night of celebration with former classmates while reminiscing the good ole days - what could be more fun? Approximately 300 alumni of Turkey Creek High School (TCHS), along with former faculty, friends and family came together May 28, 2011 at the Brownlee Barn for a “Sock Hop”. The evening began with friends catching up and searching for familiar faces of former classmates. Some even arrived in ‘50s apparel. The students joined in singing their Alma Mater. “We have living history here tonight with Mrs. Thompson, class of 1936 and Mr. Brownlee, class of 1938,” said James Jones, 1949 drum major, as he opened the evening festivities. Not only were alumni in attendance, but former faculty as well: Ms. Nevoline Cowan, Mr. Thomas McPherson, Coach Reed and Coach Brown. The current principal of Turkey Creek Middle School, Dennis Mayo, also attended.

Southern Style Catering provided a mouth-watering southern dinner. Door prizes with TCHS logo also were part of the fun. Thomas Bevill, a local DJ, provided music from the past. The rain pounding on the barn roof and dripping in a few places didn’t put a damper on the festivities. Everyone just huddled closer together. When asked what the evening meant to her, Jan Stanaland Albritton commented, “A fun night to renew with some acquaintances, and a chance to see people that I haven’t seen since high school.” The Sock Hop was an enjoyable evening for many old friends who were happy to be together just as if very little time had passed. With those who recall high school as some of the best years of their lives, the TCHS alumni on this evening would most definitely agree.
