Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services ADAM H. PUTNAM, Commissioner The Capitol • Tallahassee, FL 32399-0800

Dear Horse Enthusiasts, As Florida Commissioner of Agriculture, I am proud to support and promote our state’s equine industry, whose long tradition is an important part of Florida’s heritage. Florida’s year-round moderate climate, mineral-rich soil and water, outstanding facilities and strong support industries have attracted equine businesses from all over the world. Within our state, you will find every aspect of the equine community – from raising horses to racing and showing them. As “The Horse Capital of the World ,” Florida is home to many of Thoroughbred racing’s leaders in recent years, including recent Eclipse Award winners Musical Romance, Awesome Feather, Big Drama and Dubai Majesty. TM

The equine industry plays a vital role in Florida’s economy, employing 68,000 people and contributing $5.1 billion to our state’s economy each year. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services works closely with the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association (FTBOA) to promote and grow this thriving industry. The Florida Horse Magazine is a wonderful source of information for the opportunities available in our state and we hope that you will use it as a guide for all of your equine needs. Sincerely, Adam H. Putnam Commissioner of Agriculture
