HODKIN & JONES
The Finest Quality

Founded in 1868, Hodkin & Jones have been the specialists in the design, manufacture and installation of high quality, fibrous plaster mouldings for over 150 years.
The Hodkin & Jones range of mouldings offers one of the most comprehensive selections of fibrous plaster covings available. With traditional elegant cornices from Georgian, Victorian, Gothic, Regency and Art Deco periods right through to popular modern day contemporary stepped cornices.
Popular in many of their residential, retail and commercial projects, Hodkin and Jones are able to produce cornices that can incorporate modern LED uplighting, creating a discreet glow and enhancing a room’s ambience.
Other plaster products in the range include decorative ceiling and wall panels, centre pieces, door surrounds, fire surrounds, arches and columns, all of which are delicately handmade by their dedicated and highly skilled craftsmen.

The Hodkin & Jones contemporary cornices range reflects current market trends with their minimalist, geometric, flat design and they are suitable for any size modern renovation. Although modern in design, the contemporary covings are still designed and manufactured in house with the same high quality finish as the traditional range.
Often Architects and Interior Designers create designs not available from standard ranges, which is where Hodkin & Jones can offer a bespoke service. From drawings they are able to manufacture mouldings to exact dimensions specified, whether it is a bespoke ceiling design to create a grand space or a cornice specific to the particular project they are working on.
Restoration of Listed buildings and historical properties is also a speciality of Hodkin & Jones with many buildings requiring surveys and needing existing mouldings to be exactly matched where they can’t be repaired. Hodkin & Jones can match any plaster moulding no matter how complicated the design is, mouldings are then reproduced and installed by their team of fixers, all of which is overseen by a dedicated contracts manager.
Hodkin & Jones have a broad project portfolio that includes 10 Downing Street, Harrods Knightsbridge, the Royal Armoury, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the o2 arena to name but a few. Kitchens by Amberth

Amberth is a bespoke Interior Design Specialist based in Islington. With over 10 years of experience in designing and crafting unique Kitchens, Bathrooms and Fitted Interiors, their attention to detail allows them to create beautiful spaces, perfectly suited to their clients’ lifestyles.
Amberth will take on projects of any size, from taking a compact kitchen and maximising the space available, to project-managing a full home renovation. Their design department and team of in-house fitters allow them to manage a project from the initial vision, right through to completion, creating a stress-free experience for their clients.
The kitchen is the heart of the home and Amberth put their heart and soul into designing classic and contemporary spaces that are both functional and beautiful. From custom-made cabinetry to feature walls, Amberth’s bespoke kitchen interior designs combine beautiful natural materials with functional appliances and handpicked worktops to create the perfect space.
The process begins with a free consultation at their Studio in Islington, where the experienced designers work with the client to establish what they want from their ideal kitchen. The designers then create 3D visuals to bring the client’s dream space

to life. Two to three design options are presented during a second consultation, and a quote is given. Once the client and the designer are happy that the design is perfect, a site survey is carried out to take photographs and measurements and a schedule of work is put together. This gives the designer and project manager a visual sense of the space they are working with.
With their dedicated design process and by using only the highest quality materials from around the world, Amberth is able to achieve extraordinary results with the space you have.
If you are ever in their neighbourhood, why not stop by for a quick chat? There is always someone on hand to help.

YOUR DATA HAS VALUE TO CRIMINALS.
DO YOU PROTECT IT LIKE YOUR POSSESSIONS?

In today’s world not fully protecting sensitive private data can be a costly mistake. Matt Dunn, Business Support Director at London based MSSP Labyrinth Technology explains why a complete cyber defence cannot be achieved by technology alone.
The term High Net Worth Individual (HNWI) is often used to describe people with valuable possessions, such as property and cars. Typically, such individuals are business owners, employers, property owners, landlords, company directors or major shareholders. These roles involve sensitive data, and a failure to protect this data could have a severe financial impact, such as loss of business revenue, failed business ventures or financial penalty from fines. There may also be reputational consequences due to the HNWI having a public profile or social media following meaning their “personal brand” has significant value also.
So, if a HNWI pays a specialist to protect valuable possessions, why would they not do the same for their valuable data?
In the same way as a security company advises on physical security, a good IT Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP) can advise on data and cyber security. The MSSP can review all virtual security settings for mobile and office-based devices, communications systems, data storage facilities and other networked systems. But it does not end with technology alone. Publicly available data (such as social media, Companies House or HM Land Registry) can be used to create a
“fake profile” to obtain additional private, more sensitive data by way of spear-phishing and hacking. This additional data will undoubtedly have a significant resale value, leaving HNWI’s vulnerable to such threats as blackmail, fraud, or simple financial loss following on from the sale of this data.
Many MSSP’s will only offer technological protection such as firewalls, multi-factor authentication and network security. But complete cyber security can only be achieved through an ongoing and evolving holistic approach. Processes should be audited regularly as part of a gap analysis, and a culture of awareness in staff and even family must be cultivated. The life of the HNWI is not straightforward and incurs a complexity that only a good MSSP can respond to in a proactive and agile manner.
Your sensitive data is valuable, so if you value the security of that data do not leave it to chance, or a poor MSSP. Contact Labyrinth Technology today to find out more. THE DETAILS

High quality, modern kitchens do not have to be expensive
As many people consider new kitchen designs following lockdown, it is more important than ever to understand that high-quality models can be cost-
effective.
Ashraf Meza, director of Contemporary Home Design UK (CHDuk), in East London, which offers high specification German and Italian kitchens, explains why…..
Q: Does high quality have to mean expensive?
“While it is always worth choosing the best possible, modern kitchen option for your home, no, high quality does not have to mean expensive. A good kitchen will certainly cost more initially than a low-quality option, but it will not need to be repaired or changed as frequently and so will be more cost-effective in the long run. Whether you are looking at small kitchen ideas or something larger, there are some very reasonable, goodquality kitchen designs to consider.”
Q: What else should customers consider?
“Whatever style you are opting for – from a shaker kitchen through to a Scandinavian kitchen – choose a reputable company, which is renowned for its customer service. For us, high levels of customer service begin at the concept and design

phase of kitchen planning and continue right through to installation and beyond. As we offer bespoke kitchens, good communication with our customers is essential and allows us to provide perfect kitchen solutions”
Q: What kitchen trends are you seeing in 2021?
“Current trends continue with modern minimalist designs, featuring neutral colour shades and complementing wood effects and abstracts. Most importantly, we are still seeing ideas that incorporate social space within the kitchen design, with kitchen islands and peninsulas; kitchen dining ideas and open-plan spaces remain popular.”
Q: What is your advice for people considering a new kitchen?
“Research your options thoroughly but also take expert advice. Whether this is your first kitchen project or not, beginning it may initially seem daunting and overwhelming, but the right company can guide you. At CHDuk we have extensive experience and passion for all projects we undertake. We can help, advise, provide direction and actively manage complex projects to ensure smooth progress through to completion. We pride ourselves on problem-solving and creating innovative new design solutions. With the wide range of brands and products we have, we are able to produce unique designs that would not be possible in other studios”

JAPANDI INSPIRED CRANE WALLPAPERS

Ahead of this year’s interior trend of bold, oversized design, creators of made-to-measure wallpaper murals, Wallsauce.com has assembled a collection of maximalist crane murals.
These eclectic designs have been carefully selected for customers to perfect the maximalist look. With a primary colour palette and a dash of pastel tones, the collection will allow creative juices to flow and allow for harmonising statement furniture.
The crane selection has further been inspired by 2021’s Japandi trend as cranes are often recognised for symbolising good fortune and longevity in Japanese culture. Teamed with delicate blossoms and Scandi-esque line patterns, the contrasting details bring a classical element to modern, maximalist design.

AU Bespoke

The ‘AU’ in AU Bespoke is the UKbased interiors stylist Anna Unwin. AU has forged a reputation as being the place to source bespoke pieces that complement simple but refined interior spaces.
The tightly edited collection includes antique, mid century and vintage objects. Each piece has been chosen because of its strong design as well as its idiosyncrasy. Anna specialises in identifying objects that fit seamlessly into any interior, be it contemporary or more traditional. Every item in the inventory has been owned and valued previously and therefore carries an innate history and longevity which has withstood the test of time and transcends passing design trends.
Some of the collection is subtle in its appeal; some is rare and even unique. However, each piece is sustainably sourced. Anna ascribes just as much worth to an object’s environmental and ethical credentials as she does to its quality and beauty.
The AU collection of furniture, lighting, textiles and objects is not simply beautiful; mostly handcrafted using skills passed down by generations and culturally revered, the pieces also exemplify a production model anchored by a fundamental appreciation of artisans and their craft.
Anna’s refined ‘eye’, as well as her extensive experience as an interior stylist and her background in textiles, enables her to discover those unique pieces – antique, mid century or vintage – that create a special dialogue between space, colour and form.
The site will be regularly updated as newly sourced pieces are added to the AU collection. aubespoke.com Insta - aubespokestudio

New wallpaper collection
Global warming and extinction might not be the most obvious of inspirations when it comes to wallpaper design but Bobo1325 is not your average design house.
And founder Beth Travers is not one to shy away from using her platform to bring attention to causes close to her heart.
Which is exactly what she has done with her latest wallpaper collection, Before They Pass Away.
Originally inspired by the African landscape, it has a message that resonates across the globe.
Beth said: “This collection is designed to highlight global warming and the plight that hunting and the ever-present threat of extinction are having on our planet.
“I truly believe if you change your thinking, you can change the world.”
The five-strong collection, which is available in multiple colourways, is packed with hidden objects camouflaged among dense foliage and intricate layers.
One of the designs, Cecil, is named after the lion who was fatally wounded by a recreational big game hunter, while The Sands of Time combines silhouettes of animals with hour glasses to show how little time we have left to protect these species.
Beth added: “I want these designs to encourage people to sit up and think about the world around us and be wowed by the nature that surrounds us.”
ABOUT BOBO1325
Founded by Beth Travers in 2016, Bobo1325 is an award-winning design house with a conscience.
Established with the desire to create sociallyaware wallpaper and fabric designs, Beth incorporates key messages highlighting climate control, gender equality and mental health into her distinctive creations.
Her work brings together graphic design, fine art and photography to truly push boundaries and create unique designs bursting with depth and beauty.
All designs are painstakingly constructed from illustrations, textures, mixed media, photography and drawings from Beth’s own sketchbook. The carefully-crafted compositions are then transposed into a digital setting.
Bobo1325 also offers a bespoke design service for commercial clients and interior designers.

BLUE ISLE-THE STORY
Moving to the New Forest from London brought a new lifestyle for the founder of Blue Isle, who is a surveyor and designer. Having spent years working on client’s houses she wanted to put together a collection of furniture and furnishings which was stylish but affordable. And so, ‘Blue Isle’ was born- the name inspired by the Isle of Wight where the family spent many happy summers. It remains a small, family company which is now run as an online ‘boutique’ store.
Blue Isle offers a small, design-lead online collection for town, coast and country, using solid woods, mostly oak with a lovely ‘weathered’ matt oiled finish to give the oak a distinctly grey-white look. They create classic and timeless pieces but with a contemporary twist. Bedroom chests, and useful console tables in this toned-down oak colour form the mainstay of the collection, as they blend so well with furniture from other periods and styles.
Some of the popular pieces, such as the striking coffee tables and matching side tables for lamps, have a more contemporary ‘industrial’ feel. Each tabletop is carefully hand-pieced together into a parquet pattern using reclaimed timber, and then sanded and sealed to give a pleasing, rustic look. With very sturdy metal frames, these are a good focal point and can be styled with modern and more traditional interior schemes . Blue Isle particularly likes an ‘eclectic ‘ mix of furniture, where old and new go together but without having to form an exact match – it creates a more layered and timeless appeal.
A capsule collection of table lamps, also in weathered woods and gunmetal grey tones, complements the furniture range, and there is a growing collection of cushions, accessories and one-off vintage decorative pieces to suit any interior.

FRENCH ESCAPE:
Luxury Reclaimed Wood Additions
Capture the effortless beauty of French rustic charm in the form of a captivating new collection of reclaimed wood furniture from Modish Living.
The just-landed Colette Reclaimed Wood additions combine the beauty of rustic aged wood, rich in natural markings, imperfections and history, with the simple elegance of French provincial style. With a focus on quality craftsmanship, this stand-out collection has all the elements that contribute to French country style furniture; curved lines, plenty of natural tones and texture, exceptionally rustic and welcoming, but with a chic and sophisticated charm that will fit seamlessly into both modern, rustic or traditional-style homes.
Champion pieces of the new Colette Reclaimed Wood collection include three statement Reclaimed Wood dining tables - the Colette Refectory Dining Table, Monastery Dining Table and Round Pedestal Dining Table. The aged wood used for each table has a pale, low-sheen finish that highlights the rustic appearance and character of the wood, whilst the delicate curves and hand carved details are a feast for the eyes.
Console yourself: Another favourite sure to be popular is the Reclaimed Wood Tall Console Table with three drawers. Expertly crafted to enhance the unique imperfections of the 100% reclaimed wood, the smooth contours, undulations and superior craftsmanship of this statement piece of furniture ensure it will make an impression from the moment you walk through the door.
Step aside: The Large Reclaimed Wood Sideboard is a further notable addition to this collection. A wooden sideboard is an endlessly versatile piece of furniture adding style and storage to a room and the Colette Large Sideboard is no exception. The intricate carving, louvered door and traditional metal handles on its drawers and cupboards instantly hold the eye, but what shines through is the quality and detail of the reclaimed rustic wood. Knots, grains and splits feature in all their flawed glory giving each sideboard its own bespoke thumbprint.
Study buddy: Also new is the Reclaimed Wood Writing Desk. This dainty and ever-so-pretty desk features the same tactile reclaimed wood and expert craftsmanship that runs through the entire Colette collection, together with a dark leather top with a decorative gilt edge. The three drawers add function to form making it the perfect choice for a home office or study area. Further additions guaranteed to win you over include a stunning Reclaimed Wood Chest that doubles as a coffee table and a wonderful rustic Butcher’s Block that has all the gnarly qualities of an antique style block. This age-defying collection also includes a Large TV stand that brings some old-world rustic charm to the 21st century.
For full details of all the new pieces in the Colette Reclaimed Wood Collection can be found on our website modishliving.co.uk.

Harleen McLean
Harleen McLean is a London interior designer, and, according to Harleen, at the forefront of a design revolution.

“There is an interior design revolution going on!”. Harleen sits back, blueprints, fabric swatches, and files meticulously gathered around her. “You have to excuse the clutter, I’ve got a VIP client at the moment. We’re completely gutting a four storey Victorian home; the VIP is my husband”, she laughs, her eyes twinkle with delight. “Thankfully, I’m also my own client, so this Biophilic renovation is a labour of love in the time of COVID.”
“Now where were we?”, she muses. “Ah yes, ‘revolution’. Biophilic Interior Design is revolutionising the way we do interior design, its beautiful, functional, and very, very smart. Did you know that when you are happy, you are 31% smarter. Well, Biophilic Interior Design makes everyone healthier, happier, and smarter”
So what exactly is Biophilic Interior Design?
“Biophilic interior design is simply ‘bringing the outdoors inside’, using the principles and disciplines of the 6 elements, 14 patterns and 73 attributes of Biophilic Design. I’ve been an interior designer for 30 years, using Biophilic Design means designing with the whole human being in mind. There is loads of scientific data about Biophilic Design and how our ancestral DNA equip us to survive and thrive. It explains why we actually fall sick when faced with constant concrete, or synthetic solutions. We need nature.“
So Biophilic Design is about plants?
“Yes, and no, it is much more than having some nicely appointed pot plants, its a whole approach to creating an interior that mimics our relationship with nature. Perhaps the easiest explanation I can give is, you know that feeling when you are strolling through a forest, and the sunshine is filtering through a leafy canopy. Imagine feeling like that every day. Imagine all your senses being at ease, your creativity being charged, and your productivity at its peak; that’s Biophilic Interior Design”
Our five senses are constantly at work filtering information and informing us about our environment. Colour impacts, textures attract or repel us, surprise delights us. I use the elements, the patterns, and the science of wellness to create a healthy, smart interior, whether its an office, a home, or a single room. For example • Got a teenager going through exams? Poor things, use Biophilic design to help them concentrate, and remain calm under pressure. Paint their room blue - light blues calm the mind, while darker blues help with focus and concentration. • Create a kitchen that is the centre of the family, that is warm, inviting, that creates harmony and inclusion - food tastes better in a Biophilic kitchen • Create your bedroom as ‘the sleep room’, a room where you effortlessly relax, where the mundanities of the day drift away - banish stress, welcome wellness. • Use sunlight and enriched light to create focal points. Light affects our circadian rhythms, our moods, and our health

MARBLE-EFFECT PORCELAIN BY FLOORS OF STONE

When Floors of Stone began, we started selling natural stone such as Travertine, Limestone, Slate and Marble. However, as the market has changed, we have introduced a growing range of porcelain tiles to meet the demand of our clients. Most recently, we have introduced a range of marble-effect porcelain to offer as an alternative to natural stone.
A lot of clients love the appearance of natural marble but with any natural stone comes a little more maintenance and care, which is why porcelain has become increasingly popular. Marble provides such a wonderful, luxurious feel to any space and the porcelain certainly does not shy away from this either.
Within our marble-effect porcelain range, there are options for tiles with a matt finish, such as our Antique Marble Porcelain and polished finishes which can be found within the Calacatta Blanco and Gold Porcelain, so there is something to suit each and every project, whether it be a bathroom wall or a kitchen floor.
Often when clients think of marble, they think a high price tag is associated with it but this is far from the case with the porcelain options. Floors of Stone stock a number of marble-effect tiles starting from just £22 per m2, allowing you to create a sumptuous feel without a high end budget.
We have a generous showroom, situated just an hour and fifteen minutes train journey from St. Pancras station, where you can find beautiful displays of all of our products including natural stone, porcelain, wood flooring, as well as our range of handmade tiles. We understand it is not always possible for people to make the journey to our showroom which is why we offer a free sample service allowing you to get a feel for our tiles in your own home. Regardless of the size of your project, we are always more than happy to help so please do not hesitate to contact us.

PEACE + RIOT

Becoming a parent is a huge deal. Suddenly everything’s changed. You’re not in charge of your timetable, how clean your clothes stay, and you’re exhausted. When we have kids the places we used to go to don’t want us anymore, and where they do want us, we don’t want to put one foot through their welcoming doors. Soft play centres are not what anyone dreamed of when they thought about becoming a parent. If anything, they’re the world’s most effective contraceptive.
Why can’t it be done differently? When working out the concept behind Peace + Riot, founder Caroline Newte Hardie decided she would start with what parents needed and wanted, and work up her ideas from there; happy parents mean happy kids. What do parents need? Ultimately, they need to feel themselves and be supported in the toughest job of their lives.
So, what is Peace + Riot?
Peace + Riot is a Kitchen, Bar, Workspace – with childcare on site. Our ‘Peace-Keepers’ work just like home helps would – except, bonus: you’re not at home. And, someone else has done the shopping, the meal planning, the cooking, the washing up, and another someone else is keeping the kids entertained, and tidying up after them, all so you can catch up with life admin, work, or just have a chat and get through one sentence without being asked to ‘WATCH!’.
We offer membership to those who think they might rock up rather often and want to take advantage of discounts on food + drink, priority bookings, discounts and perks with our neighbours, and access to all our training + coaching events. And a nice little membership pack.
Being a parent is hard work, whether you’re full time, part time, or ready for half time – when you’re in it, it’s hard. It’s wonderful too – don’t worry, we know. We just want to help you feel less tired, less stressed and more supported, so that when the wonderful strikes – you know about it.
We’re here, for you. THE DETAILS

Head to peaceandriot.co and follow Peace + Riot on Instagram @peaceandriotco to stay in the loop. Sign up to their newsletter to hear about their progress and Peace + Riot’s Early Bird Membership Offer launching on 15th May.
