dei Priori and the cathedral, both of which can be found at the Piazza IV Novembre. East of Perugia, you’ll find the village of Assisi, the birthplace of one of the most venerated religious figures in Christianity, St Francis.
The village is today home to a 13th-century basilica built in his honour. Amazing fresco paintings and beautiful art adorn the building and visitors can also marvel at the nearby cathedral in this quaint little village.

EXPLORING Perugia
Assisi Assisi is one of the most visited cities in Umbria, once home to St. Francis and St. Clare, it’s now a religious centre of the region and a prime destination for many pilgrims. Explore the narrow, picturesque lanes which conceal plenty of surprises: a hidden restaurant, a faded fresco or a stunning view. The town is set on the slopes of Mount Subasio, and it’s possible to trek in the nearby Regional Park, which displays stunning views of the scenery that characterises Assisi.
Gubbio Set on the lower slopes of the beautiful Mount Ingino, Gubbio was once the capital of Umbria. Old buildings, monuments and streets which date back to the Middle Ages abound in the city. Its ancient walls were built at the end of the 13th century, and visitors can discover gorgeous palaces, the Piazza Grande, as well as Roman, Gothic and Renaissance architecture. The elevation of the town also provides splendid views across the green countryside.
Perugia The old town of Perugia is steeped in history, and every street and corner reveals delightful glimpses of the past. Visit the Cathedral of St Lorenzo which towers above the rest of the city, and explore some of the many other churches in the region. Despite the Medieval look of the city, however, Perugia is a vibrant and youthful city. Among other things it’s the proud host of the Umbria Jazz Festival and the EuroChocolate Perugia - the region’s international chocolate exhibition, where you could taste delicious home-made Umbrian chocolate.
