HILLSBORO BANK Hillsboro Bank was founded on the ideal of community banking, where customers “feel known, understood, and supported.” The dream of ten visionary business leaders, they envisioned a financial institution with a solid banking relationship for individuals and businesses in our community to thrive, prosper and grow. The founding directors included Tony Azorin, Gary Boothe, Ron Daniel, Dot Harkala, Andy Mueller, Tom Poppell, Mac Smith, Mike Sparkman, Don Stine, and Hank Varnum. The late Tom Poppell served as the first Chairman of the Board and the late Ron Daniel was named President and CEO. This group had a vision and within a couple of months raised the needed capital through stock sales to create the Hillsboro Bank. In July 1998, Hillsboro Bank opened its doors for the first time. Today, the hometown bank continues to operate on the values instilled by the founding leaders. “When you call Hillsboro Bank, a person answers- not a machine,” said Senior Vice President/COO Pam Warnock. “When you walk through the doors of the bank, you’re greeted by name. Without our customers, our Bank doesn’t exist and therefore we strive to provide excellent customer service with every transaction.” The thriving bank continues to be locally owned and managed by directors, stockholders and employees who have deep community ties and share the same philosophy. Based on earnings, asset quality, capital, growth and liquidity, the Banker’s Caddy algorithm designated the Hillsboro Bank as Best Community Bank in Florida in 2018 with a #1 ranking for performance.
