Intro to Plexi-Fashion Jewelry

Knitting for Novices

Bridal Gown Sewing

$220 This hot fabrication once thought of as purely industrial is the new runway trend and lux style element. Design and make your own set of contemporary rings, earrings, or bracelets out of clear, colored transparent or opaque Plexiglas. This course teaches you basic techniques of how to work with Plexiglas, and gives you a start creating unique, one-of-a-kind colorful fashion jewelry. Work under close supervision with plenty of guidance so that after completion of the course, you will be able to make jewelry at home, which requires a minimum amount of tools and space. Bring to first session: The Kit, at a discounted price of $172 at All Craft, 135 W 29th St., Suite 205, 212 279.7077. Some additional expense for materials and tools. Additional equipment provided.

$155 If you long to take SXW 200, but do not knit or haven’t knitted in a long time, learn or re-acquaint yourself with the basic hand-knit stitches, fabrics, and techniques in this knitting start-up program. Learn knit-and-purl combinations, how to measure and fit properly, Intarsia color knitting, basic cable stitches, seams, and finishing. A small seasonal project is completed. If you are new to knitting, take this program prior to SXW 200. Bring two sets of straight knitting needles, sizes 8 and 9 and two balls of worsted-weight yarn (same color). Some additional supplies required. Class limited to 16.

$350 If you are a professional or highly trained home sewer, learn to make exquisite wedding gowns from commercial patterns, incorporating haute couture techniques. Bring your preselected pattern and fabric to the first session, at which you will discuss your bridal creation and vision with a professional bridal design team, who will guide you in customizing your garment and selecting appropriate trim. From cutting to assembly and sewing, work with direction and guidance, incorporating newly learned finishing skills to create a professional-looking gown (project requires some home sewing). Bring to first session: one commercial wedding gown pattern, fabric based on pattern choice (any fiber content is acceptable), 100% cotton thread matched to fabric coloration, tape measure or ruler, hand sewing needles (5-10 Sharpe needles), and white clay chalk or white dressmaker pencil. Trim to be purchased based on first session advisement.

Knitting for Pleasure $155 Learn to make hand-knit, designer-inspired sweaters from start to finish. Workshop teaches you to write your own instructions and to measure and convert properly. Assembly and blocking are demonstrated. Recommended for people with basic knitting skills who are interested in producing beautiful sweaters at a fraction of the normal cost. Advanced instruction in more challenging designs and stitches available to experienced knitters. Bring two sets of straight knitting needles, size 8 and size 9, and two balls of worsted-weight yarn (same color). Some additional supplies required. Knowledge of basic hand-knit stitches required. Beginners’ Machine Knitting $245 Learn to produce garments with a hand-knit look through introductory machine knitting. Whether or not you own a machine, the basic techniques covered enable you to pursue knit production. Attendees start by making a sweater at their own pace and can advance to additional garments in SXW 230. Crochet for Pleasure $155 Learn how to design and create crocheted sweaters, vests, and jackets—a fashion statement that has made a comeback. This course covers the design and planning process, and teaches you how to do modular crochet—a method that enhances the draping of crocheted garments for a softer silhouette. Recommended for people with a basic knowledge of crochet stitches. Bring to first class E, F, and G crochet hooks and a pair of scissors. Some additional expenses required. Class limited to 16. Final Cut Pro and Web Video Learn how to create and publish online video. These programs are designed to teach you the essential steps to cost-effective video production and web delivery.

Learn to Sew Like a Pro I $240 This basic sewing workshop teaches professional techniques employed in the fashion business for you to use at home. Utilizing the college’s industrial equipment, learn how to sew and produce correctly finished professional-looking pieces. The program includes layout, cutting, construction, and finishing of garments. Attendees use a commercial pattern to sew a pajamastyle bottom—long, cropped, or capri—working in cotton or cotton-type fabrics. Appropriate sewing techniques for a variety of fabrics and fabric resources are covered.
