Raigad sees 1,000 snake bite cases, 14 deaths in 17 months

Mumbai: At least 1,118 cases of snake bite were reported in Maharashtra’s Raigad district in the last 17 months and 14 persons have died in such incidents, an official from the civil hospital here said on Monday. In light of rise in incidents of snake bite, the civil hospital has appealed to people to go for immediate medical intervention at the nearest hospital instead of consulting quacks or using traditional remedies, the official said.

Wife arrested after BJP functionary found dead in UP

Meerut: The wife of a local BJP functionary has been arrested in connection with his death at his house in Meerut, a senior police official said on Monday. Nishant Garg’s body, which had a gunshot wound, was found on Saturday and his wife Sonia was detained, SSP Rohit Singh Sajwan said. The SSP said during interrogation, Sonia stated that Garg wanted to kill her using a country-made pistol but in a fight, a shot was fired, and the bullet hit her husband and he died.

Heat wave: Schools in Patna to remain closed till June 18

Patna: Amid the severe heatwave, the Patna administration has ordered to close all schools in the district till June 18, an official statement said. The order applies to all the private, and government schools including pre-school and Anganwari centres in Patna, it said. According to a circular from Patna District Magistrate, the order will come into force with effect from today and will remain effective till next Sunday i.e., June 18.
