Audiology & Hearing Aids Hearing Solutions

Hearing allows us to appreciate the beauty of music, the rhythm of language, and the soothing sounds of nature. It connects us to the voices of our loved ones, allowing for communication, understanding, and emotional connection. The team at Hearing Solutions understands this wholeheartedly.

Hearing Solutions started 21 years ago with three professionals coming together to bring 70 years of experience into one clinic. Dr. James Frisk, his son Dr. Matthew Frisk, and Brad Grondahl from the Fargo Hearing Aid Center combined clinics to form Hearing Solutions in early 2000. David Ross was introduced a year later and has added expertise in the fitting of high-end amplification to patients with mild to profound hearing loss.

Hearing Solutions has repair options for all makes of hearing aids and most aids are repaired in office. "Ear wax is our natural enemy with hearing aids due to the fact that it infiltrates the receiver and in many cases the microphones," Hearing aid specialist David Ross explains. “We are able to change wax traps as well as clean microphone ports to ensure that patients experience a long life to the electronic investments in their ears."

Hearing Solutions was the first clinic in North Dakota to offer cochlear implantation evaluation and programming thanks to the rigorous training Dr. Matthew Frisk received at the University of Louisiana, the University of Florida, and his factory training in cochlear and advanced bionics. Dr. Frisk has been able to provide cochlear implant patients the gift of hearing when traditional amplification methods were

unable to meet the demands of their hearing loss.

Co-owners David Ross and Matthew Frisk, AuD employ a team of professionals, Dr. Emily Huber, Dani Brotchard, and Kim Essig to evaluate and manage hearing instrumentation. Hearing Solutions is the only private practice clinic in Fargo to offer complete hearing care with microscopy-aided ear cleanings, a full hearing assessment, and is trusted with the Fargo Public School systems to provide testing and treatment for hearing-impaired children within the district.

WELCOME.

first heard about the "Faces of" concept in 2016 from a publisher out of Omaha, Nebraska. They had created a magazine that helps promote local business by featuring a "Face" of a specific business type (e.g. "Face of Architecture"). This publisher found that the publication was able to connect community members with local Omaha businesses. From there, I talked to other publishers and wanted to see how the publication was received in their markets. Overall, we found that the feedback was really great in those regions, too.

Of course, I love and will always champion the idea of promoting community. That's why in 2021, we decided to bring this concept to the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo, and Bismarck-Mandan communities. And in 2022, we continued to create this publication in those markets while also bringing the concept to Sioux Falls.

At all of our stops along the way, we have received such great feedback that we are bringing it back for our third annual issue.

We hope you enjoy this publication and take the opportunity to get to know some of the people behind our thriving business community.

In 13 years, we have been able to create over 500 magazines. All of which are solely based on telling positive community stories! This is another piece to that puzzle and I truly believe you will enjoy reading about your friends and neighbors in the ensuing pages.

This publication is considered a "native advertising piece" in the publishing industry. This means that each "Face of" is a sponsored page and paid for by that advertiser. However, this is not a "Best of" publication—it is simply a way for our community to see some of the "Faces" of respective businesses. In turn, we are connecting our readers to businesses they may not even be aware of.

By making this a sponsored magazine, we were able to produce the publication at a high quality and provide 40,000 copies free to the public. Our sales and editorial teams worked to ensure that we reached out to credible "Faces" of the categories we chose. Our goal is for readers to enjoy learning more about some of the people behind the businesses that make our community flourish. Hopefully, it will create a better sense of community and also encourage more of us to shop local!

Sugar Tech & Vocational Trades

American Crystal Sugar Company Ben Doyle & Eric Wagner

American Crystal Sugar Company significantly affects the region’s economic landscape. The company works with 2,600 Red River Valley sugarbeet growers, processing and marketing its products to the nation’s largest food brands—including Hershey’s, Kraft, and Kellogg’s, to name a few.

That success is only possible because of the nearly 2,000 employees at seven locations who are constantly transforming the company. Two of the company’s greatest advocates are Ben Doyle and Eric Wagner.

As you can imagine, the technology required to support a leading agricultural/manufacturing operation

is enormous. Steering that ship is Eric Wagner, the director of IT.

“My team loves to build and create,” Wagner says. “Their solutions keep this company on the leading edge of the nation’s sugar stage.”

Ben Doyle, the director of workforce development, travels the tri-state area singing the praises of other American Crystal career paths.

“People think you need a university degree to have a fulfilling career. We present another choice. Because we continually invest in developing employees, there are endless opportunities for vocational-minded people to advance,” Doyle says.

His interest led him to attend Minnesota State Community and Technical College for diesel technology, and before he graduated, he founded Olson Diesel Performance.

After graduation, Olson decided to advance his education by completing a certification in diesel programming in Birmingham, UK. Once he arrived home, he started growing his business.

Olson Diesel Performance is a full-service diesel performance and repair shop. They service everyone

from local trucking companies, farmers, and construction operations with diagnostic software and other upgrades to increase fuel efficiency. They also provide industry-leading ECM programming to keep engines running at peak efficiency in order to achieve maximum longevity.

“We have a shop in Fargo to support local clients, but our main focus is remote-access work for over 25 truck repair shops across the USA,” Grant said. “We can provide remote services to repair shops or clients that have their own computer and internet connection. Our goal is to provide upgrades for light to heavy duty engines to improve fuel efficiency and decrease downtime.”

They also donate to the NDSU agriculture and clean water programs. Olson is proud to give back to the community, which he has been a part of for over seven years.

“West Fargo has been my home since 2016. I enjoy the local food and entertainment it provides,” Grant said. “It’s a growing city, but it still has small-town elements to it.”

Commercial & Residential Fencing

Dakota Fence

32 | FACES OF FARGO-MOORHEAD-WEST FARGO 2023

Dakota Fence is a family-owned business spanning three generations. Founders Dave Currier, his brother Dan Currier, and their father Dick Currier all joined forces and started the company from their backyard garage in 1972. The family business soon outgrew the garage and transformed into the company you know today.

The company’s success in the 1970s led to the creation of multiple companies along the way. DFC Company became the parent company to Dakota Fence and several additional operating companies—Dakota Playground, 3D Specialties, Sign Solutions USA, Park & Play USA, Town & Country Fence, Dakota Unlimited, International Security Products, and DFC Property Management.

DFC Company and its operating companies sell and install all types of fencing, traffic control equipment, highway guardrail, commercial playgrounds, park site amenities, signs, and more. In 2015, Joe Currier took over as President and CEO of DFC Company. Joe and his siblings, John Currier and Amy Mickelson, own DFC Company and steer it into the future.

At Dakota Fence and its sister companies, they strive to provide quality products, superior service, and competitive pricing every time. Plus, the team is committed to safety, teamwork, accountability, and service in everything they do.

Along with winning numerous awards, including the Locals Love Us “Best In Fence” award this year, Dakota Fence and DFC Company prioritize giving back to the community. In fact, DFC Company has

several committees designed to help their employees give back.

The True Blue Committee is an elected group of employees from all branches and departments who research volunteer opportunities and encourage others to use their volunteer hours, which are given to every full-time employee. The Giving Committee is tasked with allocating funds to 501(c)(3) nonprofits and other local organizations in need. Furthermore, DFC Company holds an annual United Way campaign, and all funds given by employees are matched by ownership.

What began as a backyard operation with three employees has grown to over 500 Blue Family team members across six branches and 10 operating companies. However, after all these years, DFC Company is still a family business, and is proud to serve the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo community.

Red River Drywall & Decorating Services

Red River Drywall & Decorating Services has been providing quality drywall services to the FMWF area since 1996. The drywall company was founded by John Koerselman and grew to also offer custom paint services, window treatment sales, and installation services. In January 2023, Red River Drywall became a woman-owned business when former employee Jeramie Peterson purchased the company. Under the new ownership, Jeramie intends to operate and grow using the same values instilled by their founder in order to offer the highest quality products and services in drywall.

“We have built a team that cares about the quality of work that’s put into homes, led by our construction manager Jeremy Becker who oversees the entire drywall process,” Jeramie said. “We also have an in-house design consultant, Sheri Jacobson, to help homeowners make their drywall selections for paint color, corner bead, and texture choices. Sheri is also the head of our Window Coverings division, Brilliant Blinds and Shades, which offers window treatment sales and installation services.”

Red River Drywall prides themselves on delivering high-quality customer satisfaction with every project, whether for a homeowner or one of their builders. Their construction manager works directly with the builder’s superintendents or homeowners and monitors the house from sheetrock stock to when the painting has been completed. At the end of a project, they come back into each home to do touch-ups and fix any issues that occurred during the finishing stage of the home completion. They also include a one-

year warranty on their work, and will come back after a year to fix any cracks or issues that occurred due to settling and natural home movement.

Red River Drywall is one of the only drywall companies to offer a full-service experience from selection to completion of your project. They’ve also been named Top Drywall Company by Locals Love Us for three consecutive years!

“The people of Fargo-Moorhead, West Fargo, Horace, and surrounding communities are the reason we are the company we are today. We are blessed to be part of such incredible communities that continues to grow and thrive,” Jeramie said.

NOT ALL GAPS ARE THIS OBVIOUS!

Saying nobody likes paying for insurance is not true. The more accurate statement is nobody likes paying for insurance that has gaps and doesn’t cover them properly when they need it.

For more than eight years, Ryan and the Good Neighbors have uncovered thousands of these gaps in coverage and filled those holes in protection with proper recommendations and policy options. Do you currently have one of the two most common gaps and

not know it? Take a quick peek at your policies to find out if you could benefit from sitting down with a Good Neighbor.

Here is what to look for:

Auto Insurance - If you have liability limits like 30/60/10, 25/50/25, 50/100/50, or 100/300/100 allow the experts at Ryan Kill's Agency to educate you on what these numbers mean. We will also explain the significant risk associated with carrying these limits in today’s litigious world.

Homeowner’s Insurance - If your current backup of sewer and drain endorsement is only for $5,000, $10,000, or $25,000 ask yourself if that amount

would cover repairing or replacing your basement to its original condition. If you realize that coverage amount is way too low, give us the opportunity to show you what makes State Farm’s homeowner’s policy so unique with its coverage endorsement for this type of loss.

The truth of the matter is that we all pay for insurance, so it only makes sense to make sure your insurance meets your expectations if and when a claim happens. Come experience their one-of-a-kind “kitchen-table” meetings to see how the Ryan Kill Agency has helped protect more families than any other State Farm office in the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo community since 2015.

Hunting Devin Hofmann SCHEELS

Devin Hofmann grew up hunting and fishing every moment he could.

Devin started working for SCHEELS part-time in 2020, and when he had the opportunity to turn his passion for hunting into a fulltime career as a Hunting Manager at SCHEELS, he seized it. “I grew up hunting and fishing and I still enjoy laying out in the field and dropping a line in the water,” Devin said.

“In my role now, I get to talk with customers about their passion for hunting and help them find what

Devin gets to create lasting relationships with customers, helping them find that special gun, a new decoy or call, and the right gear and clothing for their next hunting trip.

“What I love most about my role at SCHEELS is that my work is fun, and every day is different. Every person I

work with loves their job. We are all passionate about helping each and every customer find what they are looking for when they walk through our doors.”

The FM Area Foundation is a community foundation that empowers individuals to support causes they’re passionate about. With over 440 charitable funds, it has collaborated with families, businesses, and advisors to meet Cass and Clay Counties’ community needs for over six decades. In 2022, the FM Area Foundation granted over $9.5 million locally and beyond to important charitable causes.

The FM Area Foundation has a remarkable ability to handle complex gifts. For instance, consider Alice and Samuel, who have dedicated more than four decades to caring for

their farm and raising their two sons. While they were delighted to see their children pursue different professions, it was also emotional. They decided to donate a portion of their farmland to the FM Area Foundation to avoid substantial capital gains taxes and establish a family fund supporting their preferred causes.

Tatiana Nammour

Tati’s Mediterranean Saveur

Before she was the Executive Chef and Co-Owner of Tati’s Mediterranean Saveur, Tatiana Nammour was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon. Throughout her childhood, she was exposed to both Lebanese and French cuisine. She spent her days surrounded by the flavorful aromas of Lebanese food, and her teenage years were spent developing a love for freshly-baked breads and fine French patisserie. Today, her experiences have led her to develop a versatile palate that is reflected in everything she cooks for Tati’s Mediterranean.

Tati’s Mediterranean Saveur is located at The Lights in West Fargo. Tati’s features authentic Lebanese cuisine, a flagship of the Mediterranean diet, which boasts fresh ingredients, herbs, and spices. Each and every dish requires a specific and timeconsuming cooking process, resulting in light, flavorful, and delicious plates.

“We are fortunate to be in a growing community with people who are friendly and willing to try new foods,” Tatiana said. “We feel very lucky to be able to introduce a new cuisine to the area.”

Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity

At Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity, they believe that everyone deserves a decent, and affordable, place to live. This belief has driven their staff, and over 10,000 volunteers, to help change the lives of nearly 400 people through the construction of 72 simple, decent, and affordable homes.

Habitat homes are life-changing and have positive effects on nearly every aspect of a family’s life, but they are not free. All Habitat homeowners contribute hundreds of hours of sweat equity, building their own homes and other homes. They also complete Habitat's award-winning homeownership course and repay the

cost of their homes through an incomebased mortgage. Their payments are used to help sustain Habitat’s mission and build future homes.

In addition to providing affordable homes, an important part of their mission is the ReStore—a building materials thrift store that serves over 19,000 customers a year, many of whom are low-income and rely on ReStore to improve their homes.

Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity's core belief is helping families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter in the FM area, which they have done since 1991.

Healthcare Equipment Recycling

Executive Director, Tonya Sirleaf & Team

HERO, Healthcare Equipment Recycling Organization

The vision for HERO, Healthcare Equipment Recycling Organization, began 27 years ago with a group of operating room nurses who, led by their founder Deanna Micheli, saw how many usable excess materials were accumulating from the hospital. As they began collecting supplies and redistributing them to medical mission teams, they saw a need in the local community and shifted efforts inward.

Today, HERO’s goal is to collect and redistribute donated healthcare equipment and supplies to benefit those in need. HERO provides reasonably priced healthcare supplies through their retail center and for a

minimum cost through their HERO’s Cares Referral program. All viable excess medical equipment and supplies are handled in an environmentally safe manner, promoting recycling through redistribution.

With the help of over 7,500 volunteers who’ve donated 65,000 hours, HERO’s supplies have served over 55,000 individuals locally and reached more than 140 countries with life-changing medical supplies.

HERO’s mission is to provide access to affordable medical equipment and supplies for all. HERO's retail store and donation center are open to the public. Hours of operation are Monday through
