Advances in helmet use and function have been driven by changing safety requirements, aircraft capability, technology and, at its base level, necessity.
The newest fighter, the F-35, has significant improvements like a new helmet which replaces old technology such as the Heads Up Display (HUD), but adds expense and sensitivity.
