School Goals
State Goals
Safe & Welcoming Environment
We are dedicated to providing a quality education through culturally responsive and trauma informed practices. Our school focus areas will centered around 'ACE'. (A) Assessment/Learning targets that are clear, specific, and relevant with a focus on math. (C) Daily community circles. Staff will delve deeper into discussions about equity and culturally responsive teaching. (E) Engaging students Teachers will have all students talking, thinking, creating, and moving to learn. Student discourse will be a priority in every class.
The Oregon Department of Education is partnering with school districts and local communities to ensure a 90% ontime, four year graduation rate by 2025. To progress toward this goal, the state will prioritize efforts to improve attendance, provide a well-rounded education, invest in implementing culturally responsive practices, and promote continuous improvement to close opportunity and achievement gaps for historically and currently underserved students.
VP strives to provide multiple opportunities for involvement. Our goal is to have most communication translated and to provide interpreters when needed. Our principal friendly principal and staff are ready to support teachers, students, and families in all ways. Through PBIS, we teach and reinforce positive behaviors, enabling students to be successful and to feel safe physically, emotionally, and academically. We look forward to building strong and lasting positive relationships in 2019-20.

About Our School BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
PARENT ENGAGEMENT
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
To ensure a safe and secure learning environment for all of our students at Ventura Park, we consistently practice emergency drills for fire, earthquake and lock-in. We teach regular lessons to all grades to address bullying and harassment. Staff, students and families work together as a team to address conflict between students on a case-by-case basis. Our counselor and student behavior specialist work together to develop students’ social and emotional skills. No form of bullying is tolerated at VP. Our goal is that every student feels both seen and heard. Kindness to all is our expectation.
Ventura Park is a SUN (Schools Uniting Neighborhoods) School. Through SUN, we are able to offer programs throughout the year to all families, both during and after the school day. We also offer activities through our Community Sports Programs. Some examples of extracurricular activities are: · Garden Club
Ventura Park strives to engage all of our parents by providing language supports when needed. We have a thriving Parent Teacher Organization that meets monthly and organizes multiple family and community events. Ventura Park offers many opportunities for families to engage and be a part of our school community: · Back to School Night Parent · Teacher Conferences · English/Spanish language practice for adults · Multicultural Night, Math Nights, Family Fun Night · SUN Health & Wellness Fair · Student Recognition Assemblies and Spirit Days · All-school Carnival · IRCO P3 for students/families ages 0 through 3rd grade
There are many ways to participate in partnering with Ventura Park. One way is to attend our monthly PTO meetings. Another is to attend our Community Leadership Team meetings. At these meetings, teachers, community partners, and parents discuss celebrations and concerns, and we develop action plans for improving community connections. Additionally, community members can help in the classroom, work with our school garden educator and help maintain our garden, support in our school food pantry, volunteer on picture days and volunteer to help set up and take down our evening events.
· Science Clubs · Art Clubs · Volleyball and Basketball · Partnership with Grow Portland, providing garden class to all students · Safety Patrol · Marimba Band · Viking Leader Program
