Synesthesia Kaylyn Ling, Grade 10

When the philharmonic begins to play, The whole world blends on a pallet of sound. All at once, the vibrancy of passion chills skin While it warms pulsing hearts. A golden sound pours out of regal brass horns, And the hall is lit by musicians’ euphoria. Razor-sharp precision sparks through the conductor’s hands As the ensemble tears through a march, Leaving the audience winded. The strings emerge, Their voices shattering harmony and building bittersweet tension, And to no surprise, the melodies are seamless in execution. The audience drinks in music with every passing chord, Savoring the rich tone. Pure sonority in the sound is handled With the intimacy of an artist to his masterpiece. When the philharmonic begins to play, The senses are brought alive with the intoxicating allure of music That is felt more than heard.

May the light always be green when you’re passing through. May the light guide your boat when you’re lost at sea. May the stars grant your wishes every night. May the sun wake you up every morning. May the world greet you with kindness. May your dreams become your reality. May you always find the strength to carry on. May you love yourself as much as I love you.

Dance

Stephanie Reinert, Grade 10

The beautiful tree danced with the wind under the gentle light of the moon. The trees limbs bent and swayed like an awe filled ballerina. The flowers on the tree sang as they bloomed with the grace of the moon. Air tickled ripples into the once still pond as it sped up its dance with the tree. Light shimmered all around, turning the forest into a lovely festival of life. The ground purred as the creatures of the night came to life. Bushes and the underbrush shivered as they witnessed the powerful dance before their eyes. The tree and wind clashed in perfect harmony while the moon played a blissful melody. When the moon went to rest and the sun awoke from its slumber, all was still as the tree awaited its perfect melody to be played once again.

The Candy Store Aubrey Dettman, Grade 7

Waterfalls of taffy, licorice too Red, orange, yellow, green and blue Candy canes and a peppermint stick So much to choose from, which do I pick? Should I get the chocolate bunny? Or maybe those little blocks that taste like honey Let’s not forget about the gummies They even have some that are shaped like mummies! Which to buy? Which to pick? I’ll get them all! I won’t get sick! I ate them all very hurriedly As the lady behind the counter eyed me worriedly Oh! I feel nauseous, I feel sick! Up from my throat came a torrent of ick I hurled and hurled ‘till I could puke no more Then I promptly fell upon the floor Curse my gluttony! Curse my sweet tooth! Next time, I’ll settle for a Baby Ruth.
