The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) is a health service delivery organization created and mandated to support BC First Nations to implement a number of guiding agreements and documents seeking to elevate BC First Nations health outcomes through the creation a more effective health care system. The FNHA’s main duty is in its operational role as a health service delivery provider – while also contributing support services to the political First Nations Health Council (FNHC). As political agreements and leadership from BC Chiefs, Tripartite, health authority and other partners have occurred over a number of years, the FNHA is in the midst of transition to its long-term intended role as a Health Authority service provider that will take on responsibilities currently being handled by Health Canada’s First Nations Inuit Health Branch – Pacific Region.
