Local Events / News in Brief UPCOMING EVENTS TODAY EmpowerME When: 5:30-8 p.m. Where: Reitz Union, Rion Ballroom West What: EmpowerME “Building Up the Women Around You” is an event focused on talking about female empowerment from the male perspective and male empowerment through the female perspective. The goal is to encourage UF students to embrace a movement that inspires them to empower others. The hope from the event is to leave every man feeling responsible to build up at least one woman around him and to leave every woman with the confidence to empower the men around her. DancerFest When: 4-7 p.m. Where: Flavet Field What: The Dancer Relations Team at Dance Marathon UF will host a carnival-themed dancer pep rally. The event is an opportunity for people to get to know some of the dancers and meet Miracle Children. There will be face painting and carnival games.

THURSDAY Women’s History Month Talk with Sunny Nastase When: 6:30-7:30 p.m. Where: Room 202, Joseph

Hernandez Hall What: The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will celebrate Women’s History Month with a talk called “Smashing the Glass Ceiling: How Women and Men can Wield the Hammer” with Sunny Nastase. Nastase earned degrees from UF in anthropology and psychology and will share her insights on how men and women can join forces to break the glass ceiling. Sunny just transitioned from her position as president of healthcare at UPS to serve as lead strategist for GeneNews, which is changing the trajectory of early cancer detection and cure.

FRIDAY Documentary Night When: 6 p.m. Where: First Magnitude Brewing Company, 1220 SE Veitch St. What: The UF chapter of the Sustainable Ocean Alliance will host a free documentary night with a panel of experts including Chris Castro, the director of sustainability for the city of Orlando. National Geographic’s “Paris to Pittsburgh” will be shown. The event is in partnership with the Florida Climate Institute, the UF Office of Sustainability and the Surfrider Foundation. Big Orange Festival 2019 When: 6:30-10:30 p.m.

There will also be free food, such as glow-in-the-dark cotton candy, activities, rides and music by DJ Magnum. The first 300 students who arrive will get a free T-shirt. The event is free for UF students. Students must bring their Gator 1 Cards for free admission. No guests are allowed.
