The blue fingerprint of Lake Winnipeg is a symbol of Manitoba’s natural beauty and of Manitoban’s relationship to the landscape. Diverse communities use the lake for food, industry, recreation and power. But the balance of a lake ecosystem is easily tipped. Excess nutrients from farms and sewage threaten to suffocate life and enable algae blooms; the invasive zebra mussel can overwhelm habitats; and the impact of climate change on seasonal patterns looms, for example. This show features photos from an ongoing project that follows these issues, investigating the complex relationship we, the people around its shores, have with Lake Winnipeg.
