Dover- 2015

On October18, 2015, crews responded foran unknown type of fire coming from underneath a tarp in front of the Best Western Galaxy Inn on East Lebanon Road. Within a few minutes, multiple calls were taken reporting supplies and otherequipment onfire. Units arrived to find paint supplies, boxes, pallets, traps, propane tanks and a forklift on fire with extension to two personal vehicles. - Submitted by Sean Byron

Fast Stop in HarborEstates

On November28, 2021, at 0856, Station 15 and mutual aid companies were alerted fora residential structure fire on Warfel Drive in HarborEstates. FirefighterShawn Wagnerwho lives in Harbor Estates called in by phone to the Fireboard forfire showing at the front door. Deputy Mike Edwards who lives close by arrived to fire showing from the alpha side. Command placed the scene under control at 0911. - Submitted by Wally Poppe
Ladder16 Assists Cranston Hts.

On November9, 2021, Ladder16 assisted the Cranston Heights Fire Company on a house fire in the Brookmeade development. Squad 14 reported smoke showing and located the fire in the kitchen wall. Ladder16 operated as the first special handling searches and assisted with opening up the walls to check forextension. - Submitted by Frank Maule

Handles Single-Wide Fire

On November13, 2021, just after1425, the Camden-Wyoming Fire Company along with Felton Fire Ambulance B-48 and the Magnolia Fire Company, made a response fora trailerfire in the 8000 block of Willow Grove Road. Command 41 arrived to find a single-wide trailerwith fire showing, and reports of two animals inside. First arriving units deployed two handlines through the front doorof the trailer. The Little Creek Fire Co. (54) provided coverage while crews operated forapproximately 90 minutes before placing the scene undercontrol. Two firefighters and the homeownerwere treated forminorburns. - Submitted by Mike Steindl


S. Dupont Highway Rollover
Rescue 47 and Rescue 50 operated at an MVAwith rolloverand subject trapped underthe vehicle on South Dupont Highway on New Year’s Day 2022. Additional units responded including Command 47, Engines 47-4, 47-5, 50-1, Traffic Control 47-7, BLS 50 and KM8.

Christmas Eve Crash
On Christmas Eve 2021, just after2035, Five Points Fire Company units were alerted to an MVAwith entrapment and multiple injuries on Boxwood Road at Overland Avenue. A-17 and Squad 17 arrived and confirmed one victim trapped. Ambulances from Mill Creek Fire Company, St. Francis EMS, Wilmington ManorFire Company and New Castle County Paramedics also responded. Cranston Heights and Minquas also responded.

I-95 MVAwith Entrapment
On November8, 2021, at approximately 0613, the New Castle County Paramedics, Christiana Fire Company and Minquas Fire Company of Newport were dispatched to Interstate 95 northbound and the Route 7 off ramp forthe report of an MVAwith entrapment. Fire and rescue crews arrived to find a pickup which had collided with the back of a tractortrailer, heavily trapping the driverof the pickup. Personnel worked foroveran hour to free the 49-year-old man, while he was being treated by the paramedics forpossible internal injuries and abrasions. The man was transported to the Christiana Hospital, in Stanton, in stable condition. - Submitted by Abigail Haas

Bridgeville 3-Vehicle MVA
The Bridgeville Fire Company responded to a three-vehicle accident on December27, 2021. The crash was located at the intersection of Route 13 and Redden Road. State police and EMS personnel were also on the scene. - Fire News photo by FirstOnScenePhotos


RMAs at Raceway Blvd. 2-CarMVA
On January 10, 2022 at 1613, the Harrington Fire Company, Kent County EMS (KM-8B, KM-10, KM-5), Houston Fire Company EMS and Delaware State Police Aviation Trooper2 were alerted for an MVAon Raceway Boulevard in the area of William M. Chambers Jr. Road on the Delaware State Fairgrounds. Crews arrived to find a two-vehicle accident with one vehicle on its side and second vehicle with one subject still inside. EMS crews began assessing the two injured subjects and confirmed that crews would need to perform a doorremoval on one of the vehicles. The injured subject was then removed and both were evaluated by EMS and refused transport to the hospital.


NCC Paramedics Respond to Aetna Entrapment
On December26, 2021, at 1932, New Castle County Paramedics and Christiana Fire Company were dispatched to assist Aetna Hose, Hook and LadderCompany foran MVAwith entrapment and multiple patients on East Chestnut Hill Road at GenderRoad. One patient was trapped for15 minutes in the wreckage while crews worked to extricate the person. One patient was transported by paramedics to Christiana Hospital in serious condition while a second patient was transported by Christiana Fire Company Ambulance in stable condition.

RolloverMVAon New Year’s Eve
On December31, 2021, at 2331, the Rehoboth Beach VolunteerFire Company and the Lewes Fire Department were dispatched fora rollover MVAon John J. Williams Highway. Upon arrival, a carwas found on its side just off the roadway. Firefighters from Rehoboth and Lewes stabilized the carand extricated the lone victim, who was transported to Beebe Hospital by Rehoboth Beach Fire Company Ambulance. Sussex County EMS was on scene assisting with patient care. - Submitted by Warren Jones

Fatal MVANorth of Laurel

On December9, 2021, the Laurel Fire Department, Blades VolunteerFire Company and Sussex County EMS were alerted foran MVAon Seaford Highway in front of the Mount Zion Church. Laurel EMS units were first on scene and encountered a serious, head-on crash, with multiple people trapped. Tower81 responded from Laurel with Captain Zac Lecates as officer. Upon arriving, Lecates requested an additional engine be sent to the scene bringing Seaford VolunteerFire Department, as well. Sussex County EMS also responded to the scene. Three victims were transported with one additional victim being assessed as a fatality.

Carinto Structure MVA
Firefighters responded to a vehicle into a structure on Dupont Highway. Crews removed the vehicle with the occupants still inside.
