Eight Conference and academic AllBig Eight honors three times.

Joanne Brooks Brooks won the Edith Munson 1989-92 Award given to the nation’s top Honorable-mention, student-athlete, was named an 1992 WGCA Scholastic All-American in 1990, 1991 and 1992, and was named to Nebraska’s 25 Women of Distinction List in April 2000.

A native of Tauranga, New Zealand, Brooks was the Nebraska Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President.

Sarah Sasse became Nebraska's first women's golfer to earn first-team All-America honors in 2003. One of 11 golfers to make the All-America list, Sasse was the only Big 12 golfer selected. Sasse was the 2003 Big 12 Player of the Year, a 2003 Scholastic All-American, the 2003 April Big 12 Golfer of the Month, a three-time All-Big 12 honoree, a four-time Sarah Sasse academic All-Big 12 pick and a 1998-2003 three-time NCAA participant.

First-team, 2003 She also set the school record for best 36- and 54-hole scores with 138 and 209, respectively. The Lincoln native graduated from Nebraska in 2003 with a degree in marketing. She was selected as the first women’s golfer inducted into the University of Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015.

THE UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA

The University of Nebraska was chartered by the Nebraska Legislature in 1869 as the state’s public university and landgrant institution. Founded in Lincoln, the University of Nebraska was expanded in 1968 into a state educational system now comprising four campuses under the guidance of a Board of Regents and a central administration.
