DESTINATION LOS CABOS

Tech Talk

Going GREENE at Flora Farm Visitors often come to Los Cabos to disconnect, to escape, to enjoy a relaxed lifestyle they dream of but are rarely able to achieve in the hustle-and-bustle world back home. That dream frequently translates into a healthier lifestyle as the stress melts away and focus on all aspects of the mind, body and spirit becomes natural. If that description applies to you, head over to Flora Farm in Las Animas,

Three years ago, recognizing the need to provide reliable, state-of-the-art communications technology to homeowners, Del Mar Development took the $3.2 million leap into fiber optic capabilities, and today, every home, villa and cottage is hard-wired with what Property Manager Johnny Castineiras calls “triple play” technology. “We are the first development in all of Latin America to provide fiber optic television, digital telephone and high speed Internet to our homeowners and guests,” he says. “Technology is critical in this day and age. Our homeowners want to be able to get away on vacations with their families, but they also need to be able to rely on the ability to communicate with their offices, sell stock options, do business just like they would back in the States. It’s important for the whole family to stay connected whether it’s on Facebook, Twitter or other social media they might use. Being out of touch is nice for a day or two, but it can quickly become a deterrent to a longer stay. Providing this level of reliable technology was an investment on our part, but it was something we absolutely needed to do for our owners.”

on the east side of San Jose del Cabo, and introduce yourself to Patrick and Gloria Greene. A dynamic duo whose farm is one of the leading producers of organic fruits and vegetables in the region and suppliers to Del Mar’s Club Ninety Six and other local restaurants of everything from lettuce and tomatoes to Swiss chard and basil, the Greenes have been based in Los Cabos for more than 20 years. In that span, they have been involved in everything from hotel development (Patrick), to helping create the Mercado Organico (Gloria) that runs every Saturday morning during the high season in downtown San Jose, to the big annual fundraiser Dog Day Afternoon that supports the Los Cabos Humane Society (both of them). These days, the Greenes are concentrating their considerable energies on Flora Farm, where in addition to growing some 90 different varieties of fruits and vegetables, they have recently opened a market and small farmto-table restaurant called Flora Farm Kitchen. Here, diners will find everything is prepared fresh: artisan breads are baked every morning; free range pork and chicken is raised nearby; the organic ingredients in the salad you order are likely to have just been picked and washed in the last two hours. Flora Farm may be slightly off the beaten path, but that’s a big part of its personality. “We are set up for homeowners and local residents [many of whom will remember Gloria’s popular Cafe Flora in San Jose] and visitors to Los Cabos who are looking for something differ-

old world charm, modern conveniences Owning a home in Mexico is great... until you need new ink cartridges for your printer, right? Wrong. Just 10 years ago that might have been the case. But today, you can have all the old world charm of Mexico with all the modern conveniences of home. Nowadays, Office Depot, Office Max, Home Depot, Costco, Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club are all minutes away from Palmilla’s entrance. And by the way, you can drink the water.
