Do you have any crazy stories from your years of performing? Malloy: There was the time I was wearing red leather pants and they split from the front to the back of the crotch to reveal my tighty whitey’s. Maybe God was trying to tell me no more red leather pants. I think I’ve worn them since though, a different pair of course. Then there was the time a girl jumped up on stage with her arms out lunging for me, running around the stage. She had a CRAZY look in her eyes. I was a little freaked out. The look in her eyes was one I didn’t recognize. There was no time to be flattered – it was more just like, “Run for your
life!” Thankfully the roadies grabbed her before I became possessed.
2. What sort of
impact has growing up in North Dakota had on you? Malloy: Huge. I think I look at things in a much more down to earth and grounded way because of it. It also has made me proud to be from there and proud of all the travel and things I’ve done since I left. My father, the late Judge Harry Malloy, was very proud to be a North Dakotan and he instilled that in me.
3. What are you up to these days? Malloy: I’m working on a
new acoustic live CD. I’m recording songs live in my studio and recording them for YouTube at the same time. I love recording live. I have one song from it posted on YouTube now. It’s called “On And On Acoustic” and it features Keith Howland, the lead guitar player from the band Chicago, sitting next to me also singing background. He’s my buddy and we wrote the song together and he played most of the leads on the last CD which was called Mitch Malloy II and it’s a tribute to the first CD. I have as special guests Phil Collen – lead guitar player from Def Leppard, Hughie McDonald – bass player from Bon Jovi, Keith Scott – lead guitar player for Bryan Adams, Des Dickerson – lead guiar
