As a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentists (AAPD), Dr. Dana has advice for parents regarding their children’s teeth. ”Children should have their first visit to a pediatric dentist no later than one year of age”

Candy and Sodas - Dr. Dana says it’s okay to have candy, and that it’s not so much what you eat, but how often you have it. “So let’s say you have candy at night and you brush your teeth. That’s okay. But if you’re sipping on a Coca Cola all day long, that sugar sticks on your teeth all that time and that’s where the bacteria grow.” Brush or at least have water afterwards to rinse the sugar off. Braces - The American Academy of Orthodontists recommends the first visit no later than age 7 to evaluate the child for any interceptive treatment necessary, such as crossbite and abnormal jaw growth. Dr. Dana cautions, “You don’t see a lot of things happening in the back of the mouth. If untreated, asymmetry of the jaw can cause further damage. Early Interceptive Orthodontics can prevent problems that lead to crowded teeth and poor bite relationships. “ Busciglio Smiles Tooth Fairy - Dr. Dana says, “Yes, absolutely, you should you have a tooth fairy at your house! And,” she continued, “be watching your child’s school news for the Busciglio Smiles Tooth Fairy coming soon.” (Reports say there will be a good tooth fairy and a
rotten tooth fairy to teach dental hygiene in area schools.) Happy to be Home Again Dr. Dana Busciglio is the youngest of six Busciglio children. The Brandon High School graduate (1996) and University of Florida alumni (Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition, 2000) is happy to be back in the Tampa Bay area with her large extended family. Community involvement also comes natural to Dr. Dana. She holds professional memberships in the American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, Hillsborough County Dental Society, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and American Association of Orthodontics. During college she volunteered in the Shands Hospital dental clinic, organized outreaches to underserved children in Boston, and served on missionary trips to Haiti and the Dominican Republic. At Tufts she was a voting member of the admissions committee and President of the Hispanic Dental Association. Upon graduation, she received the Massachusetts Hispanic Dental Association Student Community Service Award and the Esther Kaplan Colchamiro and Ralph Colchamiro
endowed prize fund for Community Service and Public Health. Obviously, Dr. Dana is a doer and a giver. Of her return to eastern Hillsborough County, she says, “I look forward to helping out in the local community.” In short, Dr. Dana is just happy to be a part of the dental practice her father started in 1972. What she’s learned is that the Busciglio Orthodontic offices are “still the happy places I remember them being when I was a kid. Derek and I are very close and we love working together as colleagues and mentors. We’re especially excited now about the opportunity to serve the families of Plant City.” Busciglio Smiles is now scheduling new patient exams for Pediatric Dentistry at the Plant City location and continues to provide orthodontic treatment at all three locations. Call 813-759-9474 today for a consultation appointment. Feel free also to the Tooth Fairy to visit your student’s school.
