About Our School BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

PARENT ENGAGEMENT

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

To ensure a safe and secure learning environment for all of our students, our school implemented Character Education and Social Emotional Learning curricula. These programs focus on outcomes and have helped to build a solid school community at North Marion Intermediate School. We host regular trainings and discussion opportunities to help students, staff, families, and community members to recognize bullying and harassment and provide strategies for intervention. Our Student Services Team encourages all of our students to speak up when they see bullying. Additionally, our school and district participate in the Safe Oregon program to help students feel safe at while at school and home.

Our school offers several academic focused extracurricular activities: • Mad Science • Chess Club • OBOB (Oregon Battle of the Books) • STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) • BEAM - (Be Excited About Math) • Music Together - Music Classes • Robotics • North Marion Youth Athletics

The Intermediate School engages our parents and community by hosting a variety of events intended for parents and community members to attend: • All District Back to School Night • Grandparents Day • Literacy Nights • Math Nights • Music Performances • Family Wellness Events • Nurturing Parent Classes • North Marion Parent Club

We partner with local business to provide students with learning opportunities in connection with our community: • Pacific Foods • Twin Star Credit Union • North Marion Service Integration Team • North Marion Community Library • Mentor Graphics • State Farm Insurance Each year we hold our winter clothing drive to connect our students and community by working together to collect winter clothes for families in need. In last year’s winter coat drive, community members came together to knit over 100 wool hats and mittens.

School Goals

State Goals

Safe & Welcoming Environment

Attendance is a key indicator of high school success. Our school prioritizes improved school attendance by structured attendance policies that serve to inform students and parents of the importance of daily school attendance. With these supports in place, our goal is to improve overall school attendance by five percent each year, over the next three years. In addition to attendance, Freshmen On-track to Graduate is another key indicator for high school graduation. We monitor credits earned by 9th grade students at the end of each trimester and support students to ensure they finish 9th grade with at least 6 credits.

The Oregon Department of Education is working in partnership with school districts and local communities to ensure a 90% on-time, four year graduation rate by 2025. To progress toward this goal, the state will prioritize efforts to improve attendance, invest in implementing culturally responsive practices, and promote continuous improvement to close opportunity and achievement gaps for historically and currently underserved students.

Our school strives to ensure all students and their parents feel welcome at our school by the bilingual Family Outreach Advocate, who serves as a liaison between school and our Spanish speaking families. All communication sent home through mail, phone, email or text is translated for easy access. Interpreters are provided for school meetings parents attend and parent conferences. Our school enforces a strong bullying and harassment policy to ensure students of all backgrounds and experiences feel safe and respected. We believe in protecting the rights of all students, providing them equitable access to a comprehensive education.
