hat to Read during a Pandemic? Since I became a book reviewer What to read is a question I never ask myself anymore, as book options flood me literally every week. But what to read during a Pandemic, is what I found myself wondering about. Do I read Pandemic style stories? Do I read real life drama? Do I read SciFi, Horror, Fantasy, Self-Help? On can go crazy with this! Is there specific genre that is appropriate during this difficult time? I don’t think so, however, I think that for me the real question is what read will help me rest from worry during this difficult time. In my case I found that poetry, how to’s, and Fantasy does the trick. Yes, I am reading the three of them at the same time. Poetry in my bedroom before I go to sleep, How to’s on my recliner in my living room and Fantasy outside in my back yard. Don’t ask me why but it keeps me calm enough to deal with elderly toddlers (my mom and dad) living with me, Having my husband working in my home office right next me as I too work, and three restless vp of security barking at all the people who think lock down means going for walks every five minutes. . NEW 2020 RELEASES OVID-19 vs. Writers Isolation...Humans are the weirdest creatures in the universe. We like to state that we are creatures based on habits, but the current corona situation is proving that wrong, at least in my case. I have been working full-time from my home office for 10 years
now, so I am 100% accustomed to home isolation as a home office/internet based business professional since 2009 and a writer for publication since the 1990’s…or so I thought. When Corona came along, I told my husband that staying at home was a piece of cake for me as my life would remain almost unchanged; but I felt that he would have a really hard time adjusting. Well I was right, he is having a hard time working and staying at home, but to my surprise, I am doing worse than he is! To all fulltime writers and professionals used to working from home who are having the same hard time that I am I say: You are not alone! You are not crazy! COVID-19 isolation is different than your regular writers isolated lives! Below are some ways they are different and how to get through them: * The main thing is that staying at home on Corona Isolation is not up to us entirely. There are horrible consequences of going out and so most of us whether mandated or not feel obligated to stay at home. This means that we are not partaking of our usual outings whether it is to the library, hairdresser, gym…etc. Even small outings in our isolated writing lives gave us a sense of belonging within our communities, so sacrificing those times does impact our lifestyles. To compensate this, try to keep the activity within your home. For example, write in a different spot of your house sporadically like on your back porch/balcony, kitchen table, your couch…etc. * If you are used to working out at the gym, keep working out but enrich your routine by combining walking around the block and then yoga in your back yard/balcony, or a video class followed with some free weights/ pull ups or a machine (if you have one). . * Can’t go to the hairdresser? DON’T CUT YOUR HAIR YOURSELF! Unless you are okay with the endless possible results. Instead, treat your hair with some coconut oil bath, or whatever other kitchen product solutions you can find on a Pinterest search. Or give your yourself a facial with some oatmeal and water for a homemade mask. *Create a new routine and stick with it, include your home buddies in some of them if you have them. My major problem is that I have my husband at home 24/7 for the first time in 30 years, so now we are creating different routines together and separately, something we had not done since the newlywed times!. FListen, most of us, if not all have neve gone through what we are going through now. There is no escape as it is happening worldwide, but that doesn’t mean that we must let ourselves go into despair and disregard our lives and ambitions. On the contrary, we have to see this isolation as an opportunity to finally look inward of ourselves, inward of our work, inward of our beliefs, our relationships, and our lifestyles, and grow by stepping up to the plate and being kind to one another, building community, learning to adapt to survive change, and learning to conserve and sustain what we need to live whether it is our food pantry, the community food bank, or our planet. It is time to take inventory of who we have been until now and who we want to be after this. This is the time to finish what you’ve never have time to finish in your writing. It is the time to say what you never dared to say, to tell your loved ones you love them even from afar. Don’t miss out on what you can do by despairing for what you can’t do right now. I hope you all stay healthy, safe and kind..

Thanks for the invitation, Sheri. It’s great to be with you again! Unrelenting Peril is a fast-paced story of organized crime’s increasingly bold attempts to infiltrate and control fictional Multima Corporation. The story takes place on four continents as CEO Suzanne Simpson and her leadership team try desperately to ward off repeated attacks on multiple fronts. It’s truly a story of corporate intrigue! The characters that really stand out to me in all three books, but more significantly in Unrelenting Peril, are your female characters. I admire and appreciate them all, even (and maybe especially), the “bad” girls. The depth and authenticity in which you portray them are phenomenal. What were some hurdles you faced when writing from the perspective of the opposite sex and how did you handle those challenges? I’m glad you enjoyed the women! Clearly, development of each of the female characters required proportionately more effort for me than the males, but my interest in promoting and encouraging women in business started early. I coached and mentored several women during my 40-year career with multinational corporations and learned much from their challenges and experiences. The world is a scary place right now. Each day brings something a little worse, and I’m sure it has plenty of people wondering just how bad things can get. Reality can be hard to face. I don’t recommend turning a blind eye to current events entirely but taking a break every now and then can be beneficial to your mental health. Why not dive into a different world with different problems for a little while? Some authors can make their fantasy worlds so vivid they seem like real places we could get on a plane and visit. It’s times like these that make me want to open a good book and hide in a strange world for a while. Here are a few of my recommendations! The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon is a fantasy novel that spans across a sprawling map (which is helpfully provided for readers in the beginning of the book), complete with multiple regions, countries, and continents. You can visit worlds inspired by the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. Sick of living your own life? In The Priory of the Orange Tree, you can journey alongside alchemists, kings, queens, dragon slayers, pirates, and anything else you can think of! If the setting and characters don’t catch your attention, perhaps the dragons will! It’s the perfect novel to help you slip away from the real world for a while.. Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll is a weird book. It’s also a classic for a reason. Who wouldn’t want to have tea with the Mad Hatter or cause mischief with the Cheshire Cat? With its nonsensical storyline and rich, atmospheric tone, Alice in Wonderland is a childhood favorite sure to make you smile during this uncertain time! The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern takes place in a massive underground library with cats! Get lost alongside the characters as they wander through seemingly endless halls and discover new corners and nooks on each page. If books and cats aren’t your style, hop into a boat and sail through the mysterious Starless Sea that gives the novel its name. Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones features, that’s right, a castle that moves. Home to an odd wizard, his apprentice, and a fire demon, join protagonist Sophie as she befriends this unusual cast while the castle wanders around the kingdom. Another wonderful children’s book, this is a great story to share with your children.. Reading is one of the positive ways we can cope during these trying times. Allow yourself to slip away for a little while.
