RECHT IN DE OGEN SCREENINGS: TUE, MAY 4 (22H) IN CINEMA ZED
Eight youngsters from a technical school (7 boys and 1 girl) do not feel like traditional finals. They want something else. Together they decide to renovate an uninhabited house and turn it into a community centre. The film tries to tackle all prejudices that exist regarding students in technical schools. The prejudice that they are less educated lives on, even in the youngsters’ self-image, and some of them behave like it. Recht in de Ogen (Straight in the Eyes) tries to prove that high-quality vocational education exists and these students are no less than others. The pupils succeed in being the best example and in convincing you easily with their humour and their wisdom.

8 jongeren uit het beroepsonderwijs (7 jongens en 1 meisje) hebben geen zin in een traditioneel eindwerk. Ze willen iets anders. Ze besluiten samen een leegstaand huis te renoveren en om te bouwen tot buurthuis. De film tracht de vooroordelen die er huizen rond beroepsopleidingen te tackelen. Ook in het zelfbeeld van de jongeren leeft het vooroordeel dat ze een mindere vorm van opleiding volgen en sommigen gedragen zich hier dan ook naar. ‘Recht in de Ogen’ probeert aan te tonen dat er ook kwaliteitsonderwijs kan bestaan op het niveau van beroeps onderwijs en dat deze leerlingen niet minder zijn dan andere. De leerlingen slagen er in om zelf als beste voorbeeld te dienen en je gemakkelijk te overtuigen door hun humor en levenswijsheid.
